is that pushups from a handstand?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Aglaroth at January 14, 2014 5:17 PM

Well that seems silly. Bet it is a smoker though.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Beau at January 14, 2014 5:17 PM

Perfect - nearly wall-to-wall busy day tomorrow and was hoping for a WOD I could squeeze in to a dead hour in my office w/o equipment. The Crossfit gods have smiled on this sweaty professor - thanks!

Assuming the last 50 is hspu, but maybe "just" launch up into 50 hand stands?

Comment #7 - Posted by: henry at January 14, 2014 5:19 PM

Yeah , that's crazy !

Comment #8 - Posted by: Artur Machado at January 14, 2014 5:19 PM

Looks like 2 burpees, a situp, and a handstand.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Sugar Land at January 14, 2014 5:22 PM

Newbies: click on the WOD (should be blue) to see a demo. Each movement is individual and unique, but in the progression listed.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Gavin at January 14, 2014 5:22 PM

@sugar it's not two burpees. That other move is a jumping jack. And there's a push up in there as well.

Burpee, Push-up, Jumping-Jack, Sit-up, Handstand.

Please enjoy.

for anyone confused just click on the blue link of movements. the athlete on video does two reps of the 50

I don't get this one. Look forward to bingo's or another OG explanation.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Jim R./51/5'8"/160 at January 14, 2014 5:29 PM

Henry - it's one continuous movement - check out the demo video. I was confused too at first.

Comment #15 - Posted by: jclarke042 at January 14, 2014 5:29 PM

The exercise list is a link. Click it for a WOD demo

@henry comment 7 it's a handstand not a HSPU, just kick up into it and come down

Got this one in about 5 mins after she went up

14:30 Rx'd

very interesting sequence. never felt fatigued on this one just kept moving thru all 50. hardest part was trying to remember the order & keeping count so i may have done a few extra reps but all in good fun. took about 4-5 mins longer than i expected in looking at it on paper but i'm sure some people will be near or under 10 mins

Comment #19 - Posted by: Alex Nettey at January 14, 2014 5:37 PM

the handstand can be at a Wall..??? or its has to be an air handstand..?

@Jack tors, this is a classic gymnastics WOD, using our bodies as resistance. It's a key factor that is missing in the fitness of many non-CF individuals. The ability to control your body in space along with an increased proprioception is vital to fitness.

Comment #35 - Posted by: Gavin at January 14, 2014 7:46 PM

Gavin, I see what we're supposed to do, but it doesn't look like much...we'll see in the morning. And I suspect we're being set up for something wicked by Coach/Pukie on Thursday.

Comment #36 - Posted by: Jim R. 51/5'8"/160 at January 14, 2014 8:01 PM

If you can't watch the video for some reason,

1. Do a burpee
2. Do a push-up, then stand up
3. Do a jumping jack
4. Do a sit-up, then stand up
5. Kick up to a handstand for a second

Repeat x50

Anyone else notice the name change on posting? Sweet wod nonetheless surprised by any times sub 13 since that would pretty much ub @ 20 sec per rep. I will b happy with 15 tomorrow.

That's great! What cf is about! Looks easy on paper ha.

@Bingo, what are your thoughts on full body movements, such as air baby's, dragon flags, or animal movements. Is that something that would incorporate into a wod? I know dragon flags are brutal.

Ido portal has some crazy movements! Interested in what you or coach think about it.

@Alex Nettey and BC, your posts are very helpful in clarifying this wod. Thanks!

So I don't lose count, this is the kind of wod where I'd count out 50 pennies, or what have you, and move one penny per round to make a new pile until all 50 are moved.

Comment #42 - Posted by: Glorybelle F/44 at January 14, 2014 10:09 PM

For those those who can't do freestanding handstand, do it to wall?
I have not yet tried either so will be an experience for sure.
Not sure what else to add to this one after as seems a bit short but you never know what is coming up tomorrow with main site it seems!

@ Del

For the CFT, i would do the classic CF Warm Up

3 rounds of 10-15 reps of
Samson Stretch (do the Samson Stretch once each round for 15-30 seconds)
Overhead Squat with broomstick
Sit-up
Back-extension
Pull-up
Dip

and than a 2*3 reps B.Squat/ShoulderPress/DeadLift with medium weight.

Hey, no fair changing stuff after I've already gone to bed. Here's my Newbie post with the name of the WOD (and cool insider messages to the namesake) changed:

Welcome back! How cool is this?! A new “Girl”! Gotta confess, I am always more than a little bit extra excited when I do a “Girl” I know, and this Marguerita chick just ROCKS! Clan bingo is chockablock filled with Marguerita fans, and “Marguerita” is a very cool WOD to boot!

