how much weight on the squats? or just air squats?

Comment #6 - Posted by: Karl at January 10, 2014 5:19 PM

@karl. Just air squats :)

Comment #7 - Posted by: Brent L at January 10, 2014 5:21 PM

And they are giving additional practice work "spend 10 min on l-sit". Cool I just built a set of parallettes from plans that coach posted in the journal. They work awesome by the way.

Comment #8 - Posted by: hollyhog at January 10, 2014 5:22 PM

does each round have to be done before moving on? can you do some of each at a time?

Comment #9 - Posted by: Aglaroth at January 10, 2014 5:30 PM

"L-sits from the floor": does this mean without parallettes?

Comment #10 - Posted by: Dave H (M/38/5'8"/148) at January 10, 2014 5:32 PM

Anyone putting bets on this? My money would be on spealler.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Mike Albani (M/25/5'8"/164) at January 10, 2014 5:35 PM

unbroken sets, can't wait to see someone get that. I can almost guarantee it won't be me. Push ups unbroken seem challenging

Comment #12 - Posted by: Jason Khalipa at January 10, 2014 5:37 PM

thanks Jason..but the biggest question..do you all kip with the pullups? that makes it much more bearable..sort of..well not really..ugh

Comment #13 - Posted by: Aglaroth at January 10, 2014 5:40 PM

@mike
Spealler immediately came to my mind as well.

Comment #15 - Posted by: DaveF at January 10, 2014 5:44 PM

Mike A. I going with Josh Bridges ALL DAY!!!

Comment #16 - Posted by: Rapture Brad at January 10, 2014 5:45 PM

@Dave H, I do not think that you are making a mistake by pursuing this programing with parallettes. But I believe it is intended to be done without them.

As in just placing your hands at your hips and lifting yourself to support will holding an Lsit. You could play around with your hand positions or go to support on your knuckles.

Comment #17 - Posted by: aemory at January 10, 2014 5:49 PM

Could be wrong, but I think Coach is back to programming HQ wods.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Ronnieboy M/50/5'9"/185 at January 10, 2014 5:54 PM

Agree with Khalipa.....doubt anyone will do 60 push ups straight after completing 140 in the previous rounds....if it can be done....more power to you, but I want to see the video!

So do Kips counts? Not sure if this question was already answered.

Comment #21 - Posted by: irwin zapata at January 10, 2014 6:23 PM

Sorry I’m a bit late. Got sideswiped by a Sidecar.

Wow! As if a CrossFit “Girl” isn’t hard enough, ANY “Girl”, we get one called “Hard Cindy”. Apparently even THAT’S not enough of a challenge because here we are given another, harder version of the venerable “Cindy” WOD: “Cindy XXX”! Mad scientist, indeed. Bonus points if you figure out the significance of the rep scheme as it relates to “Cindy” by the end of this post.

Some of this is familiar now. “Complete as much as possible in 20:00”. While this could be interpreted in a couple of ways, I think the clue to the correct way to score this is in the challenge that Coach throws down at the end of the post: “Athlete with the fastest time to complete Cindy XXX in unbroken sets and under 20 minutes” means that this is a hybrid WOD. If you are very fast this is a “task demand” WOD, how fast can you complete the work requested. For the vast majority of us, however, this is a “time demand” WOD, how much of the work can you complete in 20:00. Some would describe this as a “task specific WOD with a time cap.” And WOW, what a task!

Each round consists of the 3 exercises seen in “Cindy” and “Hard Cindy”. Pull-ups, Push-ups, and Squats. These are all unweighted. Compete each round in its entirety before moving on to the next. Unless otherwise specified, the default PU in CrossFit is the Kipping PU. Gymnastics kip, frog kip, or the advanced butterfly kip, it doesn’t matter. Let’s not have the “kipping is cheating” conversation. So been there; so done that. Save the electrons. Same thing with the grip as before, palms away, toward, or facing one another, no one will care but you. Can’t kip? Bummer. Really. You’re just not gonna get a whole bunch of work done if you have to do them strict. Feel free to scale the PU with an elastic band (even Jeff Martin would probably keep his machete at bay for this one), a Gravitron, or sub hanging plank ring rows. Do NOT do Jumping PU in this WOD!

