The Cardinal Sins of Skewed Research, Part 4: Bait and Switch

2

Drs. Mary Dan and Michael Eades continue their series on the cardinal sins of scientific research, reviewing the bait-and-switch methods researchers often employ to earn or redirect attention. The Latin dictum falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus (false in one thing, false in everything) sums up this section. In order for a hypothesis to be right and become a theory you can't have one study that proves it doesn't work. It is not a matter of finding a possibility that it could be true. It is about knowing it can't be false. There is this sens of it dosesn't matter if a lot of studies can't be reproduced, or don't show the correlation we will just keep going until we prove what we want (especially if it sells our product). That is not science.

Fight Gone Bad.

Did 20 reps per set for each round since the transition times between sets at messes with the time. Seemed a reasonable way to do it and each took about a minute anyway, more or less. Rows were 20 cal, 15 cal, 20 cal. Total was 295.
