Thank You for the strength days

It's unrelated to todays workout, but I've been working on pullups non stop for the last four months. There's a beam in the hangar where the guys at work always do them and I always sneak off and see how close I am to doing one on it...and today I did a real one! And then did 9 more through the day. Highlight of my week, by far.

Comment #2 - Posted by: Deidre at September 13, 2013 7:25 PM

Congratultions, Deidre! That's rad and a HUGE accomplishment.

Deidre, that's awesome. Congratulations! :) It also took me about four months, just a little over. It feels so good to accomplish, doesn't it?!!

Back can't handle heavy squat cleans since the spine surgery, so a metcon with light weight for me:

5 rounds for time:
9/9 - 70# reverse lunges (front squat grip, knee to ground each rep)
9 - 70# front squats
9 - Jump squats
11:20 - reverse lunges = ouch!

2 minute break

21-15-9:
Muay Thai bag low kicks (21 right, 21 left, etc...)
10# Samson side bends (21 right, 21 left, etc...)
Curlups
5:40 - Sampsons surprisingly hard after the bag kicks.

Joe N, Happy Birthday! Celebrating w/ another PR, I see. I tweaked the back doing Annie a week ago or so and have been nursing it back with easy WODs...till today. I liked your comments on 9/11 amidst all the "this is too hard" angst.

did two 225# singles to get a couple extra reps in. really disappointed with this even though 235 is technically a PR for my 1 rep; my 3 rep PR is 250. Think I just lost my focus; I have a bit of a mental block with the squat clean.

Comment #59 - Posted by: Energizer Bunny at September 14, 2013 11:43 AM

Anyone have a good rule of thumb for what percentage of a 1RM front squat should predict your 1RM squat clean?

My 1RM front squat is 235#.

Today I hit a PR of 205# clean but I felt like I should be able to do more... I failed on 215# three times. Got under the bar with a clean rack, stood up about 33% of the way and just stopped. Frustrating as hell! Maybe start working on heavier 2rep or 3rep front squat workouts??

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!

left hand came off the bar on 215 and 225 - need to DRILL wrist/forearm/shoulder mobility for a better front rack! Definite improvement over 3 months ago. One of the million things I can thank CF for!

Ran 5k an hour or so beforehand so just quick warmup including some clean pulls @ 135. No food yet today and did this WOD at 11 in the morning so maybe this & 5k adversely affected results.

Pretty good job exploding when weight got to mid thighs. Didn't think much about getting knees back to keep back more parallel to floor.
