Gavin

Lt. Col. Ryan Edward Gavin, 45, of Clayton, North Carolina, died by suicide on March 3, 2026. His family said his death was directly related to his military service.

Born in Kingston, New York, Gavin graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 2002 and was commissioned as an armor officer. He served 20 years, including two combat tours in Iraq, and earned the Bronze Star Medal twice. He retired from the North Carolina Army National Guard in 2022, then earned a master’s degree from North Carolina State University and worked as a customer sales director for Audemars Piguet.

Gavin began CrossFit in 2013 and trained at CrossFit Clayton for 13 years. Murph was his favorite workout.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna, and their three children, Marie, Edward, and Alexis. He is buried at West Point Cemetery.
