Does anyone know the significance behind the "7" strict pull ups and the 400m run for the hotshots19 wod? I understand the 6, 30, and 19, but can't figure out the other two. Thanks!

Did this one last night!!

8:33 abmat, unanchored feet.

Smashed 3 minutes off my previous PB with an abmat. Getting closer and closer to getting 50 and 40 double unders unbroken.

Could not be happier with this result!!

Kevin C, that's fast! I was in the 8 min range last time, w/ jump and tucks so I never miss.

Anyone, is there an advantage to unanchored sit ups?

Ran 5.6 miles then WOD
subbed tuck jumps for DUs today and last time
unanchored sit ups today vs anchored on ghd last time

13:55 today vs 18:25 on 130606

Comment #38 - Posted by: Glorybelle (F/44/5'5/134) at August 29, 2013 6:38 AM

Kevin C. - you and Carole always set the bar high for this one, nice work!

Jim R. - My understanding is that unanchored sit-ups simply take your legs out of the equation, the same way that butterfly sit-ups prevent you from using your hip flexors. Anchored sit-ups are faster though, right?

Glorybelle - awesome improvement! You've been making some great strides lately

murphinator - thanks! Aside from what you've probably already heard a hundred times about getting better at DUs (practice, practice, practice), I can tell you the three things I think about:

1) "Start Singles": I do one or two singles at the start of the set to get the timing, then add the double spin. Maybe this will get easier with time, but I tend to miss when I try to do a DU right out of the gate
2) "Chin up": I tend to let my back arch, so keeping my chin up helps me maintain a vertical body position
3) "Hands down": This helps me keep my elbows close to the body use proper wrist motion, instead of letting my hands drift up and away from my body

Hope this helps!

Joe Northside - big help; i just watched a vid on doubles last night and my take away was palms down or inward instead of up; try to whip the ground in front. going to try that. they also mentioned vertical body position. i can do singles and mix in a few doubles bouncing back and forth between doubles and single, but I just have not been able to string together multiple doubles yet.

Dan Bailey can do the work of 4 people and was 8th in the Games. That tells you something about the 7 dudes ahead of him.

Don't know if I can tackle this WOD today. Really want to but bruised my heel doing DUs last week and it still hurts to walk.

Did the first 50 double unders but during the next 40 I kept messing up so I did 20 doubles then 60 singles. Finished the rest by doing singles at 3 to 1. After I was done I found that by adjusting the length of the cable on my speed rope, I found a rhythm. I did all the double unders and sit ups again and was just as fast if not faster the second time.

What got me over the top with DUs was to do singles but jump as if I was doing a double under. This helped me get the feeling of the timing needed. I'd do about 20 and then go for some DUs.

In the old days, bells were used as signals in the fire service. 5 bells was the signal for returning to quarters after a call. In the spirit of tradition, the 4 sets of 5 bells are used at firefighter line of duty death funerals to signal that the fallen firefighter(s) has returned home for the final time.

M/ 39/ 135 lbs/ 5'-6"
I did this post a low box squat WOD
I did this Rx: 4:35
I hadn't done it in a while and was fun.
I looked at my previous few reseults and I'm typically around this time maybe anywhere from 4:20 - 4:40
I did get I think below 4 a couple times but that's a mission and you have to be willing to hurt pretty much and not miss any on the DUs. I don't think that there's a difference in fitness but a little luck in not missing and there is a desire to push a little extra hard... depends on how you treat it. I typically treat this WOD as a fun fast burner... and I DO NOT want to go over 4:45 and I DO want to get less than 4:30.
I don't really do Annie as a stand alone WOD
It's too short and doesn't tax me enough
I don't mean that to say that when I do it it's not a good tax on the body, just for me, bodyweigth movements are something I'm pretty good at and DUs are really something to kind of relax and catch your breath a bit.
I usually do this as a post WOD to get my heartrate up after a heavier static WOD like maybe heavy DL or heavy BS, etc.

Done after SP & DL portion of CFT & weighted pullups.
8:01. DU not too bad, esp after 1st 50. Few messups that weren't fatigue related on 30's. May have done 10 extra situps on 40 round, but went conservative. About 80% sure I counted correctly.
6/6/13:7:03-PR. Didn't realize this beforehand. Thought PR in sub 7. Stumbled on DU in first couple of rounds a few times. Good job pushing on situps.
2/17/11: 8:08 DU best ever.Think only 2 breaks in 50's once I got rhythm going. 1 break in 40's. 30's unbroken.
Situps-unanchored. Used a couple beach towels for ab mat.
