At his heaviest, Peter Burns had to weigh himself at a local pet shop because they had a scale that could register more than 300 lb.
Burns says his self-confidence was nearly nonexistent at 385 lb. He avoided being photographed and was unable to play with his kids due to his size. When he realized his unhealthy lifestyle was negatively affecting his family, Burns decided to make a change.
“Just over two years ago, I joined CrossFit Cú Chulainn,” he says.
Martin Hickey, who owns the affiliate in Athlone, Ireland, says he started slowly with Burns, offering him little bits of information in hopes of reeling him in. It worked.
At the time of filming, Burns had lost just more than 100 lb.
“I still have a long way to go,” he says, “but I know I’ll get there.”

I cannot congratulate you enough. It is a huge hurdle for seasoned athletes to cross the threshold of a crossfit box. I know what courage it took. With that type of attitude you will make it. Is is so important today to set a good example for our family. The battle against fake science and the sugar and drug industry is uphill but with people like you we are winning
