Stimulus and Strategy:
Today’s workout is a retest of a previous Open workout from 2017. If you have completed this before, look back at your score. In most cases, the barbell loading should not be the limiting factor. Instead, it should be performing these two movements while managing a high heart rate. Most should aim to complete this workout in less than 20 minutes. That being said, today could be a day to try the prescribed version even if you have to break up each set of thrusters. This builds confidence and allows you to establish a time for this benchmark.
Scaling:
Reduce the loading of the barbell to maintain unbroken reps for most of your sets.
To reduce the complexity of the thruster, use a pair of dumbbells or perform a front squat followed by a push press. For the double-unders, perform as many as you can in 30 seconds or perform single-unders.
In case of injury or limitation, perform a single-arm dumbbell thruster, a front squat for an overhead limitation, or a push press for a squat limitation. For the jump rope, get on any machine and accumulate 6/8 calories per round.

Coaching cues:
To speed up the cycle time on the thruster, think about pulling the barbell down from the overhead position. As soon as it hits your shoulders, move to the squat.

Did this as the meat workout of a DeLoad day. Did not want to slog through 10rds so I just chose 5 but stuck with 75lbs and SingleUnders (don't have dubs). 9 reps were tough but over before you could count or think about putting bar down. SingleUnders were a good not bad impact movement that I don't mind when the rope is adequate. Got HR up quickly with thrusters but grooved well for singles bounce.
Did this atterwalking 30 min BoxStepUps w/ pushups and rowing for 11 minutes in zone2. Rested for a quick 5 min lite Lift of power cleans @ 75lbs before to warmup.
Not sure how to program DeLoad days while following .com program. Knew that I had to DeLoad before the open and this week seemed right. Need to remember to DeLoad after open and not try and run with momentum of open. Lots of yoga this week.

Comments: very far from having double-unders, still even struggle with single-unders. Used the 1:3 rule for subbing them, can’t remember where I found that but I find it’s effective for me, and it allows me extra time to practice those single-unders throughout the workout. Thrusters were tough, after about 3 rounds they were broken up into 2-3 sets. Had to pause the timer at around 12 minutes because my bandaid covering a wound on my hand was coming off, came back and completed the last 8 minutes. Might’ve had a lower result had I not taken a pause.

stopped because both movements can be hard on my knees and hips BUT happy to report that everything felt great the following day which is huge for me - often in pain for at least 24 hours after double unders. Progress!

Really proud of this time though as I looked back and saw it took me 20:50 back in 2017 during The Open. Double Unders were a struggle for me back then and 95# had to be broken up. 8 years older almost and over 6mins faster, I’ll take it!
