The Tabata interval is 20 seconds of work, followed by 10 seconds of rest for 8 intervals.

Post total reps to comments.

Stimulus and Strategy:
Today’s workout follows a classic Tabata structure. Move through all 8 intervals of a single movement before moving on to the next. Keep in mind, there is no additional rest between movements. Whether moving methodically or quickly, your goal is to keep working during the 20 seconds of work. Expect the sit-ups to tighten your hip flexors, so lift those legs a little higher than you want to on your first few box jumps. For the rows, push the pace and leave nothing on the floor.

Scaling:
Reduce the intervals for each movement. Instead of performing 8 intervals for each movement, consider 5 or 6.

To reduce the complexity of the AbMat sit-up, perform a foot-anchored sit-up. For the box jumps, reduce the height of the box as low as necessary to maintain the jumping stimulus.

In case of injury or limitation, perform your calories on any machine available. For the AbMat sit-ups, perform seated leg raises or single-leg raises. For the box jumps, consider box step-ups.

Intermediate option:
Same as Rx’d.

So, struggling with comments posting.


WOD's not happening today or mostly likely for at least the next few. Hoped it would just be back spasms that I could get sorted by this afternoon, but I definitely strained the lower back yesterday. I'll see what Doc has to say on Thursday. Plan right now is to just do recovery/mobility work and reassess by the weekend.

Started with damper @ 4-5 & could not budge past 5 cals per, last 3 bumped up to 8-9 & got 6-7. Not sure why I do better at higher resistance? Long legs? Poor form? Conditioned to ocean rowing? Some combo? Probably not energy efficient, but seems to be my default setting. Boggling.

That's awesome, Favo, especially the AbMat SU!


Is your stroke rate the same at 4-5 as it is at 8-9? Have you changed the display to measure power in not just watts but also the graphic representation of the stroke? If your overall power output and stroke rate are the same across the board then your cals should be the same. I'm thinking that because 8-9 is more resistance, that you are driving harder at the catch at that drag because your brain is telling you that you have to, and the end result is a higher power output and more cals. Tough for me to say without actually seeing you do it.

Oh that's a good point, thanks, Lincoln! I haven't compared it that way. I need to take a chunk of time that isn't part of a WOD & do a better evaluation to see if that's the case. What you're saying makes sense b/c I feel like it's partly a brain thing for sure causing me to instinctively drive harder @ higher resistance. Your Insight is much appreciated! Going to give it a closer look on Thursday with the above in mind!

Great job still getting in, especially with one arm rows! I would normally be right there with you and try to get some of the work in but I don't mess around with pushing through even minor back injuries after herniating a disc years ago.
