Are those DB Squat Cleans done with 1 DB or 2?

Comment #1 - Posted by: Zach at May 12, 2014 5:14 PM

@Zach, 2 DBs

get some, go again!

Comment #2 - Posted by: Mel 41m/5'10"/185 at May 12, 2014 5:54 PM

@Mel,

Thanks! Still new to some of the CF terminology :)

Comment #3 - Posted by: Zach at May 12, 2014 6:08 PM

Would 30 95# squat cleans be a fair sub for the DBS?

Comment #4 - Posted by: Lonnie at May 12, 2014 6:26 PM

@Lonnie
Probably not... Since you're already doing 100lbs. of dumbells, and squat cleans with a bar are easier.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Matthew at May 12, 2014 6:44 PM

@Lonnie - agree with Matthew, I think 3/4 DB weight is a good surrogate for barbell. So 4/3 * 100 ~ 135. Just my $0.02.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Mel 41m/5'10"/185 at May 12, 2014 7:05 PM

Sorry for the dumb question, and I posted this on the BrandX site too, when scaled it shows women 35#, 35, 30, 20. What are these numbers in reference too? Thanks in advance.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Judy at May 12, 2014 7:10 PM

Ok great will stick with DBs..Thank you for the info @matt and @mel

Comment #8 - Posted by: lonnie at May 12, 2014 8:16 PM

Judy, those are the women's equivalent weights for the BrandX scaling levels: Big Dawgs for Rx, Porch for one level down, Pack for two levels down, etc. In this case Rx is 50# dubmbell squat cleans; BrandX scaling recommends 35# db's for women.

U.S. Air Force Security Forces 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton, 24, of Monroe, Ga., assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., was killed September 8th, 2009, while on a mission near Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Helton is survived by his mother, Jiffy Helton.

From one airman to another, thanks for Joe's service, and peace to Jiffy. I hope she knows how we honor her loss and her son's sacrifice.

Wow. Really underestimated this one. Cut the runs to 400m, scaled the DBs to 35# and still got through two rounds only:

21:55

Totally smoked. Should've used 30# DBs.

Comment #20 - Posted by: porffenton M/30/5'8"/150 at May 13, 2014 3:39 AM

Pack

Run 800m

Had to sub 800m run for 1k row, else Rxd.
TIME: 37:23.

This was one of the toughest WODs I´ve done, no rest for the back/shoulders with row "subbing". DB squat cleans got ugly pretty quick...

Loved this WOD!

800 m run on treadmill @ 7.5
50 lb DB squat clean, 10 reps
10 burpees
3 rounds - 26:35
Even though I cut the reps, it was still brutal, but I only have an hour in the morning to work out. I don't think I could have made 30 reps unless I scaled down the weight.

Comment #25 - Posted by: Steve H at May 13, 2014 6:30 AM

why did this look so easy.....it wasnt

run as Rx
scaled cleans to 30lbs/30 reps
subed burpees for 30 - 35lb kettle bell swings

Comment #26 - Posted by: isaac at May 13, 2014 6:38 AM

I'm honestly not trying to be a snot or offend anyone, but these hero wod's don't kill us, nor are they killers.
They may challenge us, or make us puke, or maybe even question us about quitting (don't)
Hopefully they make us thankful that we can participate in them, or any number of things.
and this is coming from someone who had to scale and it still took me a long time.
just my .02

Comment #27 - Posted by: Mike Andridge/44/5'8"/175 at May 13, 2014 6:39 AM

Scaled to

I hate scaling the work in hero WODs, but there's not enough daylight to do one this long and still get kids to school/me to work on time.

Had difficulty with the 50 dumbbell squat cleans. Hurt my knee and it was bothering me a little. Harder than I thought it was going to be. I did 900 meters instead of 800 because I was running in a indoor track that equaled 11 laps per mile. So 6 laps equal 900 meter roughly. I had to run up a flight of stairs run 6 laps then back down for the squat cleans and burpees.

Comment #34 - Posted by: BW at May 13, 2014 7:28 AM

Bad Weather, so we Rowed 800m, scaled to 45# and had 30min time cap.

Scaled dumbbells to 35 lbs for SCs. Biked 2 miles instead of running on the last two rounds (people were on the treadmills). Reps were Rx'd.

40-lb. (18kg) dumbbell squat clean, 30 reps

Squat cleans best in short fast sets (about 6 reps) with little rest in between, burpees best in slow pace but unbroken.

Completely misread this WOD :( thought it was: 800m run, 50lbs dumbbell cleans for 50 reps and then 30 burpees. So I tried doing that but scaled the cleans after round one.
What I did:
800m run
35lbs dumbbell cleansx50 (1st round at 50lbs)
30 burpees
