Can an affiliate register without having to purchase a BTWB subscription?

Each participant needs to register on BTWB?

Affiliate owners collect and turn over donations?

Please provide "how to" details for managing the event.

Thanks!

What’s the youngest age a kid can be to compete?

Hi Marah. I saw your comment, and thought I could possibly help. I work on the Kids seminar staff and might be able to give you a couple ideas for kids of different ages.

Most importantly, we think kids of any age can do the workout. However, it can look very different for a 5 year old compared to a 17 year old.

At CrossFit X-Factor last year we had a group of kids (ages ~5-12) do the workout with dodgeballs/basketballs for wall balls, deadlifts, sit ups and hang power cleans. We spent about 20 seconds at each station for 3 rounds. We then played a game of musical medicine ball, and ended with a saved by the barbell cheer. No weights. No scores. No stress. Just a bunch of fun.

For our group of teenagers (ages ~12-17), we had a trainer take them through a warm up to make sure they all had appropriate weights and then kept check on their form during the workout to make sure they stayed safe. Some used a 15lb bar, and some used the RX weights. It just depended on how well they moved and their maturity. We kept the minute per station for this age group.

Hope this helps and you get some kids to join the fun. Cheers!

I feel fortunate to have participated in the CF L1 Course at CrossFit Big D!

The principles and methodologies were delivered to us in a way that were clear, concise and easy to digest! My favorite theme of the course was "balance" and our coaches did a fantastic job teaching us the importance of balance in order to achieve better health across your lifespan! Thank you Abi, Gale, Ted and Tefy.

A special thanks to Tefy for allowing me to be "voluntold" to attempt my first Strict Ring Muscle Up. What a confidence boost!

Coaches Abi, Tefy, Gale, and Ted leading L1 at CrossFit Big D in Dallas were tremendous. I am a 26 year Texas educator. I spent 19 of those year evaluating teachers as a principal. The two highest ratings we could give were “Distinguished” and “Exceeds Expectations.” You guys “Exceeded Distinguished!!!” I thoroughly enjoyed it and am better because of it!!!

Had an amazing experience training with the CF Level 1 course in Raleigh, NC this weekend. Donny, Dennis, Jenni, and Ashley had us working hard the whole time and kept things engaging. They were able to teach the fundamental movements that will not only help me as an athlete, but will allow me to coach with comfort and give me the beginning tools to cue people into correct positions as they are learning the sport. I can't thank them enough for the attention to detail and care they put into the course. Thanks coaches and everyone else in the course!

At CrossFit Big D, Coach Abi mentioned three characteristics of successful coaches: They're caring, knowledgeable, and fun. By those standards, Coaches Abi, Tefy, Gale and Ted are some of the most successful out there. We learned a lot this weekend and had a great time doing it! Thanks coaches!

Up until relatively recently the WOD had one prescription (Rx) detached from sex. For example, “Fran” was always 95lbs, and anything under that was a scale, irrespective of sex, except in competition, of course, which is a small demographic.

For the last year (or so-ish) I’ve noticed there are two prescriptions, one male and one female. We are all used to having an Rx for different sexes in competitions, but, historically, not on the main site.

1) Anyone know why this programming has changed?

2) Why, outside of competition, divide the Rx into sexes rather than having one Rx of which anything under is scaling regardless of sex?

3) Don’t 80% of males need to scale these workouts well under what’s labeled as female Rx?

I don't have any official answers but from a woman's perspective, I find that it is very satisfying to do something RX (at the female weight) rather than feeling like I have to scale. I do scale on some workouts, as I know most of us probably do at some point, but if it were only the one weight I would be scaling 90% of the time in order to keep the same stimulus. I know it's just a matter of semantics, but as someone who has been doing crossfit for several years now and am halfway decent (I'd like to think), I don't expect to ever reach a level where I could do the guys weights and keep the same workout. I'm glad that I don't have to be a games level athlete in order just to do the workout RX. Just my two cents...other ladies might feel differently :)

The Military scales it’s test, so why not scale it here to the opposite sex; not only does it give it a realistic goal to the beginning athlete but it also lets them scale it farther back and not feel incomplete. It Crossfit wanted to take it further, they would scale it farther by considering age and occupation, they could also go as far as scaling it for athletes with prior injuries who are handicapped🤷🏽‍♂‚️

The volume of adult female lungs is typically 10-12% smaller than males with the same height and age. There are significant body composition differences (men tend to be leaner), hematocrit differences (higher levels of testosterone lead to slightly higher red blood cell counts), and differences in heart size. Males tend to have a higher proportion of Type II muscle fibers and testosterone while female have more Type I muscle fibers and estrogen.

As you can see, the machinery is different which will alter the capacity in individuals when all things are equal in training experience, age and height but the gender differs. Not sure if HQ follows this logic but it is a possible explanation for a gender specific scaling.

Thanks Brett and Tom for such an inspiring weekend. I really appreciated your attention to detail and calm confident coaching. Thanks also for scaling the drills and workouts...it was great to be able to participate in it all. Such a lot to take in!!! Four days later my brain and hamstrings are just starting to recover. What a lovely group of people doing the course. Thanks too to Brian CFCW for such a great venue.

I’m in!

This program will support schools and communities to educate our children on how to stay healthy. Our kids need this foundation of nutrition and exercise so they don’t end up with chronic disease (diabetes, NAFLD, obesity, CVD).

As important as any other education (reading, writing, arithmetic) our kids will get.
