2019: A Year of CrossFit Victories

In 2019, CrossFit, Inc. won decisive victories in its ongoing battle to expose scientific misconduct and corruption, defend its trainers and affiliates, and keep fitness legal.

Jan. 9, 2019: NYT and BMJ report on ILSI influence

With information first discovered by CrossFit, The New York Times and BMJ expose the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) as a front for the food and beverage industry.

Jan. 27, 2019: Morreim report published on CrossFit.com

CrossFit publishes Dr. E. Haavi Morreim’s scathing report detailing NSCA scientific misconduct.

February 2019: CrossFit lobbies for affiliates in Washington and New Jersey

CrossFit works with local affiliates and state legislators to push back against onerous restrictions on its affiliates.

March 20, 2019: Richard Beddie apologizes

Richard Beddie, Chief Executive of Exercise NZ, issued a formal apology to CrossFit and presented an official retraction of false statements made in 2014.

April 15, 2019: Tennessee governor signs HB 1138

CrossFit’s extensive lobbying on behalf of affiliates pays off as HB 1138 becomes law, exempting 150+ Tennessee CrossFit affiliates from unjust taxation.

May 2, 2019: CrossFit condemns Reagan-Udall Foundation for nondisclosure

CrossFit publicly condemns the FDA’s Reagan-Udall Foundation at its annual meeting for not abiding by transparency requirements.

May 17, 2019: CrossFit requests retraction of OJSM paper

CrossFit requests retraction of erroneous and misleading paper on “likelihood of injury” in CrossFit training, published in the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine. The paper continues to be cited in mainstream media.

June 11, 2019: LD 364 becomes law in Maine

CrossFit successfully lobbies in support of LD 364 in Maine, affirming an individual’s right to access health care outside the medical establishment and protecting the right of CrossFit affiliates to share nutrition information with their clients.

June 20, 2019: CrossFit files renewed motion for terminating sanctions

CrossFit, Inc. files a renewed motion for terminating sanctions against the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in the Southern District Court of California, putting the NSCA’s systemic corruption on full display.

Aug. 6, 2019: CrossFit supports Heather Del Castillo in free speech case

CrossFit pledges continued support for CrossFit trainer Heather Del Castillo in planned appeal of decision in case regarding restricted nutritional speech in Florida.

Sept. 27, 2019: Members of Congress call for HHS COI investigation

In partnership with CrossFit, members of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform call for the Inspector General of HHS’s investigation into conflicts of interest at the CDC and NIH.

Oct. 10, 2019: CrossFit catches ACSM in Exercise is Medicine cover-up

CrossFit catches ACSM attempting to cover up Coca-Cola’s founding role in the Exercise is Medicine referral scheme.

Oct. 23, 2019: CrossFit wins suit against HHS regarding FOIAs

CrossFit successfully wins its suit against HHS, forcing the disclosure of statements confirming conflicts of interest facilitated by the CDC Foundation.

Dec. 4, 2019: Judge orders terminating sanctions against the NSCA

In the case of CrossFit, Inc. v. NSCA, the court terminates the case in CrossFit’s favor, ordering the NSCA to pay nearly US$4 million as a sanction and imposing numerous issue sanctions that conclude the NSCA’s corrupt practices harmed CrossFit in the military, U.S., and international communities.
