I agree with bingo here, that's just unkind. I had Fran lung from 14.1--230 reps. 11.1 was 105 reps, so big improvement.

Hey guy's, I have a question for the more experienced ones here. I've been doing CF now for like 6 months and also did the level 1 course last month. I really want to get better at this but the biggest problem is that there's no CF box nearby where i can go train, so i have do my workouts in 3 different places to be able to do everything that comes up in WOD. My question. Would you stick to the 6 benchmark girls for a while and really improve these and maybe add the new girls after a couple off months or would you just do the WOD's as they come up and make the best of it? Thanks

@koen, do the workouts as they appear man, as best that you can. I'm 2 years into crossfit an have still never trained at a box. I use homemade, and garage sale equipment, and some new as well. Mainsite workouts will work to get you insane fit. In my opinion, it is lacking in its strength component tho. Lift something heavy before each wod, then do the prescribed wod.

@koen, I'm not as experienced as most, but what
I chose to do was slowly build my gym piece by piece
over the past year and a half using craigslist and finding
coupons and sales for local sporting goods stores. I got
creative and picked up a free used tire at a tractor repair
shop for flipping, hung rope that I acquired from a boat yard from a tree in my yard and built a couple of plyo boxes.

Also, most of the local boxes have free trial classes, so I signed up for several of those to learn proper form for the different lifts and exercises associated w/ crossfit.

As wods came up with the equipment I had I would do
them, subbed when I could but when I couldn't I used the
girls, googled crossfit affiliate wods, and/or downloaded
wod apps on my phone that would create new wods with
the equipment I had.

For less money than I would have spent on a box or gym membership, over that time, I now have my own personal gym
that never closes, where there is never a line for equipment and I can listen to whatever music as loud as I want to. The commute is easy too.

Hey everyone. First ever post here, first Crossfit workout done today. I'm a recreational runner that just ran my half marathon PR last Sunday. (1:36:21) I decided to take the month of March and do something different. So here it is, going for a month of trying to do main site WOD's as Rx'ed to best of my ability. Figured I'd see what all the hype is about. Wishing I had taken a day off yesterday! Anyway, here it is:

After 8 weeks of mainsite, my first Fran:

22:37 Rx'd. High score wins, right?

I should really be scaling this, but I wanted to see how I'd do. The thrusters are very challenging for me at this weight. I had to take it very slow and probably spent 80% of my time on them. The whole workout was pretty much done in mini-sets of 3.

Hopefully I'll win the most-improved award next time this pops up.

@Glorybelle

Well done. I can't speak for everyone, but like Bill M. there was a lot of cursing and throwing and time wasted before I was able to even do a few unbroken.

As for the rope, may I recommend trying the Rx Jump Rope. The website helps you decide what size, weight, and design to select. The rope needs to be able to give you feedback. Too heavy, and it will take great effort just to do a few jumps. Too light, and you will trip up because you can't tell where the rope is.

However, the ropes are relatively expensive (about 50 before shipping). It may be best to get the info you need from the site and find your rope from a reseller.

Mike Andridge, massive pr today...well done!

Glorybelle, going from 45 to 65# is a huge percentage increase in weight, as a hard second WOD today, so that time is super!

Reassuring to read of all the cursing that accompanied learning du's, as I've so far done 2 du's in my life, but have cussed at the rope (and my clumsiness) a lot more!

#83/STP, stay with us, and in about 6 months you'll cut at least 5 minutes off that time. Remember...its you v. you, and no one else.

This was 5 minutes WORSE than my last attempt. Either doing a WOD outside for the first time in months caused it (21 F, snow showers, very cold bars) or I need to take a week off after the Open. Either way, I'm still disappointed.

To the rest of you brave enough to attempt it, well done!

Fore!

In front of a clock set for 12 minutes:
4 minutes of clean and jerks, 105 lb.
4 minutes of 45lb sumo deadlift high-pulls
4 minutes of burpees

C&J: 11
SDHP: 43
Burpee: 28

Total: 82

I ran across the gym to the rowers only to find them both in use, so I looked around for an empty bar and did SDHPs instead. Lost about half the time, though...

Made up 140228 first.

AMRAP 10:00

90 Single Unders
75 lb Power Snatch, 15 Reps

3 Rounds

5 minute break. Then:

"Fran"
21, 15, 9 Reps for Time:

75 lb Thrusters
Pull Ups

9:42

This was really the first workout I've done when I've been feeling pretty good (have had the flu) for the better part of two weeks. I doubled up in an attempt to get my cardio, strength, etc back up and running. Subbed Single Unders as I still can't seem to do DUs continuously. Also, went ahead and stuck with 75 lbs for the Thrusters for Fran. Overall, it was a good workout. The times, etc. were nothing to write home about, but not bad for having been sick for a while and doubling up on the workouts. There really is something to be said for that first workout after you've been under the weather for a while. While it is difficult, it feels so good to finally be "alive" again.
