Nobody likes "Eva," if someone says they do, then they're lying.

Ahh, the absolute worst of the girls. Give me Fran, or a heavy Fran, Kelly or Diane. Even FGB, but not Eva.

Can't wait for my 2.5 mile run with 150 KB swings and 150 pull ups. If rather do Murph. Here comes a 45 minute workout.

When a WOD says kettlebell swings, does it mean an American/ overhead swing by default? Or is it a Russian swing by default?

Comment #4 - Posted by: Johnny Wilson at October 16, 2013 7:03 PM

What's 2 pood? I understand what a kettle ball swing is, just not what 2 pood means.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Richard Vose at October 16, 2013 7:35 PM

34:32
1.5 pood

Comment #6 - Posted by: John at October 16, 2013 7:40 PM

Pood is a Russian measurement. 1 pood is 36 pounds. 2 is 72 pounds, etc .

Comment #7 - Posted by: Gavin at October 16, 2013 8:14 PM

@ Richard
2 pood is roughly 70/75 dumbell
@ Johnny I believe it is American--all the way up!
but anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Hopefully the knee is ok for this WOD. I'll come up with a decent sub if not.
Suggestions anyone?

Comment #8 - Posted by: Mike Andridge/43/5'8"/175 at October 16, 2013 8:16 PM

Eva Schick died while fighting fire in Stanislaus Nationsl Forrest in California , so remember when doing a hero wod the sacrifice they made. So it is not about sniveling I would rather do this than that. It's about accepting the wod and performing to best of your ability in honor of that hero.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Mark at October 16, 2013 8:19 PM

"Eva" refers to Eva Twardokens (sp?) the Olympic skier and one of the original crossfitters.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Denver Sheepdog at October 16, 2013 8:35 PM

Denver Sheepdog is correct. This WOD is named after one of the CF originals, Eva Twardokens.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Glorybelle (F/44/5'5/135) at October 16, 2013 9:32 PM

@johnny, default is American, overhead.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Ddog at October 16, 2013 9:39 PM

1. As has been stated, "Eva" is a girl, not a hero WOD. But that tells you something; it is brutal and probably the hardest girl WOD there is. It feels like. Hero WOD. It's Helen on steroids. Beginners would be wise to scale or even substitute Helen. Many beginners won't and will be looking at times of well over an hour. Be smart with this one.

2. Eva T is a tough and talented woman. Check out the YouTube video of her doing a strict muscle up on the beach. Also check out her personal website for inspiration.

3. The linked article is phenomenal! I work with special needs patients each day. CrossFit breeds independence in more ways than one.

4. The "Luke" WOD looks great. I'll be donating and can't wait to do it on Saturday. Go to the linked website and check out the scores from all the CF all-stars. Good motivation.

Did 600m but twice as many KBS and pull-ups last time in less time; seems like a lot of regression going on lately that is probably easily attributable to a number of factors in this season of my life, but is discouraging none-the-less.

#23/mom to five, I think your posting name says it all! I sometimes run into motivation issues; the body can do it, but the mind or will just isn't driving for that last little bit. Stick with it, do WODs you enjoy, and draw inspiration from others on the discussion board; the rest will follow. All the best!

Time - 1:01:21 (1 hr. 1 min. 21 sec.) I was going to self-impose a 1-hour limit, but was so close, I pushed through.
Notes:
1. 800M runs on treadmill due to imclement weather; used 3.0 incline to help compensate.
2. KB Swings as RX'd.
3. Pulls-ups: Round 1 as RX'd; Rounds 2-5 used band assist to maintain tempo.

That 70 pound kettle bell was fun to sling around. I've used it before a couple of times in workouts, but never over 20 swings so 150 slowed me down a lot. This was my first time doing this workout so lots of room for improvement.

This is my first week of Crossfit and still getting my feet wet. I did a modified Eva today.

2 rounds Crossfit warmup, then

4 rounds
- 800 meter run
- 30 KB swings at 35#
- 11 strict pullups

44:10

Quick question: How many kipping pullups equal a strict pullup? I don't have a bar set up at the gym to do a kipping or butterfly pullup....they are too low to ground.

Had to go up and down stairs to the treadmill at the gym so....

5 rounds for time:
Run 800m treadmill
Downstairs a whole floor
30 kb swing 1.5 pood
30 pull-ups
Upstairs a whole floor

Started praying for religion on 3rd round of running, died on 4th round, and during the 5th round of pull-ups in the after-life I realized Eva had just been laughing at me the whole time. So So I just went HAM

Hi,

I would like to ask a questions. I'm just starting crossfit training. What should I do if I can't do for example what is written in WOD? Ex: 30 pull-ups. Should I do maximum what I can, or there is a kind of percentage or number of reps?

