Stimulus and Strategy:
Today is a heavy day. Keep in mind, heavy is relative to each athlete's capacity and experience. Look back at your previous attempt to help navigate today’s workout. As long as you are working to your limits, you will benefit from this effort. Experienced athletes should build to a heavy set of 2 and plan to go as heavy as possible across all sets. Newer athletes should start light, focus on mechanics, and slowly add weight as they are comfortable.
Scaling:
To adjust the complexity of the lift, consider performing goblet squats with a dumbbell or kettlebell.
In case of an injury or limitation, consider squatting with a single dumbbell or kettlebell. You can also lunge with a load or perform an unloaded air squat.
Intermediate option:
Same as Rx’d.
Beginner option:
Same as Rx’d.
Coaching cues:
Focus on driving your chest up and back into the bar on the lifting phase. This will help to keep your torso upright and reduce issues of the hips raising too quickly.

Did bottom-to-bottom high bar back squats, taking the bar/bumpers off a 26” riser:
135-155-175-195-205-215-225-235-225lbs
Last 4 sets were really tough and grindy.
Dad did 8 sets of 5 med ball goblet squats to a 12” butt target. (Good hip/ankle mobility runs in the family I guess!)
Did 1 long easy round of SLIPS as a warmup 20+min mostly rest (teaching Dad)

No rack in the garage gym & limited access to plates today; so did landmine hack squats to 85, then turned it into old school "leg day" with goblet landmine, Bulgarian split squats, glute raises & reverse lunges off a stack of plates with a 45# barbell in back rack.
Lots of big numbers today, you back squatting beasts! Excellent work!💪
Great job and great improv with what you have at hand!

And you were smart for listening (to your back and the kayaks), good work!
Sets of 5 always seem just right, not too much not to little. Good work. Hope you had fun on the yaks
Kayaking is tough to resist! Nice job on the back squats AND listening to the back!

Day 11: did a fitness test with stretching and mobility work after. Was my scheduled day but it didn’t strictly fit into my plan. I decided at the last minute to execute and just get it done. Still maxed it out but just barely. I’ll see later if it was a sound choice or not, but so far ok.
How're the knees responding to the treatment? Assume you're doing the Navy test?
You are correct about the test, Jim. I rowed again for the cardio portion. The knees are still sore from the treatment but improving as expected - not at the rate I would like of course. The row was a decent test of where my left shoulder is at - no pain at that angle, depth and intensity so some positive stuff there.
A row for the cardio portion seems appropriate for these in a nautical service! Back in my day, I maxed out the AF test every year except my last test; I’d just run my first and only marathon, and had no speed in my legs.
Great job maxing out the test!
Jim, that’s understandable the legs had no speed left in them after that marathon. I used to max out the run when it didn’t hurt to run.
Thanks CN!
Glad to see you're having some improvement & well done on your fitness test! Hope you're back to reasonably pain free very soon!

That’s damn awesome! 405 is bad ass.
Excellent, Dave! 405 is crazy! Great work!
Great job 👍🏼
