This will be the first main page WOD I'll rx since giving birth eight weeks ago.

(I've been using Crossfitmom.com in the meantime).

I'm excited! Let's DO THIS!

Comment #1 - Posted by: Ellen at December 17, 2013 5:08 PM

"Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think?"...

Seriously, that photo might take the trophy for least functional use of a CF exercise ever.

Comment #2 - Posted by: SteveJ at December 17, 2013 5:28 PM

Cool workout...so, about this picture. I usually enjoy seeing the funny and creative crossfit poses, but seeing this girl do a one-legged squat while shooting is amateur hour at its best. I get the joke: shooting a pistol, while doing a pistol. Seriously, if there's one activity you should just be absolutely no-nonsense about, it's probably shooting. How many ass clowns are going to try something like this, except it ends up with them shooting their buddy center mass because they fell over backwards? Am I right on this one, or just being a stick in the mud...?

Comment #3 - Posted by: Bob at December 17, 2013 5:36 PM

Who needs gun safety when you can do one-legged squats? Seriously, pictures like this shed a very poor light on the CF community

Comment #4 - Posted by: JD at December 17, 2013 5:39 PM

You'll shoot your eye out!

Comment #5 - Posted by: Hubb at December 17, 2013 5:43 PM

This picture is so darn literal. I wonder how many "rounds" she's doing? Burpees and pullups! I'll be looking for your time Pat.

Comment #6 - Posted by: hollyhog at December 17, 2013 5:44 PM

Comment #8 - Posted by: Frank R Mayhew at December 17, 2013 6:04 PM

Until the glorification of guns, and therefore war and killing, is seen as such an abhorrent waste of our potential, we will remain....asleep.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Chris at December 17, 2013 6:16 PM

I want to see the target.

Comment #10 - Posted by: alfonzo at December 17, 2013 6:28 PM

@Chris....Regrettably in this world and because of the true evil in some men (and women's hearts) we have no choice but to kill them to preserve the social order and protect the innocents. Obviously Adolf Hitler is the most prominent example of true evil in the 20th century. There have been many before him and I fear there will be many more after him. If we all lay down our arms it is only a matter of time that we will be led to slaughter like a lamb. --Former USMC officer.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Ian at December 17, 2013 6:30 PM

Hey Chris #6,
War and killing was around looooong before guns came around. Your post is completely illogical. Those people depicted aren't breaking your leg or picking your pocket, so let em be. Who are you to pontificate to the law-abiding about their ability to live free? Burpees, Pull-ups, and Boomsticks!!!

Comment #12 - Posted by: A-B at December 17, 2013 6:50 PM

I cam on here to post "in before gun control comment."

It seems like I was too late

Comment #13 - Posted by: jerry at December 17, 2013 7:07 PM

I recommend eye and ear protection. Also, avoid wrapping the thumb around the back of the firearm. My two cents.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Shu at December 17, 2013 7:23 PM

The weak-hand thumb, that is.

Comment #15 - Posted by: shu at December 17, 2013 7:24 PM

I like the literal photo! But only one person is wearing hearing protection and nobody has eye protection...

Comment #16 - Posted by: Sandy at December 17, 2013 7:29 PM

I've got news for ya boys, she hit the target... Like to see you try it before you criticize.

Comment #17 - Posted by: trizzle at December 17, 2013 8:01 PM

Trizzle as solid as her pistol squat looks, I'll believe you.

Comment #18 - Posted by: shawn at December 17, 2013 8:58 PM

Classic .com wod! Can't wait to hit it!

Comment #19 - Posted by: Matt Chan at December 17, 2013 9:18 PM

A gal on my job used a similar grip at the range while using a semi auto pistol and ended up with seven stitches and had to have a tendon reattached.

Grip needs fixed, badly.

#22/sean uk, either will work; a weekly Fran is more specific training, while sticking w/ the programmed WODs will improve your Fran by improving your overall fitness. Plus, CF is about being constantly varied and never getting into a rut; doing Fran every week sounds sorta, routine. Good luck either way.

Love almost everything about that pic. Classic CrossFit: Pistol/Pistol.

In my day job I fix people's eyes. Some stuff is just bad luck, and sometimes bad luck happens even when you do everything right. I do have a case of an irretrievably wrecked eye from a pistol range injury in which it is my fervent belief that the damage would have been averted had eye protection been worn. In real life it's not always possible; this I understand. But in practice…

BTW, this also reminds me of the classic Form/Intensity lecture from C0@ch using a firing range as example.

Comment #46 - Posted by: bingo at December 18, 2013 6:49 AM

Staged shot - pistol not loaded... maybe she put eye protection back on after the pic.

Awesome irony.
Stop being the moral police. Let people be free to use their own judgement as long as they take responsibility for their actions. Could just be a staged picture, and I would guess it is. Most people (including those here) have enough to worry about by just minding their own business.

Folks let's not encourage this kind of shenanigans on the firing line. She could easily lose her balance, squeeze the trigger in sympathetic reaction, and AD a round into the torso of one the other folks on the firing line.

Crossfit it great, and so is shooting, but ya gotta keep 'em separated.

And please, wear your ear and eye protection.

Carole, remind me next time to do 12 Burpees, but only 9 PUs per round on this WOD!

So you're assuming the pistol isn't loaded? Gun safety 101 says thou shalt no do that.

> It's the second amendment, deal with it.

No one is saying "ban guns". We're saying, "be safe". The NRA is one of the most vocal proponent for gun rights, and for gun safety. The two are not antithetical.
