OK, new to CF so my bro (and CF adviser) told me to lower the weight to suit, did it in 22:22 - hurt like hell

Comment #7 - Posted by: Garvin at March 27, 2014 7:35 PM

Blerg. Thrusters and burpees. I hate everything about this workout...tomorrow is gonna suck!

Comment #8 - Posted by: Deidre at March 27, 2014 8:31 PM

It's going to suck, but it's only 9 more bar-facing burpees and thrusters than in Omar. We got this! (But, of course, I might be seeing the Sweet Baby Jesus in the light on those last 18 reps).

Comment #9 - Posted by: Leslie at March 27, 2014 9:03 PM

Off topic and this may have already been asked but where is Miko Sallo???? Anyone?? Bueller?

Comment #10 - Posted by: Steph at March 27, 2014 9:41 PM

Oops! My math was way off on my comment above; however, one fact remains the same: This is going to suck. Real bad.

Earlier today: squat 3x5 @ 220#. Back extensions on GHD. Worked up to 5 box jumps @ 36.5".

Due to limited mobility it is very difficult to have the bar in a racked position resting on my shoulders. Can I simply hold the bar in front of me while still complying with the start and end positions?

This is gonna be tough, mentally and physically! Plan it out in your head first then pace yourself, break up the thrusters as u need to but count down your break periods so u dont rest too long. Slow and steady through the burpees and try not to stop. My target is to break 20mins. Good luck everybody.

@Joe Northside, rocking it as usual.
D.S. good job and I hope you feel better.

I cannot stress how incredible it was to see this Open event Live. They really killed it.

The five of them actually didn't look super bulky in real life like they do in pics and on camera, and I think it's true that the camera as 10 pounds. But they all looked very strong and very fit, which we all know they are! I was so happy to watch them do this WOD.

And Castro is intense, to say the least. But to direct events of this magnitude, you kind of have to be.

Dear HQ: Could you please put the words "Bar Facing" in front of Burpees if that's what the movement actually is?

I use the abbreviated/lo-text version of the Mainsite... Burpees is not the same as Bar Facing Burpees (which is what the workout is).

My performance is going backwards, i started with scaling to The Pack weights 6 months ago, after new years i scaled up to The Porch weights, at first it went good but with a combination of renovating at home, 2 jobs and still want to be able to perform well at training it's getting a bit much i think so my question. What do you think is best? Scale back down and do the workouts as much as possible unbroken or stay with The Porch weights and do my workouts broken down? Thx

Comment #60 - Posted by: Kyle (M/36/5'10/207) at March 28, 2014 10:06 AM

@SteveN #57, barbells weight and dumbbell weight is not equivalent. Dumbbell weight is more difficult to control and requires greater trunk strength. I usually use 80# of a barbell weight if I am using dumbbells. That's just my rule, not one written in stone. In other words, a thruster with 35-40# DBs feels like a 90# barbell to me.

That was brutal. I was thinking 20 minute goal when I started. The first round was 4:30 or so, so I knew 20 min was out.
Broke up Thrusters into 3 sets for first 3 rounds, then 2 sets for 12 and one set (with standing rests for 9 & 6). Burpees were a slog the whole way.

That was awful. I really didn't want to do it as no matter how good or bad you are at those movements, you will redline it. So it was all about how willing were you to keep going. My goal was to not stop during the burpees and I met that goal. They were slow and I crawled up from some. I should have made not grunting my other goal as the last few reps were loud and stupid sounding. I'm submitting my scores by video and my husband kept playing the last minute of the video and laughing at me. Nothing like putting yourself out there... kicking madly trying to get a chest to bar pullup, or swinging from the bar trying to get your toes there or bellowing in agony after 80+ burpees.

I really appreciated the whole process of submitting my videos. I know there was some fuss about poor video judging, but I feel that my efforts here were more accurate than when I was judged at an affiliate last year. On one of the wods last year, I was appalled when I saw a bit of video my husband took of my wallballs... I was nowhere near low enough. And a different judge was having no problems counting wallballs that were nowhere near high enough. I am aware that few people will judge my video but I feel that seeing myself makes me more critical of what I am doing and very, very motivated to make sure that next year I can do toes to bar and more chest to bar pullups. Nothing like putting yourself out there looking a bit silly to make you determined to not do that again.

Thanks folks. You are my affiliate and my motivation. I may do the wods in my garage, but you are my community.

I was also very pleased that our little garage gym managed to meet all the equipment requirements of the 2014 OPEN.

Good Job Teskey Box!

30# DBs for thrusters, plank pushup burpees with a jump and overhead clap.

Used dumbbells rather a barbell so I could keep my position more upright with less chance of rounding my lower back. Harder on the shoulders than using a barbell, so I consider the tradeoff fair. I sure don't want a second spine surgery.

Got through the 21 round with no breaks anywhere, but it was too fast to start. I should have broken them up a bit to save a little for the later rounds.

I liked the flow of this one. Good workout. Definitely a keeper.

So, it's a DNF for me.

Got to finish the round of 12s and my shoulders were totally exhausted to even start the round of 9s. Definitelly heavier load than I could handle.

I'll have to keep working on strength even if that means sacrificing time on met-cons.

The 2014 season is over for me. That leaves a lot of time for me to focus on 2015. I take this first year as a learning experience and now I have a benchmark to measure my progress by.

25:36 Rx I can't believe I finished!

95# is a bit heavy but I tried to pace the Thrusters on 21-18-15 rounds but still hit a big wall around 12 round. Good tip from Darren at CrossFit PAX on taking a step toward the bar before the jump on the Burpee. Slow but unbroken burpees.

20:43 at Crossfit 201 in NJ...after I got home I realized I'd done the entire wod at 105# because I stink at math.

Re-did it at Crossfit Federal Hill in Baltimore and ended up at 18:15 thank god.

That was rough. Happy to be done with my first open.

m/19yrs/5'8"/170#

did this at a lame globo gym. this time includes the part where some random dude at the gym came up and interupted my workout and started telling why he doesnt do crossfit. I said some "ya, cool bro!"s and "mmhmm"s while i was sucking air and tried to make it obvious that I NEEDED TO FINISH this workout.
I think I could have done better.
but, after hyperventilating on the floor for a bit I went and worked on some oly lifts. Whew!
