Someone, somewhere, didn't provide an adequate sacrifice to the Crossfit gods.

Every time I cough it feels like I'm doing a GHD sit-up.

Comment #2 - Posted by: Gavin at February 8, 2014 6:36 PM

Oh yes!!! GHD Situps....I was just thinking to myself the other day.....I wonder when CFHQ is gonna throw in some GHD Situps and WHABAM there they are!! Thank you HQ!! You're the best!

Haha, y'all funny. I don't think my crack sweat has dried from the last set. Summertime 6-pack here we come!!

Feb has sucked. These repeat wods are getting old. Not even excited to see the main site anymore

Comment #4 - Posted by: Rapture Brad at February 8, 2014 7:10 PM

@Rapture Brad

Are you even doing the workouts? I can assure you these cycles have been anything but boring. The repeats are another way to test our fitness; they still require mental, physical, and emotional discipline to push through.

Comment #5 - Posted by: buffedout at February 8, 2014 7:30 PM

Prediction for tomorrow:

For time:
50 Ring dips
115 pound Squat snatch, 50 reps

I hate being in a place w/ no bar! The recent WODs/rep schemes have been awesome.

After all these GHD sit-ups, folks are going to be posting some impressive times and/or weights on lifts requiring mid-line stability.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Jim R/51/5'8"/160 at February 8, 2014 9:54 PM

I am confused by repetitiveness of the feb. WODS, can someone explain the purpose for me?

CrossFit is a CORE strength and conditioning program. I like these test WODs! Also like that we've had to blow the dust off that piece of equipment in the corner.

These wods are interesting to me as they expose my weakness'. 100 ring dips I pulled through quickly. 100 l sit pull-ups, eh, not so much. Same rep scheme but one WOD smoked me and the other I felt good after. Keep em coming HQ thank you and if the haters knew what the results would be if they followed mainsite to a "T" then perhaps they start doing and quite thinking.

The only reason people question/complain about repeated WODs is because it kicked their ass the first time and they dread seeing it a second time (myself included). It only makes us stronger!
Looking forward to this one... already sore from Rope Tech class yesterday. Let's see how well I'm able to push through.

Bill M., amen. I try to save up WODs for when I don't like the programming, but "don't like the programming" normally means "something I'm bad at" and thus something I really should do. Really, this site is an embarrassment of fitness riches.

And I know you'll crush this WOD...right up your alley!

Comment #41 - Posted by: Jim R/51/5'8"/160 at February 9, 2014 8:07 AM

Jim -- Funny, that's my definition of "don't like the programming" too ;) Can't tell you how many times I've done Cindy at a hotel gym or 7 minutes of burpees in the room.

To all those commenting that the workouts are too "repetitive" and lack variance; you will all be sorely depressed with the Open WODs.

In the years since the inception of the Open qualifying format there have been ~15 movements used. That's it! Classic crossfit movements according to Coachs "fitness in 100 words". These triplets and couplets in the past few weeks are in my mind a primer for workouts that may be used in the Open (or a variance of them; prob no GHD in the open).

Do the WODs. Compare the movements and understand how they all work together. Bingo made great insights into why things may be programmed in January each day.
Keep up the great programming!!

Wow, that was tough. My wife and I put a contract on a house last night so I ended up eating fast food for dinner and getting to bed really late. OK, OK, just making excuses, but I was not feeling this today. Struggled on through it anyway though.

Scaled the Power Cleans to 95 lbs. GHDs were on a balance ball with feet under 100 lb dumbbells. Hands to the floor.

3 RFT:
21 Power Cleans 95 lbs
27 Burpees
27 GHD Situps

26:32

It's funny, when this workout was posted I was thinking that the GHBs were going to be the hardest thing, but the burpees ended up killing me. The GHBs seemed relaxing (if there is such a thing) at the end of each round.

Complain? Why? Every one of these is a challenge. I usually suck at at least one of the posted exercises in each WOD, but scale down, slow down or substitute and get through it. That's what life is about, overcoming adversity. Each time we get through one of these WODs, it is a victory.

Sunday musings (Open Season)…

It's Open Season both in and on CrossFit. We are now as "In Season" as we ever get as athletes as we prepare to begin the CrossFit Open, the largest, most inclusive athletic event in the world. This is the time of year when more of us extend our competition beyond "you vs. you" and put our numbers out there up against everyone else. The CrossFit Open is when we spend a little bit of time pursuing the "Sport of Fitness", even if like me one is principally concerned with Fitness as a pursuit worthy of a singular focus.

Since this is competition we will necessarily push ourselves in the same manner that all other competitive athletes do. During "Open Season" we will behave like runners, powerlifters, weightlifters, and all manner of people who train for a specific event or season. There will be evidence of overreaching, of overextending, and we will undoubtedly hear of injuries in the process. Hence my opening: it will be "Open Season" on CrossFitters and CrossFit. The CrossFit Open is gonna place a big 'ol target in the middle of your back, as well as one right smack on the front door of CrossFit HQ.

Should you care? Not surprisingly the answer is "yes and no". There's no question you should care enough to sign up and then care about your own CrossFit Open. The cyber-gym opens up to the world and for 5 weeks includes everyone who belongs to an Affiliate, too. We're all together as one. Yes, you care about that. You are part of a community now, and this is our annual family reunion, so to speak.

