2. Certification and Validity
Candidates who meet the established eligibility requirement, complete the full Level 4 process, and successfully pass the Level 4 Evaluation earn the Certified CrossFit Level 4 Coach (CF-L4) credential. The CF-L4 credential is valid for three years from the date of issue.
3. Pricing Details
Standard registration is $1,500 USD, with a $500 retest fee. Final pricing is confirmed at checkout and may vary depending on applicable taxes and location. CrossFit reserves the right to update pricing at any time.
To be eligible for the retest fee, candidates must have failed the current version of the Level 4. Candidates who failed the previous in-person version are not eligible for the retest price.
4. Completion Timeline
Candidates have six months from the date of registration to complete the Level 4 process and submit their first evaluation video. If a candidate does not pass the Level 4 evaluation, they have 12 months from the date of registration to retest and pass, for up to two retest attempts. No extensions will be granted.
5. Recertification Requirements
Maintaining the CF-L4 credential requires completing the full recertification application process before the three-year recertification interval expires. The recertification application can be accessed no sooner than six months prior to the expiration date, and is not complete until payment is made and the certificant receives an email confirmation.
To recertify, certificants must abide by the CrossFit Standards of Professional Practice, maintain a current CPR/AED certificate, complete 300 coaching hours, and earn 50 CEUs through continuing education within their three-year recertification interval.
6. Language Availability
Candidates may record class videos in the language of their choice. One-on-one assessment sessions are currently offered in English, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The online Level 4 Coaches Prep is currently offered in English only.
7. Format and Attendance
The Level 4 is completed entirely online, so no travel or in-person attendance is required. Candidates should plan to dedicate two to three hours per week over four to six weeks to complete the process.
Preparation for the Course
Confirm Your Eligibility
Before registering, confirm that you have a current CF-L3 credential and current CPR/AED training completed within the last two years. Several years of group coaching experience is strongly recommended.
Film Yourself Coaching
The process is built around detailed video reviews and assessment of your coaching. Practice filming classes now so you can get comfortable reviewing your coaching on video. As you practice filming, ensure you are prepared to meet video requirements for classes such as clear audio, and a camera/class setup that keeps class participants in frame at all times for coaching and movement assessment.
Protect Your Weekly Time
Plan to dedicate two to three hours per week over a four to six week period for the Level 4 process. Blocking that time early can help you stay on track through the virtual process.

Your Questions, Answered
You may register for the Level 4 as long as you have a current CF-L3 at the time of registration. If your CF-L3 expires during the Level 4 process and you pass the Level 4 evaluation, you will be awarded a CF-L4. However, if you do not pass the evaluation, you must have a current CF-L3 in order to register for the retest. Please review the CF-L3 recertification and late recertification requirements outlined in the CCFT Candidate Handbook.
There is no requirement for coaching hours in order to register for the evaluation.
Candidates must be 18 years or older, possess an active Certified CrossFit Level 3 Trainer (CF-L3) credential, and submit proof of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training completed within the last two years.
Holding the Certified CrossFit Trainer (CCFT) credential without the CrossFit Level 3 Trainer (CF-L3) designation does not meet the eligibility requirement. The CF-L3 credential is required.
To receive the CF-L3 designation, you must meet the education requirement for that credential. This includes earning the CrossFit Level 1 Certificate (CF-L1) and the CrossFit Level 2 Certificate (CF-L2).
