Scaling
This couplet should be relatively heavy but still fast-paced. Just about all athletes can perform deadlifts and some version of a burpee. Reduce the loading so you can complete each set of deadlifts unbroken. If needed, reduce the number of burpees to a point that allows you to keep moving quickly and avoid excessive rest.

Unbroken dead’s. 1 pause of 2-5 seconds during round 3 or 4 after 6 burpees and a couple pauses before deadlifts in early rounds.

24 seconds faster than in 2012. Unbroken deads, took later rounds a bit more deliberately. Made up a lot of time on the burpees. Since the deads take so much out of the legs and back, I tried to focus on a ‘stricter’ burpee, using a lot more chest and arm to pop myself back up. Seemed to help. Rounds 2-4 were a bit slower, but was able to really sprint through on round 5.

I'm sorry but if you're going to showcase this workout you may as well carry out the movements correctly. You tell me what was wrong.
Yep. Maybe I'm wrong, but if I recall correctly, the movement standards for burpees detailed in the judges course are different than what was demonstrated here (half-ass burpees). I would have "no rep'd" every one of them. Let's just enforce standards. Still impressive though.
There are a lot of movements done differently in competition than in every day workouts. Honestly, it’s why I stopped competing. While competition burpee form is sound, there are too many other movements where going sloppy is rewarded despite the heightened risk of injury.
How did you do on the workout?

Nothing to rant about.
WORKOUT THEMES
A test originally put in place, if I remember correctly, because there were so many people to get through in a short amount of time. Squatting with a heavy weight, extra emphasis on the midline, and changing orientation with an emphasis on jumping/landing.
MAIN DECISON
Is the extra 30 seconds you could cut on this workout worth the discomfort it would cost?

In a hotel, heaviest weight is 2x50# DBs. Any good scaling ideas?
Try a static hold at the bottom of the deadlift with the two dumbbells. 30 seconds?
Double the DL reps.
