For time:
100 burpee pull-ups

Jump to a pull-up bar 1 foot above your reach.

Stimulus and Strategy:
Today’s workout is a benchmark workout called G.I. Jane. If you have completed this workout before, look back at your previous score to help you navigate today’s effort. This workout is all about mental fortitude and your ability to endure the monotony of the task in front of you. There is nothing fancy here — just “fall” to the floor, get up, and get your chin over the pull-up bar. Your legs are your best friend when it comes to these pull-ups. Use them to jump your chin up over the bar. Choose a height for your pull-up bar that allows you to keep moving. When in doubt, lower the pull-up bar and go faster.

Scaling:
Reduce the reps and/or the height of the pull-up bar.

To reduce the complexity of the burpee, consider performing an up-down. For the pull-up portion of the movement, reduce the height of the pull-up bar to allow yourself the opportunity to jump your chin over the bar.

In case of injury or limitation, perform burpees or up-downs with a jump to touch the pull-up bar (instead of performing the pull-up).

Intermediate option:
For time:
70 burpee pull-ups

Jump to a pull-up bar 6 inches above your reach.

Beginner option:
For time:
50 burpee pull-ups

Jump to a pull-up bar at the middle of your forearms when your arms are extended overhead.

Coaching cues:
Draw a line on the floor directly underneath the pull-up bar. On each burpee, place your hands on this line and focus on jumping your feet to your hands. This will position you in the best spot to jump to your bar.

**I payed attention to the clock more than usual to pace this:

2 sets of 10 on the 1:00

3 sets of 10 on the 1:05

2 sets of 10 on the 1:10

2 sets of 10 on the 1:15

Then, Final set of 10


Having this little bit of rest after each set of 10 helped me to keep Burpee Pull-ups faster and stay in the Game mentally.

First time doing trap bar dead’s. They seemed easier than barbell dead’s; certainly the shorter ROM contributed to that ease. Best of all…no back blowout! I have a long history of injury while traveling due to missing some vital warmup equipment from home and just being a little out of sorts. And generally pushing too hard to quickly. Now if I can be smart for the rest of the week…

G.I. Jane - For time:

100 burpee pull-ups

Time = 17:53 


Strategy:

Went in with minimal warm-up—just one rep to feel it out. I focused on consistent pacing from the start, performing sets of 5 reps with short (~10 sec) breaks between. Every 25 reps, I took a longer ~30-second break to sip water, catch my breath, and let my muscles reset before pushing on. Before the final 10 reps, I took one last ~20-second pause to mentally lock in and finish strong with a full set.


Reflections:

This pacing strategy worked perfectly. It was more of a mental grind than a physical one, though my hands started to blister toward the end. Felt better than expected considering yesterday’s pull-up volume. Well-fueled and hydrated going in. Next time, I’ll aim for sets of 6 reps and try to close with a stronger final push of 10–15 reps. Solid day overall.

Intermediate athlete/scale - pull up bar is a pipe mounted to crossbeams in my basement. Not enough head clearance for kipping pull-ups, so I partitioned this into 10 sets of 10 Burpee's/Strict toe assisted pull-ups. 17:28 shaved off a minute 36 seconds from 2021.

Had to change it up this morning due to kids getting up early:


EMOM 1 push-up & 1 alternating V-Up each leg. Did “death by” format and added a rep each minute. Got through the 11th minute and 20 reps into 12th minute before I ran out of time/gas.

Pyramid Pull-ups to 8

.61 mile run (1 lap)

100m Inchworm (+pushup second half)

50 Shoulder press (75#)

~28:00 for the reps

Then 3x Max time forearm plank (1:10/1:15/1:20)


Shoulders were the limiting factor in the planks - cooked after the inchworms and SP. Left achilles is a wee bit tender from 250604 so it probably worked out a little in my favor not jumping at today's WOD volume. Will look to make up G.I. Jane at a later date.

guys, the ultimate hack for never ripping any skin anymore is to wear either garding or mechanics gloves to train - I've been using mechanics gloves for a while now but only on days when we do more than 50 Pullups or Bar Muscleups and it works like a charm! (Kali Muscle posted a video in which he did 20 unbroken strict Muscleups in gardening gloves about 10 years ago - that's where I got it from originally)


this felt like a huge improvement, have to closely check my notes tomorrow for the compare to but I think it was at least 16min last time, I only did chin over bar this time and not chest to bar.


Greg Amundson continues to be the greatest CrossFit inspiration!!

edit: bar was just slightly above reach - same as last time but I'm not quite sure whether it's 1 foot
