How Universities Cover Up Scientific Fraud

“When someone blows the whistle, universities have an opportunity during the initial inquiry to catch and kill the accusations. If universities open an investigation, they must notify relevant federal agencies and share their later findings, but if they decide not to investigate, the case closes. Closing cases without full investigations is an effective way to prevent government involvement and to avoid having to return fraudulently obtained taxpayer money.”
