I know some people are going to ask so here it is! This workout says "cleans". A rule of thumb to live by on workouts with cleans and snatches. If it doesn't say "power" when it is a squat clean or snatch. I hope this help guys and gals!
I challenge everyone to do squat cleans tomorrow!

Having done a lot of oly lifting training in the past a clean to me means a full olympic depth clean but here a 'clean' seems to mean a power clean and when a full clean is required it's called a squat clean, just wondering why this is. As in an oly gym if you were to say a squat clean people they would look at you sideways

Comment #10 - Posted by: Jack at August 18, 2014 9:13 PM

7:13 as Rx'd. PR by 62 seconds over 131219.

@Jack #8: of the weight is light I muscle clean it. A little heavier means I power clean. Really heavy means I clean it using a squat because I can't pull the bar high enough to get under it without squatting. In CF, unless specified, a "clean" is simply ground to front rack. How you get there is up to you.

Had no rings, but out on a drilling rig in the north sea,the waves made the ordernary dips shaky as well, not to mention the clean squats:)

Ok I'll answer this question about the power clean. A good rule of thumb when it says "clean" is to squat. Only when it actually says "power clean" should you do the power movement. With that being said it's really up to you.

I did assisted ring dips (I weigh 360!):

9:39.5

I really feel bad about making fun of crossfitters. Being a powerlifter by trade, I decided to try crossfit a few weeks ago to drop some fat and now I have nothing but respect for Crossfit. There may not be many 600 pound benchers in crossfit, but this type of training is WAY more applicable to daily life than a traditional SHW powerlifting regimen. Keep it up!

Great to see you do the HS walk! I´m still struggling, but somehow I learned DUs, so maybe I will learn this as well some day...

@Mike A: I did the WOD the same way and as I understand it`s Rxd since the cleans are not specified as squat cleans, but some would call it "power Elisabeth". Great job and PR, by the way!

Just thought I'd share this since the question has come up a few times. More often then then not "cleans" implies a full squat clean as I've found in my time working out with you guys on here. Power or hang will be specified otherwise. However, if you youtube "Crossfit Elizabeth" there is a 23 minute video from the men's heat of Elizabeth in the 2012 games and the athletes were doing power cleans. Since it doesn't get much more RX'd then the games I would say HQ's intentions for this WOD are power cleans. Just thought is share what I found.

If my memory serves me the 2012's Elizabeth was a "power Elizabeth" every box I've been to uses the Olympic clean when doing cleans which is a full squat . It will be specified hang or power if it is anything other than a full squat clean. It is a little confusing though because sometimes they post a workout with squat cleans but I think that is to make people do the full movement and not give them the choice. Either way you do it you'll get a good workout but doing a full squat really makes it a complete lower body workout.

The question about cleans vs power cleans has come up before. Generally when a WOD states "clean" it means a full clean; ie, catching it in a squat and standing up. Elizabeth has always been done as full squat cleans, and there are numerous videos on the site demonstrating it using squat cleans (featuring Greg, Annie S, Miranda, Nadia, etc). It was done as 1 of the final 3 events at the Games last year using power cleans, but this seems to have been an exception.

Comment #108 - Posted by: Mike M at August 19, 2014 3:03 PM

Some videos on the website showing demonstrations of Elizabeth. All explicitly state that squat cleans are the Rxed movement.

With power cleans
It seems that the term clean has made some growth and hasnt stayed rigid as our midline should in the ñast couple pf years. Cleans now mean any way from floor to rack. In the good old days it meant full clean for elizabeth, so this would have been power elizabeth, which sounds good to me. Should you do it with full cleans or power cleans? Try both. Should you do it with 40kg or with 60 kg? Try both. Is it rx if you did power cleans? Does it reaaaaaally matter that much to do things as rx? Intensity should come first than RX IMO
