I attempted "Diane" but failed...I completed the first 21 DL's in 1:30 but after the 1st 5 HSPU's the next 5 took me till after 7 minutes! Looks like I found a glaring weakness to work on.

Switched the WOD to last years 13.2

Did my own stuff today.
First workout was an hour and 40 minutes of swimming.

second workout:
warmup: easy 1000 meter row
10-6-2 back squat
10-6-2 bench press

WOD 1: for time: 500 meter row
40 squats
30 sit ups
20 push ups
10 pull ups

done in 3:39, some of you may remember that as the first work out on the killing the fat man series.

Done less than 10 minutes later

WOD 2: for time
10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Burpees
Push ups
Air Squats

done in 9:46, this was also mentioned on the killing the fat man series as one of the work outs the guy did with his wife.

I then finished up with:
5-5-5-3 snatch 45#-65#-85#-105#
5-5-4(failed rep 2 on the last set so it ended up only being 3) 115#-135#-145#
50 GHD sit-ups just as a kicker

Thanks NickR. Also, should the deadlift weight be one you can do 21 reps without rest? I just split the first two sets into two parts. Also completely failed on the HSPU. Did as many as I could.

Did this for the 1st time three days ago before 14.1 was released. I was hoping for a better time but the deadlifts were killer. I've never done more than 10 deadlifts at a time. But with a deadlift 1RM of 445, it was brutal!

Sunday musings…

1) Shades. No one ever hurt their eyes by looking on the bright side.

2) Euripides. It's way easier to pronounce our Classics. Like "Fran" and "Diane".

3) FranX2. Here's a new benchmark: the couple's Fran. Camzin and Connor Martin have a COMBINED Fran PR of 4:52. That would be adding their Fran times together.

I've got nothing to add to that.

4) Lemonade. Mrs. bingo and I are a bit beaten down by the NE Ohio winter. Our solution? Kinda like that old "if life hands you a bowl of lemons" saying: we went snowshoeing.

I'm kinda stuck on what to do when mud season starts, though.

5) Open. Once upon a time I came here several times each day to check in on my cyber-gym mates. Heady days, those, with >1000 posts on a "Fran" day. The explosive growth of the Affiliate model has drawn most people to a local Box, and what we shared so many years ago is now shared locally and regionally rather than in one central place.

Except during Open Season, that is. This is our soccer World Cup, Olympics, and Mardi Gras, all wrapped up into 5 weeks. More than 200,000 of us are signed up, doing the WODs, posting our results, and Scoreboard Watching. Who got what? Where do I stand? Did you see that score from Kenya? Even if you, like me, simply use the Open WODs as a check on your own fitness, or even as just another day of training, there is still something just enough different, just special enough to make it seem like a bigger deal even if you won't even see the middle of the Bell Curve.

I think it's because you're in. For the price of 3 Mocha Grandes you are as in as anyone and everyone else. For 5 weeks the Leaderboard is today's equivalent of the old Main Page comments section. And if the previous 3 CrossFit Opens are any indication the WODs will allow pretty much everyone who signed up to STAY in, too. I'm sticking with my contention that the Open is a great, big, wide open funnel that not only feeds into the Regionals but also stays open at the top each week so that most of us will stay somewhere on that Leaderboard. Everyone with the CrossFit basics in their quiver can take a shot each week. The folks running this show will see to that.

This is fun. The CrossFit dinner table becomes a banquet hall for 5 weeks, the old CrossFit.com writ large. So pass the Kettlebells and don't hog the Wall Balls. Yell and cheer as loud as you'd like. Don't worry a bit about the noise. Grandma is signed up, too!

I used the cage-bar for the dead-lifts but did the weight as RX'd. The handstand push-up was not completely at full motion, but I did all of them in the handstand position (which was a first) and did about a half way down press. I hope to get better with those but am happy with my progress.

Would have loved to have done Diane but I had to redo 14.1 cause we found out our nice camera with the tripod only films 10 minutes continually... So once I introduced myself and showed the weights, the filming stopped at about 9:20. Poop!... Only good thing about it is I improved my score from 214 to 218.

My legs were pretty fried from the C&J/Row/Burpee WOD yesterday, so I knew squats would be trouble.

I deadlifted with a more upright back than usual, though, and a new PR felt almost easy. If my neck wasn't feeling weird, I would have tried to go heavier.

I struggle with trying to work on my weakness yet also getting the stimulus of the workout. I love looking at the comments to see what others have done and then I try put my own spin on it. Between you, Kevin C. Jim N. Chuck B Bill M Glorybelle and D.S. I'm getting a pretty good idea of how I need to scale to get the stimulus yet also improve weaknesses-which are many:)

First time I've kipped HSPU. Had hands on 25lb bumper and abmat under my head. Usually do them strict with no bumpers and use the abmat. The range of motion is further with the bumpers. I kept kipping myself off the wall. This was about three minutes off my PR for Diane doing it the other way. Shoulders are smoked from 14.1 & Fran.
