Kelly Brown of CrossFit Agoge.
John and Kelly Brown describe their gym in ~100 words:
"Muscles burning, lungs on fire. The sound of shoe rubber is being drowned out by the grunts and groans of exertion. The building may be made out of bricks and concrete, but it is held up by power of the people inside. Our gym is Spartan. The only mirror is in the bathroom shared by a hair and nail salon, and yet I can see my reflection everywhere in the flaming mad eyes of the pipe hitters of Crossfit Agoge. The building used to be a meat packing plant; some would say it is again. And yet we move, drive, force out one last rep as the snow outside covers the houses of the comfortable masses that refuse to follow us down this path to excellence. This is Crossfit… Agoge style."

Diablos

After battling with a "desk job" induced back injury for more than 10 months, Jeremy Jones of Diablo CrossFit won his first Mixed Martial Arts match in over a year at the International Shootfighting Championships at Six Flags "Discovery Kingdom" in Vallejo California.
"After going from MD to Physical therapist to Chiropractor, and avoiding using my back all together (with little success), I decided that healthy dose of my old CrossFit ways with some extra Deadlifts was the prescription I needed. Without deadlifting much more than bodyweight for at least 9 months and only doing CrossFit, I was able to pull 355 for sets of two (with a previous single rep PR of 370) in late August, and could have probably done more. I didn't start fighting again until early September, and thankfully the CF had kept my conditioning at a level that allowed me to focus on my fight skills and not get burned out.
I owe this one to CrossFit."

Richard from CrossFit Alexandria sent this out to his workout buddies after getting a 9:42 on GI Jane...
"A couple quick tips and thoughts re: G.I. Jane for you guys to consider before rocking it.
(1) If you aim for 10/minute, you should have no problem going sub-10. I was doing 10 roughly every 45-50 seconds with a quick 10 sec rest b/w sets.
(2) The mixed grip helped immensely. Amundson knows what he's doing (obviously). I tried one set of 10 with regular pull up grip and it was a lot more difficult.
(3) Even with the mixed grip my feet kept wanting to kick out in front a lot. I'm not sure how to control it, but if you can devise a way, I think that will help a lot with the pullups. I think I wasted a decent amount of energy trying to not to kick out so far.
(4) I just went back and watched the Amundson GI Jane Video and I'm convinced he can shave at least a minute off his 10:17 time, if not go sub-9. He took one giant break at the midway point to de-shirt, chug water, and chalk his hands. Then he did 10 sets of 5 reps to finish, rather than 5 sets of 10. I'm pretty sure he can do without the huge break and gut out that last 50 a lot faster.
I have complete confidence that you and Casey can go lower than that 9:42 I posted this morning. Good luck. I want to try it next on the 8' bar. Also, we should up it to 200 reps and call it "G.I. Joe." None of this girl stuff".

It's All Fun and Games Until Someone Has to Wear a Dress in Public

In case you had not heard, two members of Again Faster, Jon Gilson and Sam Keough, have been going head to head (via the internet) with two members from CrossFit Fredericton, Anthony Bainbridge and Jodi Arbeau.
All 4 have been participating in the WOD from HQ with minor modifications. At the end of 31 days, the team with the most "wins" will be declared WINNER!
And for the loser...?
Jon, Jodi, and Anthony will all be in Toronto for the Certification in October. The losing team's male will be wearing a dress during one of the workouts!... (Sorry folks this Cert is sold out. You will just have to watch the video).
Currently Anthony and Jodi are in lead by about 8 points. You can check out the thread on the message board for all the gory details.

"You’ve got to drive the body to the last inch of energy then go on! You gain nothing by just going up to where your body says you’re tired. The body will build and grow only to fit the demands the mind makes upon the lazy body. If all you do is exercise until the body is tired, the body will get lazy and stop a bit shorter every time. You must go to the point of exhaustion, then go on. That way the body figures out, “We’ve got to build up more strength if that crazy mind is going to drive this hard!” If you always quit when you are merely tired, you will never gain. Once you let the body tell the mind when to quit, you are whipped for sure. You can not gain by listening to the body. We can become much stronger if we drive the body. We use about on-tenth of the available strength of our bodies and less than that of our minds."

Cover Guy

Breck Berry of CrossFit Jenks.
"I do a lot of local 5km's and other road races here in Oklahoma just for the competition. I stick to the WOD's and do no other supplemental running besides what CrossFit calls for. I have consistenly ran in the 18 minute range on all my 5km's and have managed to have a few in the 17 minute range. I usually place in the top 10 and usually always place in the top 3 in my age group 30-34. Last month I opened my mailbox to find a copy of the Oklahoma Runner magazine with me on the cover. I thought this was ironic since I am not what you call a true runner. Everyone at the races always ask how I train and how many miles I put in during the week. When I tell them CrossFit and that I rarely run more than 3-5 miles a week on the CrossFit program, many of them I don't think believe me."
