CrossFit Pasadena (CA)
A CrossFit Affiliate Viewpoint: "If I Could Do It All Over Again . . . I'd Do It Right " by Johnny Di Gregorio of CrossFit Pasadena
I firmly believe that managing and operating your business with the highest level of professionalism from day one creates the fundamental base needed to create an atmosphere that allows for a wonderful community to grow and flourish. My community is amazing. That said, I am not perfect and neither is my business. I have learned these important lessons about how to successfully create a community and run a business from making mistakes . . . LOTS OF MISTAKES. Take what you will from this and discard what you do not agree with.
Be the First in Your Area. 3 years ago this was easy to accomplish. I worked at a CrossFit Gym in Monrovia (10 miles east of Pasadena), no gyms North or South and the nearest gym West was in Burbank (11.5 miles west of Pasadena). When I opened my affiliate, I chose Pasadena because I wanted to be the first in the area to open up. I wanted everyone in Pasadena to know about CrossFit and know about it because they walked through my doors. With the incredible number of affiliates today and so many in the process of setting up, it is becoming more difficult to be the first. Being the First Established CrossFit Affiliate in your city is a powerful advertising tool that no one can take away from you. It is worth being a bit more patient when choosing a location.

Cave CrossFit (CA)
A CrossFit Affiliate Viewpoint: "Purpose and Profit " by Brian Jaffe of Cave CrossFit
How can we make our athletes better? This question is always at the forefront of our minds as we conduct business as a new and young affiliate. We learned early on though that you can't make anyone better, rather, you can only show them the path and the necessary steps to evoke the changes within themselves to become the person they want to be. As affiliate owners and coaches, we are afforded the ability to provide this opportunity for progress everyday by helping athletes find and break their limitations both physically and mentally. However, it can be difficult to constantly ensure that those opportunities align with your overall goals as a business. Make no mistake, we are a business, and if we don't hit certain financial goals, put systems and buffers in place to ensure stability in times of unforeseeable chaos, or use unrelenting discipline in our decision making, we will not be around long enough to even play the game. Yet, this seeming disconnect can be reconciled if we choose to align the needs of our athletes and community with those of our business to constantly create an underlying element of value. More specifically, we look at how we can provide more value than the payment we expect in return. Crazy? Maybe so. But it is this mindset that will lead to an enduring community and profitable business.
