I just watched the WOD demo video from the compare to link and saw full squat cleans. You guys aren't kidding about the "three bars of death." Oh, how this will hurt. :)

I'm with #6. Just got one bar... Suggestions or just change the weights as fast as you can I guess.

Comment #10 - Posted by: JD at September 4, 2013 6:20 PM

I'm new to this. Is it all three lift for 10 reps then all three for 9 etc.. Or is it all if the dead lifts. Then all of the bench. Then all cleans?

Comment #11 - Posted by: AdamWeaver at September 4, 2013 7:38 PM

@Adam, you follow the instructions as listed don't overthink it. The set is deadlift, bench, clean. The reps per set are 10...1. 10 reps of each, then 9, etc until you reach 1 DL then 1 bench and 1 clean. Then you are done.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Gavin at September 4, 2013 7:51 PM

@LGM, pick the heaviest weight that you can do and stick with it for all the exercises. This won't match the metrics (1.5 BW or BW or .75 BW) but it will give you a good stimulus. It means you might be doing more for your clean than .75 BW and less for the deadlift than 1.5 BW. But you only have one bar, so there you go.

I'm new to crossfit, but no stranger to powerlifting. I've done 14 crossfit workouts in 16 days and my body is wasted, no clue how I'm going to get this done. Besides fish oil and protein, any suggestions on supplements that are consistent with crossfit? I think my preworkout supps might be hurting me.

Will need to scale this for sure, no way I want to do 55 deadlifts of 360lbs. So weak after my sickness, probably do body weight DL, 3/4 bench, 1/2 clean.

@TJones41, you said "I've done 14 crossfit workouts in 16 days and my body is wasted, no clue how I'm going to get this done."

My advice would be to NOT do it. What's the big deal? In 16 days you should have taken more than 2 rest days. Sack up and take a rest day. You aren't getting stronger or bigger or faster, you're just breaking your body down bit by bit.

Fish oil and protein aren't going to help if you don't give your body time to recover and rebuild. Your pre-workout supplements don't have anything to do with it.

TJones41,

That's a ton of work for someone just starting out in CrossFit. The prescription here on the Main Page is 3 days to workout, one day to rest. This is critical for someone new to CF. I write suggestions for newcomers each January and one of my stock suggestions is that someone new, even someone with an extensive athletic background, should consider even MORE rest. Your issue isn't about your supplements, it's about your volume, at least at this stage.

My bid? Back it down a bit. No more than 3 WODs before a Rest Day. Do this for the first couple of months and then evaluate your goals and how CF will help you achieve them.

Welcome aboard. Fasten your seatbelt.

First time doing Linda... Holy crap...

@Tj
I am new to this too. I do the rest day after 3 WODs. Usually i work on my technique as well as a 2nd work out and/or on rest days. I concentrate on movement and keep it all light and aerobic. That way the blood and all the nutritions it carries with it come to the muscle. All the bad stuff gets carried away as well. I do keep one day in 9-10days where i do absolutely nothing. Besides that, every 8 weeks, i take a week off to let all the tendons and ligaments heal up. Of course nutrition is a big factor as well!

Well, enjoy the aches, they're free!!

DL 230# (10 short of rx, but all the weight I have), all unbroken
Bench 160#, unbroken after the round of 6
Squat cleans 120#, unbroken after the round of 6

50:43 using one bar
Clearly I shoulda scaled, as I am completely spent, but it felt good to be oh so close to rx. A great WOD!

#13/Gavin, don't know if your response is an official CF answer or yours, but I disagree...I had PLENTY of stimulus even while changing the weights continuously.

Don't know how I'm going to do Griff after this...

This was our first WOD together. Trying to motivate, spot, and coach each other. Obviously, we REALLY scaled back on weight, but we wanted to focus on form. Do we have the right idea getting started light weight, or did we overdo scaling back that much? Feedback would be much appreciated.. Thanks!

Creative scaling... only one bar.

190lb Deadlift (Complete then 90lbs off bar)
130lb Bench (65lb Dumbbells)
100lb Cleans (Complete add 90lbs to bar)

22:53 (next time make it 200DL and 110 cleans)

the weight changes add a great deal of time over 10 rounds!

M35/190

This took forever in a regular gym. Switching plates and trying to get back to the bench before someone else got there (had to wait twice) and pandora kept playing garbage songs and killing my moto. The worst thing about doing this at the gym I go to is not being able to drop the weights. Catching the cleans is not fun after a while. I have a garage gym but no rack and bench yet. Can't wait to try this again fully geared up.

No real barbells here, just homemade stuff with concrete and pipes.

- I used (approximately) 100kg bar for the HEALTHlift, which is 1 1/3 bodyweight.
- Big slosh tube full of water for the bench press, laying on a tractor tire for my bench.
- The cleans were done with a 50lb bar and I hung two car tires on the ends of it. Awkward way to get the extra weight.

epic fail. I gassed and people started crowding my clean area.

took me about 25 minutes to do 10-9-8 on all three lifts and then 7-5 on on deadlift/bench press then I started at 5 and worked my way down between deadlift and bench. and then did 10 reps of clean since there was room by then. Should have paced myself. Time doesn't matter if you can't do the whole workout.

59:52 as rx'd.

Deadlift: 275#
Bench press: 185#
Squat clean: 135#

Felt like stopping midway through round of 10. Wasn't feeling it. Mentally a tough wod. Only 2 bars so lots of time wasted changing weights and stressing the lower back being bent over too much!

36:46 (M 6'2 189lb) DL 225lb(95%), B 185lb(98%), Sq Cln 135lb(95%)
Found squat cleans hardest followed by bench and DL. Next time don't break up cleans so much.

Swapping plates between DLs and cleans. Way too long, need a third bar
240 DL
160 Bench
120 Clean
