Ancel Keys' Cholesterol Con, Part 2

11

Prof. Timothy Noakes highlights 70 events he claims were critical in advancing the global acceptance of Ancel Keys’ diet-heart and lipid hypotheses. Noakes’ timeline details the major studies, scandals, and recovered trial results that ultimately disproved Keys’ hypotheses, which nevertheless continue to influence global eating habits and metabolic health.

well written and continues to be an ongoing problem with science when things get politicized and/or well financed by agenda seeking entities. Models are the new scam as these can be tweaked to show whatever bias people want to show. Scientific method has truly been corrupted by politicians and corporations alike. Be careful what you hang your hat on, as the writers bias is always present and not always accounted for. Thanks for your writings.

Hello Prof,

You have an extraordinary skill at taking complex matters and making them interesting and readable. I have listened to your audio book "Real Food On Trial" a couple of times while walking, it is the perfect David and Goliath tale for today. That trial highlighted and exposed to the world all your valuable knowledge, your ethics and integrity and why you articulate the truth without being influenced or by having another agenda. At the same time, it clearly demonstrated the lack of those qualities in all of those who forced you to trial.

Your book, should become a text book for anyone studying ethics or medicine and be absolute required reading if you are studying nutrition or want to become a dietician. However, I know that vested interests would make that impossible, but I believe a few who are smart enough, will choose to read outside their curriculum.

All that to simply say, extraordinary work, you systematically exposed Ancel Keys and his unproven hypothesis while causing John Yudkin to smile all over in his grave. I wholeheartedly agree with you that the only person to look after me, is, a well read and self educated me.

Apart from you, my other wonderful teachers include, Nina Teicholz, Zoe Harcombe, Robert Lustig, Gary Taubes, John Yudkin, David Gillespie, to name a few, I think you get the picture.

I am so grateful that I can soak up your combined knowledge and keep my own health on track. It has been over 4 years now, since I dropped from 103kg (obese) to 81kg (normal). Also, I have kept it off, by taking my daily MEDS (Meat Eggs Dairy Seafood) with some fruit and veg.

A simple rule is, if it has a label, comes in a cardboard box, jar, tin, or fancy packet with pictures on it, then eating it will make me fat, attack my immune system and expose me to any little WuFlu that might be lurking around.

This, I have learnt from all my teachers, and also that there is already a vaccine: it is called "Real Food".

Thank you Tim, stay focussed, you are a Global Treasure.

With great respect!

Paul

Wow! Thanks so much for your kind words and carefully considered comments, Paul. They are very much appreciated. I hope you enjoy the continuation of this series as it progresses. I have really enjoyed writing all the columns as I have learned so much that is deliberately hidden and needs to be dug out to be exposed.

It's special to be able to present these truths to the CrossFit community and hopefully through that community to an even wider audience.

Special thanks to Greg Glassman and Karen Thomson who have made it possible by providing this platform to present so much detail - more than would ever be possible in the conventionally published medical literature.

Promise to stay focused!

Best wishes, Tim.

The big scam documented in brilliant detail - with the outlook of more to come. Similar to the previous comments, I applaud your effort on putting this together. I hope the attention to this does not suffer in the current COVID-noise and am looking forward the upcoming columns.

Thank you!

Thanks Jobst. I think our goal with CrossFit Health is to present the evidence to as wide an audience as is possible. Strangely I also think that COVID-19 will have a lasting effect on how the general public see medicine as it is practised today. The fact is that we are not being told the whole truth about the virus; "medicine" has not been able to protect us; clearly metabolic ill-health caused by being told to eat the wrong foods is a sentinel driver of the epidemic; and there is the feeling that there's something murky going on in the background etc.

If COVID-19 leaves us with one lesson, it is that Big Medicine cannot protect us from the Big Virus. We, each of us, really are on our own. And our individual survival depends on staying metabolically healthy by not eating the food that Keys' acolytes want us to eat; and to stay physically strong (with CrossFit - perhaps).

I share your sentiment on the COVID-19 situation. I mentioned it as I sensed that there is another hiding of truth (maybe even another "Con") as you mention. The authority of medicine (along with medical research and science) gets somewhat questioned by the actions of politics and media who have their own agenda.

I appreciate your work with CrossFit Health as a contribution to give people the information to make their own decision - unbiased by politics or media, but rather based on facts. Unveiling the Cholesterol Con so undeniably (especially on such detail) helps a lot creating a nutritional foundation of the metabolic health we need to be ready for anything, be it COVID-19 - or whatever else is coming up.

I am looking forward to your webinar with Coach Glassman tomorrow.

I thought this letter (on behalf of an art gallery in California) makes a perfect argument for why CrossFit affiliates should be allowed to open anywhere and everywhere.

More than any other type of gym, CrossFit "boxes" are uniquely competent to handle social distancing constraints.

Very well done. I've been aware of this for a long time. What escapes me is that if I kill someone I am punished. Hitler and Stalin and Mao are considered mass murderers for killing millions of people, yet here we have a conspiracy of scientific, drug maker, medical and corporate despots who are directly responsible for the deaths of BILLIONS of people and an obesity and type 2 diabetes pandemic that will dwarf this recent so called pandemic and absolutely NOTHING happens to them. How can this be? How is it they are never held accountable ? Personally I think they should be brought before the Hauge and tried for crimes against humanity

Incredible effort to put this together. Well done! It's a useful resource for anyone wanting a comprehensive primer on how Ancel Keys deluded the medical community. Most striking to me is the buried studies (MCE, SDHS) that were later recovered. Somehow, these big money studies either failed to be published or landed in obscure journals (pre-internet and therefore much harder to find). This is really a smoking gun to me that there was an organized attempt to keep the truth away from the public.