Push-ups as Rx’d are strict plank, chest to the deck, arms locked out at the top. There was no request for “hand release” so you may choose to do that or not. Your call. Feel free to scale by doing them from your knees, but once again don’t call them “girl push-ups” because you can expect to be embarrassed by literally hundreds of CF women doing it strict.

Squats are without any weight, just you, your ass, and gravity. Crease of the hip below your knee. Nothing new here.

The rep scheme is simple and diabolical at the same time. The PU increase by 5 each round. The Push-ups are 2X the PU, and the Squats are 3X the PU. Sounds suspiciously like “Cindy”, eh? 5 PU/10 Push-ups/15 Squats. “Cindy XXX” is…wait for it…20 rounds of “Cindy”! At least it’s the same number of reps as you would do in 20 rounds, but the stimulus is entirely different. It’s a much different challenge to just cycle 5 PU each round than it is to do 10, then 15 then…30! Your score is the total number of reps you complete in the 20 minutes (total possible is 600) unless you get it all done, then it’s how fast did you finish!

Not enough work? Well, Coach doesn’t think so. After you recover there is a “cash-out”, a little bonus work. Start a stopwatch and let it run 10:00. See how much of that 10:00 you can hold an L-sit, elevating your fanny off the ground with your feet straight out in front of you. Both feet. At the same time. Yeah. Coach is a funny guy!

Another in a new series of “The Girls Aren’t Hard Enough”. Cindy XXX in 3-2-1…Go.

Newbie post out there with all the answers you can handle.

Comment #23 - Posted by: bingo at January 10, 2014 6:27 PM

Shall we put a wager on this? I propose that each person in the crowd who successfully predicts the winner gets to pick any one person who placed a wager on someone else (a non-winner) and design for them a "Victory WOD". Honor system to get the WOD done.

I'm going to go with Spealler, final answer. Hope he does this workout and posts. Any takers?

For a guy who can BARELY string together 5 pullups, this looks intimidating as hell! Pullups are def my biggest struggle. No Gravitron, no band, no rings. Suggestions?

Comment #45 - Posted by: Pete M. at January 11, 2014 12:01 AM

328 reps
Just 10 sec on the L sits (arms were smokked)

Comment #46 - Posted by: Luuk at January 11, 2014 12:35 AM

Woeps made a mistake. I thought only one L-sit hold counted (being the longest). L sits total was 1 min and 14 sec.

@Pete M. Perhaps you can sub with incline rows (dumbbell, kettlebell or barbell). I have also used a bodyweight exercise known as the plank pull in the past (never in a crossfit WOD though). I should not that I am a crossfit newbie, but I wanted to share my 50 cents.

Comment #47 - Posted by: Luuk at January 11, 2014 1:05 AM

525 reps. me and air squats r enimies, love push ups but they hurt, mad fun though. Had my girlfriend do it with me by halving the reps and scaling the moves( ring pulls-pressups on a 30 inch box-12inch box squats. she has a spinal fusion in L5 and S1 but loves the idea of cross fit and being a former swimmer, county champion in the 200m butterfly she's determined to progress at cross fit. she finished in 13.06 sec. she's been doing crossfit 1 week so just bringing her in very slowly.

Thanks for the encouragement, Glorybelle, D.S., Gavin and Joe. Some great efforts here!

Joe N, that's a good # of reps...nicely done. No 2nd workout today? Thanks, you've been embarrassing the rest of us.

Gavin...phenomenal effort. Really well done.

Who wins this? Gonna be a shootout between Speal and Josh Bridges. Can't wait to see all the Games athletes' their times.

292 reps and was so smoked...I FORGOT ABOUT THE L-SITS! 22 pull-ups into the fourth round. I'll be glad when I get better at kipping. The required "dead hangs" as a Marine is just locked into me for the last 20 years. What is "Rx'd"?

Subd strict pull-ups and halved them.