@Ernie #97 - scale when you have to. On this particular WOD, I was able to go pull-ups as RX'd on the first round, but knew there was no way I'd finish, so I went to band assisted for rounds 2-5. You can also scale with a Gravitron (or like) machine when there's a large volume of pull-ups. Also, you can scale this WOD to Run 400M, KB swings @ 1.5 pood (53#-55#) x 30 reps. This one is easily scaleable to your fitness level. The important thing is to to something and keep moving forward.

I hate to admit that I had to quit this one after the 3rd Round. That's not really my style but I know when it's over. Not sure my food and hyrdration were up to par either, but I knocked out the 3 Rounds as prescribed in 30:something. I've been CF'ing for over 2 years and now have a goal, once again, to obtain. Happy and disappointed all at the same time. Never have I swung the 70 that much. Almost have my butterfly kipping down on the pullups, but those friggin runs really ping the outer ligaments in my knees and I cannot seem to fix it, or fight the pain but for so long. Really pisses me off. Typical CrossFit. :)

21 Oct 2013 effort below, slower in every regard.
RXd 44.04, slower by 4 min...

Splits:
Overal splits: 7.07-8.14-9.23-9.50-9.34

800M- 4.07-4.32-4.46-4.42-4.49...grass course, seemed about right, might have been a little long 10% per lap, which was about 400m.
KB-1.38-2.01-2.16-2.30-1.59 (at 70 lbs)
KB splits were 20,10-18,12-15,10,5-13,10,7-18,7,5..could have fought for these a little harder to keep in 2 sets.
PU-1.21-1.39-2.21-2.36-2.40. Grip strength was the weak link after rnd 2.
PU splits- 15,10,5-13,10,7-9,8,7,6-9,9,9,3-7-7,7,7,7,2
Overal splits: 7.07-8.14-9.23-9.50-9.34
M/39/185/5-10

EPIC...simply EPIC.

A great event by the whole Team. A tight grouping...mostly (good effort
there LTC)... with solid efforts all around.
Personally I am still coughing every few minutes from opening up Lung Sacks
I had not used in quite a while.

Final Results

LTC 47:15 scale to 1.75 Pood (almost there for RXd), a solid effort the
whole way. While the PU might have been sketchy getting the chin over the
bar, all 150 were done, which is a huge PR for LTC. Nicely done.

The Good Col- 42.33 RXd. I knew something was up when even a fellow O6 in
the locker room said, "My Pat, I don't think I have ever heard you so quite
with all this smack talking going around. Why is that?" The answer was
that the GC had his game face on and was looking to deliver a message that
he would not get doubled up this day. No matter what, after each 400m at
the turn, there he was, maybe giving some ground but always there, never
cracked. I figured the PU would do him in, but by golly he hung in there
each time. Well done there for a "big fella" with PU and a RUN, neither are
his strengths. Great job.

LT A: 41.52- RXd. Similarly was as constant as a metronome, I met her at the
same point plus or minus 30 yds, after each lap. Still had lots to give on
the last round of PU. She was right there with Corbin at the end. And
interestingly enough, not a single rubber band in sight as she cranked
through all 150 PU. LTC could certainly learn a thing or two on form from
"Big Hands" Abi.

LT C: 41:07- RXd. A great time. However there was a noticeable slip in the
Rnd times, the first two laps were about the same meeting place on the way
back from the run, but the last 3 laps the overall pace dropped off. Took
his ripped calluses off and kept moving on the PU though. Which are really
tough with long arms and knees that must be bent in order to not break a toe
while kipping. Would not let Abi catch him at PU, had to respect the effort
when Abi put the fear into him. Great job Team Dryden.

Carlos- great effort right out of the shoot. Wow! Fast runner, solid with
KB, kept moving in PU. However, ripped hands at #145 of 150 PU cost him and
allowed me to catch up while he did sets of 1. Great time of 38.53, scaled.

CDR A: 38:51, RXd, new PR. Last time 39.10 with 1.5 Pood and a 750m course.
Splits were as follows:

800m Run:3.47, 4.44, 4.37, 4.51, 4.37,
30 KB:1.42, 1.48, 1.54, 1.59, 1.47
30 PU:1.13, 1.24, 1.27, 1.32, 1.23
KB were 18-12, 18-12, 18-12, 16-9-5, 16-12-2
PU were 20-10, 15-10-5, 15-10-5, 12-8-10, 18-7-5.

While LT A maybe right that I was dogging the run, it sure as heck didn't
feel like it. If there had not been so many PU, I am sure y'all would have
beaten me today. I was lucky to hang on in the end. All in all a great
effort all around. I was really impressed the whole way. I am sure glad we
had the whole team for such a difficult WOD.

Well done there Varsity... and LTC :-)
