Frosty, Before CrossFit: Undertrained and overfed. No full extension of his arms and totally lacking in decent footwork.
Frosty, After CrossFit: Strong and buff, complete with a six-pack and what Mark Rippetoe would call "chesticles" . . . (Thanks to John Tuitele of CrossFit Strong Medicine for the giant Frosty!)
2008 ends today. The CrossFit community has seen phenomenal change in 365 days, growing by almost 600 affiliates. What are your hopes and dreams for CrossFit for the coming year? For your affiliate?
If you're going to dream, dream big. Like Kim Phan (co-owner of CrossFit Emerald Coast) when she decided, at a total height of 58 inches, to box jump 38.5 inches: Video.

What's the number one tip you can give an affiliate as they build their new box? Or, what do you wish that somebody had told you?
CrossFit Fury builds out their box: Video. (Two things: Turn down your speakers if you don't like it rough, and there's just something beautiful about the opening muscle-ups.)

Stuck at home alone on a snowday? You can always do Blizzard Burpees, like Andy O'Rourke of Steel City CrossFit.
Ever feel like you're alone as an affiliate owner? Well, you're not. There's a world of info available to you through the other CrossFit affiliates -- as well as a lot of help. Ask questions or exchange your best (and worst?) business practices here or in the Affiliate Forum on the Message Boards. When one shares, two or more learn. (Because we know there are a lot of you reading and just not commenting. Maybe you should speak up?)
On that topic, Josh Bunch of CrossFit Practice offers "Affiliates Unite": The first in a series of essays written by affiliates for affiliates, here on (where else?) the Affiliate Blog . . .

The CrossFit North Queensland crew decided to celebrate Christmas by trying a new sport at their party: outrigging. Also, there's much to celebrate in the new year for CFNQ as they move on up into a new box. Congrats!
When you move into a bigger space, you need more equipment. Someone recently said on the Affiliate Board: "Buy nice bars, skimp on everything else - If you are running a good CrossFit program, you will destroy cheap bars quickly." True? Untrue? Or, it's bit more complicated than that . . .

Sometimes we see things that surprise us, like CrossFit on a horse by Debbie O'Rourke of Steel City CrossFit.
You know what else surprises us? We're almost at 1,000 CrossFit affiliates! As of today, there are 866 active affiliates, with others still in the pipeline. If we reach 1,000 active affiliates by Dec 31st of this year, we're going to celebrate by refunding the fee of Affiliate #1,000. So, if you need to finish your process, or you're just about to start, good luck and get your paperwork completed. It could be you.

On a lighter topic, we're just outside of the 12 Days of Christmas, and we've got ZERO affiliate Christmas-themed photos. No squats with department store Santas, no reindeer thrusters, no Christmas gnome swings. Hard to tell it's a CrossFit Christmas from here!