Ever play the drinking game “Zoom, Schwartz, Perfigliano”? It’s one of those classic games where the further you get into it the more lost you become, partly because it’s hard, and partly because you’ve lost your mind somewhere along the way. I’m thinkin’ it’s gonna be kinda like that with “Maggie”, especially after viewing the video demo. If you are a Newbie in Colorado let’s just not do this one, what with your new…um…freedoms and all. Just sayin’…

This is going to be just flat out fun! 50 reps of the 5 exercise complex Burpee/Push-up/Jumping Jack/Sit-up/Handstand. No fooling, a Jumping Jack! Owzzat for old school?! (Tossing a bone to my Cricket Brothers and Sisters there ‘cause, you know, I’m just cool like that.) Take out your handy-dandy stopwatch and hit start. Do a Burpee, then a Push-Up, then a Jumping Jack, then a Sit-Up, then do a Handstand. One. Rinse and repeat 49 more times. Hit “Stop” on the watch. Giggle. Again. I’m betting that there will be more than a few giggles as you go along trying to remember the difference between the burpee and the Jumping Jack, and the order to the exercises, and how goofy it feels to get upside down…even if you DON’T live in Colorado!

How to do the exercises? Well, you could look at the video (click on the Blue), but if you can’t get it to run or if you are just addicted to my brilliant prose (yah…as if…) let’s take a look. A CrossFit Burpee is pretty elemental. From a standing start put your body on the ground with your chest and your thighs in contact with Gaia at the same time. (Yah, I just tossed down Gaia on a Libertarian web site). Get yourself back to a standing position and jump while clapping your hands overhead. You must elevate your feet such that a credit card could be slid under your Reeboks at the peak of your “jump”. Move directly to a Push-Up. Chest to the deck, lock out your arms at the top.

Get back up and do a Jumping Jack. You DO know what a Jumping Jack is, right? 4th grade gym class, Mrs. Bumphuck (the lady with the really weird mustache)? Jump and land with your legs spread beyond shoulder width while clapping your hands over your head, then jump again while sticking the landing with your legs tight together and hands against your legs. Right? Seriously. No one really needs a video for a bloody JUMPING JACK, right?! Now sit down and do a sit-up. No fancy anything with this particular sit-up, not even an Abmat. Stand up and do something that might look like a handstand. ONE.

Now, do that another 49 times. Reminds me of that classic Robin Williams bit on golf: “Oh, so you do that one time?” “NO! Eighteen Fluckin’ times!”

This is gonna be fun. Just flat-out fun! Don’t take it too seriously if you start to mix up burpees and jumping jacks, forget to throw in that sit-up or fall on your ass getting up or down in the handstand. CrossFit is fun! This one is gonna be fun! Do it with a bunch of other CrossFitters if you can and then go have a beer. Or if you are in Colorado, well, you know, have a, you know…

Cheers Marguerita! Clan bingo misses you and we can’t wait to meet Riley! 3-2-1…GO.

Felt like it was more of a mental test, trying to keep track of rounds while focusing on order and differences between movements. 1/2 to 1/3 of handstands felt stable, 1/4 were over kicked and had to rotate to bail.

Didn´t time todays WOD. It became my warm up. Fun though and it took a couple of rounds for me to get a nice flow in the sequential motions. Got harder close to the finish when a better flow resulted in higher pace.

Went on with DL:s and "Diane"(6:03 Rxd, PR by 1:01 compared to first time I tried it in july).

Also tried "Bear complex" for the first time :)Tough one, did only 3rds with 7 sets @ *90+*100+*110. Shoulders were burned from Diane...

CF is so much fun!! :)

Nicely done Swimming Article. I was introduced to the book Total Immersion by Terry Laughlin several years ago and it forever changed my view of swimming and greatly improved my technique. I no longer struggle in the water. I highly recommend Total Immersion to anyone who is looking to improve their technique or who is learning to swim for the first time. If you are interested in improving other stokes, the book Extraordinary Swimming for Everybody also by Laughlin is a nice companion to Total Immersion.

Now it's time to have a Marguerita!

Loved this one - sneaky way to get me to willingly do extra pushups and burpees. Had fun playing with different ways to get into that handstand. Probably got in a couple extra reps until I figured out a solid counting system. Going to keep this in my back pocket for a great travel/home workout.

I screwed the pooch on this one. I began with 1 burpee,1 push up, 1 jumping jack, 1 sit up, 1 handstand. Then I did 2 burpees, 2 push ups, 2 jumping jacks, 2 sit ups, 2 handstands. I did this progressive sequence until round 9th, then it hit me. "This is going to take all day" I then realized I was doing it wrong. Silly me. Fixed the problem after round 9th.

Sure would like to see HQ come out publicly to support Kevin Ogar. Asking people to support Kevin will in no way incriminate CrossFit. On the other hand, saying nothing gives lots of fuel to the argument that CF causes injuries and is a topic that HQ doesn't want to address.

