Teaching myself to skip rope for the first time in my life: 20:00 (best was 10 single-unders in a row)

...and maybe 4 minutes for the squats, 50lb overhead. (In retrospect I should have loaded more. I expected my quads to be rubber after the skipping. Cowardice!)

BTW, I have a Word.doc with all the Main Page WODs since December 2007. If anyone is interested in it send me an email: tails192 at yahoo dot com. (You'll have to tolerate my imbedded results, but it's pretty handy to have all the WODs in one place.)

Nothing to do with today's wod, just some musings of mine as I enjoy a frosty beverage and watch some archived rowing footage.

As the PT coordinator for my Fire Department's 22 week cadet academy, I am tasked with taking ordinary human beings and preparing them for the labors they will face as a firefighter. It can certainly be a physically taxing job, that of a firefighter, so the academy PT reflects this.

In anticipation of the next academy (which is now two weeks underway), I requested some new equipment for the weight room of our training center. A few extra wall balls, some bumper plates, some ropes, but at the core of the package, 3 C2 rowers.

The boxes arrived a few days before the academy was to begin, and I eagerly opened them and followed the manual to get them up and running quickly. The rowers have been warmly embraced by all and will certainly be a cornerstone of our PT sessions in this and future academies, thank you very much for an excellent product!

That introduction made, let me tell you, I have completely been absorbed in this rowing machine. I did my first 5k last earlier this week, and then did one each day after. I am hooked! The instant feedback, with all sorts of interesting date presented on the screen, makes working out on this rower a true joy. Today is my day off, but I will be making a stop by the training center to put in another 5k, and maybe a 500m and 2k time just for fun.

Looking back at the 2013 CF games, and the Row 1 and Row 2 times of the top finisher, JK, I am making a bold prediction. While I am only 2 weeks into my rowing 'career', I feel confident I can best all of the 'fittest' men on earth in the rowing department within the next few months. That is my goal at least. Thank you crossfit for introducing me to the C2 rowing machines, and I am sure my cadets thank you as well!

I guess I'm too much of a perfectionest. I did not count my reps if they were sloppy or not at the propper depth. Over head squats must be past parallel and I did not count my double under unless I actually did a double under.

OHS started from rack rather than floor due junk being sore from snatches a couple of days ago. I don't think that snatching rather than starting from rack would have added much/any time though. Not sure if I started from rack or floor last time.

We hosted George Ryan's CrossFit Striking Trainer Course a couple of years ago. It was a great learning experience, even for my buddy who owns the boxing gym next door.
As a very experienced boxing coach, he said he learned a lot from George Ryan.
I did also, and highly recommend this training!

DU really bad last 2 rounds. Very disapp, esp since OHS pretty easy. Done after lifting circuit w/Clay.
11/3/12:6:27
OHS not too bad. Caught in snatch. Still need to float arms better & land narrower. Fair amount of trouble w/DU, esp middle round. Couldn't get hand positioning right.