My favorite entry in your list has to be the 1984 National Consensus Development Meeting. They couldn’t have picked a more appropriate year. Is “consensus science” a dirty word outside of CrossFit and the medical skeptics community? Maybe it has been replaced with terms like “standard of care” or “evidence-based”, but it seems to be alive and well.

In your 1993 entry, I like your choice of words that Walter Willett “invented” the Mediterranean Diet. He didn’t discover it. He invented it by tossing together his own personal biases and coating them in a drizzle of olive oil.

Thanks so much Tyler.

I became more interested in this topic when I was challenged to debate Professor Jacques Rossouw at the hubristically named University of Cape Town Faculty of Health Sciences Centenary Debate in December 2012. A former South African who had emigrated to the USA, Rossouw had been one of the key drivers of the Woman's Health Initiative (WHI) and had become one of the happy band of Ancel Keys' acolytes already for more than 20 years. In the week before the debate, Dr Andreas Eenfeldt of DietDoctor.com shared with me the evidence in the published WHI study that Rossouw and his bosses at the National Institutes of Health, had attempted to bury. I subsequently wrote that evidence up in the South African Medical Journal http://www.samj.org.za/index.php/samj/article/view/7343/5505

The points we raised have never been properly contested or corrected.

I suspect that that exposure was very poorly received in some circles and was one of the factors that drove my industry-directed trial before the Health Professions Council of South Africa between June 2015 and June 2018 on what was clearly a malicious prosecution. So I learned that showing that the WHI disproved the Diet-Heart hypothesis and that Rossouw and the NIH had hidden that conclusion was not the way to improve my standing in the scientific community.

Nor I suspect did the publication of my presentation at the Centenary Debate https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/16070658.2015.11734522 endear me to those same forces.

During my HPCSA trial I spent more time looking at the science which supposedly supports Keys' Diet-Heart hypothesis. Slowly the full extent of the Con became increasingly obvious and I presented what I (and my 3 expert witnesses - Caryn Zinn, Zoe Harcombe and Nina Teicholz) knew then at the trial as shown in a series of 80-odd videos filmed during our testimony at the trial:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPda1Yn6bpO6DG_b5_wAVXf100niaaJDX

All would have rested there if I had not been invited to speak at the Crossfit Games Health Conference in 2017 and then invited to contribute to the CrossFit Health columns. I originally did not plan to re-visit this material but thought that I would like to study the history of the discovery and description of insulin resistance by Gerald Reaven MD. By some chance this ultimately led me to this series on the Ancel Keys Cholesterol Con.

Obviously I could never have written this material without the seminal works of Gary Taubes and Nina Teicholz who are the Giants on whose shoulders we all stand. Their works provided the ground map of the 70 key events that needed to be discussed and the historical sequence in which they happened. All I have done is add my interpretation of those events and included the newer ones that have happened since their books were published.

What these columns has allowed me to do is to write the material in as much detail as I thought appropriate without any constraints imposed by a publishable book. I have tried to present these facts in a tight collection which shows just how negligent and corrupted has been the "science" supposedly supporting the diet-heart hypothesis, which it clearly does not.

But perhaps the greatest inspiration for writing these columns is to know that they are accessible to anyone who has access to the internet.

Now there really is no excuse for medical colleagues, medical and dietetics students not to know the real truth behind the Ancel Keys Cholesterol Con that has led to the modern pandemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Please help spread the word to any and all who may benefit from this information.

Macro view template analysis

Workout Structure:

First day was followed “For Time” template. This exercise was a couplet element that is combined of a high skill gymnastic movement and one explosive power movement. The main purpose in this WOD was to implement new skills in the form of the high-intensity exercise. Muscular endurance played a

major role in this WOD. Moreover, the aerobic system was dominant energy pathway in this program. However, the lactic acid system was the dominant energy pathway in the rope climbs.

Second day was followed “For Time” template. This exercise was a single modality that include of high volume rowing from metabolic conditioning form. The main purpose in this WOD was on improving the cardiorespiratory endurance. Moreover, the aerobic system was dominant energy pathway in this program.

Third day was followed “AMRAP” template. This exercise used of high skill gymnastic movements. Muscular endurance, strength, flexibility and balance played a major role in this WOD. Moreover, the aerobic system was dominant energy pathway in this program.

Conclusion

As can be seen, 2 energy pathways (aerobic and lactic acid) were challenged in this cycle. Moreover, the muscular endurance, cardiorespiratory, muscular endurance, strength, flexibility and balance played a major role in this circle of programming. Also, power is latent in the nature of these programs.

As a final note, “For Time” and “AMRAP” templates were used for programming in this cycle.

Enjoy your rest day and recover your physical and mental dimensions

You can see it on her face. She's giving it everything she's got. And the results follow. 140 lbs lost and diabetes under control is an outcome that this exceptional, but also reproducible. If only more people tried CrossFit and gave it the effort Ellen does!
