At the 2026 CrossFit Games in San Jose, California, BlackOhm partnered with CrossFit to provide real-time location and physiological monitoring capabilities in support of athlete safety and event operations. The 2026 Games brought together 60 elite individual athletes (30 men and 30 women) along with 20 teams. Individual competition extended across five days, from July 22 to 26, creating a demanding environment where athlete accountability, safety-team coordination, and rapid access to information were critical.
Throughout the competition, participating athletes wore Alpha devices to support physiological monitoring and GPS location tracking, while event staff used Sigma devices to facilitate communication and coordination in the event of an incident.
Centralized through BlackOhm’s Omega common operating picture platform, authorized medical and safety personnel received a live operational view of athlete locations and physical metrics. In addition to the reliance on radio traffic, visual observation, or manually reported information, the unified platform enabled designated safety teams to monitor real-time athlete conditions on a single interface.
“Athlete safety and operational readiness are paramount at the CrossFit Games,” said Wendy Guthrie, CrossFit’s Head of Safety. “At the 2026 Games, BlackOhm’s real-time monitoring gave our team a clearer, faster picture of what was happening during our off-site events. We’re grateful for their partnership, which allowed us to explore how technology can help us advance the protection of our athletes.”

Separately, the platform expanded fan engagement by allowing spectators around the world to track competitors’ GPS locations in real time. Operating at scale, the platform supported up to 1,500 simultaneous logins from users across 110 countries.
“The CrossFit Games bring together some of the most capable athletes in the world and place them in an incredibly demanding competitive environment,” said Chase Usher, Vice President at BlackOhm. “Our role was to provide the CrossFit safety team with greater visibility without interfering with the athlete experience. With 10,000 scans and up to 1,500 users simultaneously accessing the platform from 110 countries, this partnership demonstrated the ability of our technology to deliver real-time information at scale.”
BlackOhm originally developed its technology to support military training, personnel accountability, and operational risk reduction. The 2026 CrossFit Games demonstrated how those same capabilities translate into elite sports, where athletes operate under significant physical stress and event organizers must maintain awareness across multiple venues and rapidly changing activities.
“Supporting the CrossFit Games allowed us to demonstrate that technology proven in demanding military environments can also provide meaningful value in elite sports,” said Kyla Driver, BlackOhm Program Manager. “We are proud of the trust CrossFit placed in our team and look forward to building on this partnership to continue advancing athlete safety, event awareness, and global fan engagement.”

The collaboration provided an opportunity for both organizations to gather feedback from athletes, medical personnel, safety professionals, event operators, and platform users. These insights will inform future efforts to support athlete care, event coordination, and the spectator experience as BlackOhm and CrossFit prepare for the 2027 season.