The hardest part was getting up after the situp to do the handstand! Did this one in the livingroom and had the hubby helping spot me (catching my legs) during the handstand.

Had my 5 year old do 5 reps of these which he really enjoyed!

While I am saddened to hear that any athlete was injured at a competition, I think that CFHQ may do well to ensure that all athletes carry medical insurance. While the waivers may look iron-clad, I could easily foresee a future where medical bills cause someone to amass enough debt that an attempt at legal action will follow. More poor publicity.

That said, I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

20:44 RXd. Coming off a 24 hour fast. Two observations:

1. Toward the end, while I tried to keep it strict, it was frequently closer to two burpees with a goofy spastic ending on the second one than three distinct movements. I'd get confused and start a burpee then remember as I was jumping that it supposed to be a JJ and the end result had to be fun to watch.

2. While all but 3-4 of my handstands were legit, I really gotta work on these. Mostly a confidence thing and I just need to get familiar. I over-tumbled on 3 or 4, and panicked my way out of a few also.

All in all, really enjoyed the WOD and am really psyched that it's a great travel/hotel WOD.

"hilarious", "puddle of sweat", "tougher than I thought", "wobbly", "harder than expected", "smokes your shoulders", "very dizzy", "mentally challenging", "forces you to practice handstands"...

Sounds like a perfect prescription for things we need to work on.

28:18 minus the time it took to take my necklace off and tick off reps (I missed the penny comment). It was an interesting quintuplet - a burpee, a de-constructed burpee, an anterior full body movement and a posterior full body movement.
Is there a connection, or ulterior motive? because I found I could hold a handstand very easily after rep. 15 or so.

15:00 flat. The hardest part was definitely counting the reps and keeping track of where I was in the complex. I actually got confused and momentarily couldn't decide if I was supposed to be sitting up or jumping with my hands overhead, and found myself rolling around on the floor asking aloud "why am I here?" (We've all had those moments, right? Right??!!)

I did it with 3 other people all in a circle, and aside from almost killing each other with failed hand-stands, it was really a community-building experience. It was definitely fun.

Also, I think for someone with some gymnastic acumen, there is a lot of room for shaving time off. For example, the transition from handstand to burpee could be really quick if there was no standing between them and the athlete kind of wormed her way into it. Also, a backward roll from the sit-up to the handstand would be quicker than standing and flipping over forward. Much like the way Fran became a new thing with butterfly pull-ups, there's a lot of potential for Marguerita.

I did this one As Rx last night, after my initial WOD of 20 rope climbs for time in about 12:15.
I did this WOD in about 17:25, but I wasn't overly focused on pushing too hard for time. I wanted to keep pushing to keep moving and to make all movements high quality. I no reped myself a bunch of times when I wasn't quite holding the HSPU position and in control. I think that's the jist of this WOD. To keep moving and maintain control and balance throughout. I didn't like the situp to the HSPU position as it was a bit awkward. I like when things flow better but still a fun WOD.
I also thought that the fact that there was a lot of readjusting prevented you from getting super winded, but it was nice blend of a skill building and a conditioning WOD. I'm glad I did this after the real workout. Nice blend doing both.

So I'm normally very competitive on my WOD times but I really sucked on this one! Not sure why. Anyway 26:48. Maybe I was just dragging ass. Well done to the sub 20's.

As rx'd, 15:48.

Fun little complex. Not too gassy with all the transition time built in. Pec felt good on the burpees and push-ups. Freestanding handstands - sought to stay tight and bring feet together before coming down for each rep. I was worried about losing count, so I counted out 50 raisins beforehand, and slid one over after each rep of the complex. This worked well, and provided the bonus of a tasty little snack when I was finished.

Cannot do handstands so scaled them out of the WOD

13.34 - like a few other people have said, wasn't breathing that hard but sweated buckets.

Then did some handstand development, wall walks and holds - 3 min total hold.

Handstands against wall.

22:00

Probably did some extra reps due to miscounting. Became faster when I found a rhythm on the second half.

In the video, 2 reps took 36 seconds. That would add up to 15 minutes for 50 reps without any rest. I can't believe that people who post times around 10 minutes did all honest reps...

Late to the game but was looking for an "at home" WOD and found this one. Former gymnast so maybe I had an advantage.

Kicked up to handstand by turning to the side right after hitting the top of the situp, and dropped from handstand straight into the pushup to save time

Every work out day i do this work out except hand stand and sit up. Which I am not comfortable with, I focus on jumping jacks and push ups.

My routine was
For Jj i do 8-8 counts then 8 seconds rest or until I can catch my breath repeat doing that nonstop for 30 minutes or more.

For pushups i do about 212 or lower in a day then much lower on second day then rest.

Diet veggies and boiled organic eggs

Am I doing good?
