Neutral Spine in the Air Squat

Often, athletes may only be able to achieve depth at the expense of maintaining a neutral spine, as seen in this sequence with CFHQ Flowmaster Matt Lodin (CF-L4). Lodin corrects the athlete by bringing him up to just below parallel, then refining other primary points of performance. Over time, this same tactic should be used to get the athlete to squat even lower while maintaining a neutral spine. Working to develop this capacity will allow the base skill of the air squat to influence the success of other, more complex movement demands, such as receiving a clean.

Filmed at a CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Course held at Autumo CrossFit on Nov. 23, 2019.

W/ Quarantine going on these posts have been even better than normal. It’s a chance to get real coaching while at home and applying what is being taught to others. Quality self reflection going on. Thank you

Thank you for posting this, I've had on-going struggles with squatting and lower back pain but found this video very insightful. For reference, I'm 6'4" and after watching this I'm confident I'm squatting too low but I've got a medicine ball and I'm excited to try out this solve!
