Workout of the Day

66

For 15 minutes:
Toes-to-bar ladder + burpees

For the ladder pattern, perform one toes-to-bar the first minute, followed by max reps burpees. Perform two toes-to-bars the second minute + max reps burpees. Perform three toes-to-bars the third minute + max reps burpees, continuing for 15 minutes or until failure to complete the toes-to-bars within the minute.

Post total number of burpees to comments.


Scaling:
This couplet will tax your midline. Work on quick transitions and challenge yourself to get as far as possible. Every rep counts. Intermediate athletes can perform this workout as written. If you do not yet have toes-to-bars, modify to hanging knee raises or sit-ups.

Beginner Option:
For 10 minutes:

10-8-8-7-7-6-5-5-5-5-3-3-1-0 burpees=73

Unbroken TTB through 12’s, struggled through 13, then got through 11/14. Only worked for 30 seconds out of each minute until I got to the second set of 5’s, where burpees slowed significantly due to muscular fatigue; then each round was only a little over 30 seconds until grip and abs gave up the ghost after the 12’s.

Completed 3/11. Just wanted to get my heart rate up.


called it after the 9 T2B as they took me a hair over the minute to complete. Maybe in the 60’s for burpees? Tried counting each round separately which was impossible to remember post workout.

Completed TTB through 9 with no burpees that minute, failed to get 10. Switched to hanging knee raises for 11-15 and kept doing burpees.

59 burpees for score, 87 overall.


Just couldn't cycle either movement that fast, and TTB definitely need more work. Kinda reserved too on account of not being sure how my left elbow was going to handle it.

As rx’d, 94 burpees.


Burpees each minute: 14-13-12-11-8-8-7-5-6-4-2-2-2-0-X.  Got through the 14th minute (but no burpees), and got 10 of 15 T2B in the 15th minute.  The original goal (in my head) was total burpees, but as I kept getting through the T2B, somewhere along the line the goal may have shifted (again, in my head) to seeing how far I could get in the toes-to-bar ladder.  Had I kept the goal as total burpees, I think I could have strategized my way to >100.  This was fine though.  It’s a strange WOD indeed where the burpees feel “better” than the other movement, but that was the case (especially) in later rounds today.  Started doing singles on the T2B in minute 5, I think.  Just could not string them together effectively by that point.

Champions Club Scaling Notes


RANT

Not really sure the intention of this one. Usually when I don't like a workout format it comes with me admitting that a big reason for that is because it's out of my fitness level. I can live with that. This one seems a little more complicated than it needs to be. From counting reps, to movement quality, to overall purpose, I would probably need to think this one through to find some of the bigger picture workout themes.


WORKOUT THEMES

Gymnastics and gymnastics. Jumping with big ROM, changing orientation, pulling from the hips, skill, global flexion/extension


SHORT MEDIUM LONG


LIGHT

MEDIUM


HEAVY


STRENGTH SCALE

AMRAP in 15 minutes of:

5 strict toes to bar

10 push-ups


COORDINATION SCALE

AMRAP in 15 minutes of:

10 burpees

20 kips


STAMINA SCALE

7 rounds of:

1:00 toes to bar

1:00 burpees


MY STUFF

Strict toes to bar, then kipping toes to bar, then big modified ROM kipping toes to bar coupled with push-ups. Lost count.

Yeah so I think you could have 2 possible goals here. The first is alluded to in the "post total number of burpees to comments". So score it on that. The other goal could be - how long can I continue completing the required number of T2B (i.e., can I make it the full 15 min), regardless of how many burpees I get done? It's definitely more of a strategic WOD vs. a workout; I feel like we might see something like this in the Games format, where you're scored on burpees, but getting through the full 15 min allows a second part of the workout to open up.


Just the EMOM of T2B works out to 120, so I won't be getting that far. I'll probably score it on burpees and see how long I can last with a full T2B.