Your own Open is all about caring. You need to care enough to look objectively at your level of fitness, your collection of strengths and weaknesses, and plan on how you will address the tasks we are given. Will you taper into 14.1-5 or will you do them as simply the next WOD to come out of the Hopper? How about test driving the WODs, doing them to "get a feel" rather than just going for it? What if you don't do as well as you expected? What kind of schedule will you create if you plan on doing each one more than once? Yes, indeed, you should care about your own CrossFit Open.

Now, about that target on your back. Once we go "live" on February 27th there will be all sorts of folks out there aiming at you, at us, at CrossFit. In a world filled with regular people who day in and day out push themselves harder than all but the tiniest percentage of competitive athletes, for 5 weeks we will likely push just a little bit harder, and there will be just a few more of us who end up "off the rails" as it were. There will be a barrage, a deluge of all manner of invective hurled at our world. "CrossFit is dangerous." "High rep [you-name-it] should not be done." "CrossFit programming is this-or-that, where both are bad."

Should you care?

For the most part I'm going with "no". If your Mom is concerned, or your POOSSLQ, then maybe you need to pay a little attention to the haters, the attention grabbers, and the sensationalists so that you can reassure your loved ones that you are OK. Otherwise I'm going with "no", there's no reason you should care about the various and sundry sticks and stones being hurled at you and CrossFit. Seriously, why bother? Why help someone make a non-story (there are injuries in competitions) into a big story? Why worry that something you KNOW to be false (eg. "CrossFit is dangerous") might be true just because it's posted on the internet by someone who has no idea what CrossFit is, let alone the Open? Why provide credibility by caring about commentators who have none to start with?

The bottom line is this: it's Open Season here IN the CrossFit world. What we have is measurable, observable, and repeatable, and we're going to do just that over 5 weeks. You and I will push just a little harder, even if you, like me, have exactly zero chance of moving on to Regionals. There will be more precision, more perspicacity, more virtuosity. We will be drawn even closer, with or without any targeting from those outside our community. For 5 weeks we will demonstrate that what we do and what we have is both very real and very good.

Yes, you care about that.

I'll see you next week...

Byron #21 - thank you for the words I'd love to say everytime I read that someone hijacks our time to complain on this site...

Mike A. #46 and Bill M. #47 - I echo your sentiments, I often have either my 15 or 9 year old daughters read me the WOD after 8pm and we all joke about it a bit and wonder in amazement how it'll unfold at 5am the next day...

Had a buddy come to my home box (garage) today to do the wod in 30degree air - 21:20 with 100# cleans - and my 9 year old mentioned above spent the whole time out in the cold encouraging both of us = pretty cool :-)

Gavin, I'll trade you a Cindy round or 2 for 15# on all the lifts!

Joe N, I like the seated box jump idea...backwards from what we normally do w/ box jumps and probably a lot harder. I remember one WOD a few years ago when we did tabata squats, starting from the squat position. About killed me.

Looking forward to more coughing tomorrow morning!

I will never complain about free stuff, in this case programming and oh by the way it's the best in the world for overall fitness.

Things don't make sense till they do. We will likely get an ah-ha moment when the open comes out. Or even a six pack ready for summer would make sense of all these GHDs.

Also if anyone knows someone with the initials GHD, punch them in the face for me.

Enjoy!

@Byron and those who agree with this idiot. He says 'I often question who these people are who complain. Your place is not to question but simply 'do'. The critical thinking and analysis has been done for you, courtesy of this here website. Just follow you orders and shut the hell up'

Really?! While I agree, if someone doesn't like the workouts or gets bored of them - just move on to something else. But there's nothing wrong with asking about all the repetitiveness. It's an honest question that someone is curious about.

"Your place is not to question but simply do...just follow your orders" - what a way to live life. For relevancy to this thread, what if the gent who created Crossfit never questioned old training techniques, routines and methods - Crossfit would have never existed if he just 'followed orders' to lift this weight that way.

Just think before you speak sometime.

Not sure why people get upset when someone questions the progamming - its not disrespectful or unappreciative to ask,"Whats up?"

If been on the Mother Ship for... longer than I care to admit quite frankly. I suspected early on in 2014 that someone new was in on the programming. What do I know? Piss all! Least I'm not alone it seems.

I'll hit this one tomorrow as my sched allows and make the appropraite tweaks, if need be - like always.

Respect!

Disrespectful complaining for something provided free is not cool.

BUT, respectful questions in search of knowledge should be cool. Slamming respectful questions is not cool.

And any criticism that says "stop thinking" makes you sound like a communist. If you mean stop complaining say that.

Bingo, great post.

FWIW, alpine skiing definitely dangerous.
Snowboarding? Dangerous.
Hockey? Dangerous.
Luge? Dangerous.
Ski Jumping? Dangerous.
Short track speed skating? Dangerous.
Bob Sled? Dangerous.
Skeleton? Dangerous.

Why do they have these Olympics anyway? Very Dangerous.

Burpees slow & steady except last round which was pretty broken. Snaky Burpees last 2 rounds. Tried to focus on good pull & tight butt at top on PC. Slow & broken. GHD's pretty tough. Better since I rotated legs out slightly-engage IT band.