316 reps in 20 minutes

A floor L-sit is a little beyond me; I found some progressions here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUZJoSP66HI and worked on the first one for 10 minutes. My butt is too big to get off the ground :( But I tried for 10 minutes, and I feel good about that.

Comment #197 - Posted by: Cara at January 11, 2014 1:18 PM

Just saw a quick video clip of Speal. Downward dog position deviates from any body position executed during a standard push-up, and therefore constitutes breaking up a set. Stalling in the plank position at the top of each rep would still be considered unbroken, as the athlete remains in a position normally achieved during a push-up, but folding at the hip unloads the midline and is a "break" from the push-up.

Feel free to try it again for a valid entry into the contest.

L-sit was not good. I had to get help by using the TRX straps to help keep feet off ground since I did not have the flexibility to hold my legs at a L off the ground. Comment #206 - Posted by: Dan Galuszek at January 11, 2014 1:58 PM

I did regular old "Cindy" for 11R + 2 push-ups (which was better than a few weeks ago, so Im happy)

For the L-sit, I did a Tabata scheme: 20 sec L-sit hold plus 10 sec rest for 8 intervals. The 30 sec intervals, I alternated between lifting my backside off the ground, the next interval my heels off the ground, all the while concentrating on good upper body posture (my shoulders want to come forward while doing these). This is the only way I can approximate an L-sit. This 4 minute tabata was ample practice for me.

@kylen - I would think "rx" for this one means doing the movements without subs or scaling, moving through as much as possible of the rep scheme as written, and going for 20 minutes, unless you finish all reps before that. Breaking the reps or not even completing it all in 20 mins would not mean it's no longer rx. But if you want the $500, don't break it up and post a video.

Just my interpretation.

Sub'd the L-sit for knee tuck and still couldn't get a full 30 seconds strung together at a time. Will have to add some more core work to the end of te WODs from now on, found a goat today for sure. Thanks Coach and HQ for the extra work to point out the weakness. Now time to get stronger.

Unbroken to 25 of 50 pushups @ 14:35mins.

Then had to do sets of 10 and 5. Last 25 Pushups took 2:10 mins.

@20:00 mins I finished 30 Pullups.
60 Pushups (5 at a time after 15) took 5:30 mins.
Finished 90 squats in about 1:30.

Total time: 27:18

Pushups are by far the hardest part of this WOD. Pullups were the easiest, but squats were easy to coast and hard to sprint.

This is really only 20 rounds of Cindy work wise, but in this configuration, you have to take breaks since the sets have higher reps, and in regular Cindy I think that tests you cardio conditioning more than anything as all the sets are super short and easy to blast through and just keep on going. Very lilttle musclular fatigue until the very end with regular Cindy, but with this configuration, I was feeling it in my chest and shoulders. I was also pretty sore from yetereday's WOD of DL, Bar MU & Burpees.

19:52 but more than likely about 585 reps. Push-ups good but not unbroken, squats good but not entirely unbroken, latter two sets of pull-ups had questionable ROM and should have been done over or I should've rested until I had better form. Skiing (telemark) yesterday did not help squats today.

Comment #374 - Posted by: KMart0302 M37/225/6'1" at January 13, 2014 10:38 AM

306 - subbed strict pull-ups and halved them, went "supple leopard" all over the push-ups, tough to maintain vertical forearms! haven't done pull-ups since November due to some shoulder and elbow pain, only mobility work since then and now I'm starting from scratch.

Did a bunch of little 6 second L sits from floor with flat hands, didn't count them.

Not bad on PU. Pushups tough. Only sets of 3. Need to work on pushups. Squats slow & steady trying to focus on pushing knees out on way down. Good breath & tight back.

20 Squats into last round. Finished @ 22:01. unbroken through 33 of 50 ushups.

Scaled by starting with 5PU, so completion would have = 15 rounds of "Cindy" rather than 20.

4 Rounds + 96 Reps (21 squats out of 90)

Got 427 reps...not sure how great the pullups were in the last few rounds, but I pulled as hard as I could and got as high as I could on each one....
