Congrats to Brian for getting on Mainsite. Awesome pic. First combine to make Mainsite too? Couldn't happen to a better guy. One of the hardest working, most down to earth people I've ever met. PCF.

today is day 3 of chemo/radiation.
a little achy, tired yesterday. scaled wod to 10 burpees, 30 squats, 5 hspu. too anemic and platelet deficient to trust self to 60sec handstand--figured would blow a brain vessel and destroy what little brain function i have left, ha. pretty dizzy after hspu, lots of resting to 'gain bearings' again.

6 rounds, 4 burpees. first time squats were worse than burpees.

looking forward to a rest day...

"First: What It Takes to Win"
by Rich Froning

I started Rich's 2013 autobiography right after finishing "Learning to Breathe Fire" (see comments on 140818) partly because Amazon suggested it, but mostly because the previous book, while extremely informative, failed to motivate me. My expectations were low – I don’t typically read non-fiction, I’m more of a Stephen King kind of guy – but I found myself happily surprised with this one. It was fast-paced, and I particularly liked the first-person account of Rich’s Sectionals, Regionals, and Games appearances. I must admit, I was a little disappointed (but not surprised) that Rich didn’t actually write the book. He was interviewed by David Thomas, and admits in a YouTube interview that he didn’t even read it before it was published.

This book was easy to read and got me fired up to work out. However, with almost no real advice for the average Joe (ha ha), I found the title a bit misleading. A better title would be, “First: What It Took for Me to Start Winning.”

Row 500m
18 Unbroken Push Jerk (115)
Row 500m
15 Unbroken Push Jerk
Row 500m
12 Unbroken Push Jerk
If you break a set, you must row 250m before you can continue it.

RX: 10:50 Thanks CF Hampton Roads!

I really liked the article on different ideas of compensation for coaches.

An affiliate in my area actually pays for a large percentage of certifications for coaches--another good idea for retention.

I just had a thought: if a client's late to my class, instead of burpees I'm going to ask for a six-pack of good beer. Yeah. Better than money.

The only issue I have with compensating coach's for new clients, then they just become salesmen, not coach's.
