Comment #1 - Posted by: Gavin at August 15, 2013 5:17 PM

I'm sorry if this is obvious to everyone but me, but even after looking back at the "compare" WOD comments, I am still unsure if this WOD is RX'd as 21 with the right side, then 21 with the left side, then 21 Sots, 15 with the right side...

Or if it is 11 with the right and 10 with the left, 21 Sots, 8 right and 7 left, 15 Sots... THX

Comment #2 - Posted by: Roy at August 15, 2013 6:30 PM

What brand are those camo shorts?

Comment #3 - Posted by: Ian at August 15, 2013 7:12 PM

It's my understanding that its total reps, alternating between each arm, but could be wrong. So 11 on one arm, 10 on the other. Start the next round with the opposite arm you ended on.

Shorts are made by 2POOD. I have 3 pairs of their shorts. V3's are my favorite, but also like the Multicams. I have to admit though, that I've been loving the Lululemon Core Shorts. Picked up a pair of black camo in Dallas a few weeks ago, awesome shorts.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Jason at August 15, 2013 7:46 PM

#2/Roy, I'm pretty sure its 45 total TGUs and 45 Sots press, broken up as described.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Jim R. 50/5'8"/160 at August 15, 2013 7:57 PM

So we do the Turkish getup with the bb????
Or is it with a 44# KB ?

Comment #6 - Posted by: Taylor at August 15, 2013 8:16 PM

@Taylor, Rx is barbell. Some sub with KB or DB though.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Glorybelle (F/44/5'5/134) at August 15, 2013 8:47 PM

@Jim R and Jason, you're right.
Tony Budding commented in the Compare To thread saying the following was correct:
It should be 21 total TGU alternating arms, not 21 each arm. Follow with 21 Sotts presses with snatch grip.
Repeat couplet at each 15 and 9 reps.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Glorybelle (F/44/5'5/134) at August 15, 2013 9:23 PM

@Roy
dont start every time with the same hand, actually you should be starting with your weaker arm, in case you are left handed it would be your right arm (most right handed people consider left arm the weaker one and vice versa)

Good WOD, I'll post time later

Too confused by this one and it's too early, so I hit a random WOD.

51 pullups
51 pushup
Bike 2 min.
51 situps
51 squats

As usual, the pullups are the cause of the slow down. Basement bar is a a bit too close to the wall for a full kip. Really need to get a bar in the garage rafters.

First time doing these 2 ( TGU& SOTS )- and OMG, the TGUs are so difficult- i know my technique is non existent atm, but still, i didnt expect them to be so difficult...
and my time was 25:30 TGU- with a 29pound DB, SOTS- with a 40 pound BB ( for the TGU- that would be the maximum i can get done atm, and the SOTS were really not that difficult at all)

A true Sot Press named after Vikto Sot is a Front Squat and a press over head from the ATG front squat position. The behind the neck version is a step down for less mobile shoulders and hips.

Viktor could press 160kg, from a ATG front squat position. He also was the first WL to use the Power Jerk in competition. David Rigert says that this is the new future of jerking. Power jerking is not as low as squat jerking.

Sot and Sot press explained.

Forgot to set my alarm this am, so will hit this one after work. I tried to do a few of each of these last night and it was pathetic. This will be a good example of scaling and working on weaknesses. I can't stand WODs like this, but thanks to HQ for forcing us out of comfort zones.

Comment #40 - Posted by: Bryan at August 16, 2013 8:21 AM

On working out in the heat: my answer is don't. All my workouts are outside--if it's above 105 deg, I know I'm going to have trouble.

So, from May-Oct, I'm up at 5 am when the temp is (usually) down in the 80's. If I have to workout in the afternoon or evening, I go for full immersion, either jump in the pool between rounds or hose down completely.

The key thing is to know when it's too much and break, cool down, & hydrate. But really, avoid the heat if you can.

Turkish getups very awkward.
And why is SOTS press so hard? It's just a shoulder press in a squat. What's hard about that?

I read these comments often but have never posted. On June 30 of this year, I went head over handle bars on a 4 wheeler. No bones were broken, by the grace of God, but the recovery has been slow. For the first 3 days, I had to use a walker just to get around. Just this last week, I was able to start running again. Today was the first WOD since the injury. I was totally spent and couldn't do it as RX'd...but it was the most satisfying WOD of my life. Afterwards, I lay on the floor, trying not to puke, but smiling and rejoicing. My time was about 3-4 minutes faster than I posted but I was so exhausted that I forgot to look at the clock for a bit. I'M BACK IN THE GAME CROSSFITTER'S.

Round 1 (11:30) was mentally tough, totally underestimated the time needed for this one. Sots press was the easy part, but barbell TGUs went surprisingly smooth. I couldn't find a way to switch the barbell from hand to hand efficiently and would like to see a video how to do it.

Fun WOD. TGUs went more smoothly than last time. Did them 15-6 / 10-5 / 9. Had to do some mobility pre-WOD to get ready for Sots presses - those are tough for me. Did them 10-6-5 / 10-5 / 7-1-1 - shoulders were burning by the end.

Thought the barbell might be too much for me but it actually seemed kind of easier than a 45# dumbbell. Grip went way off to the ends of the barbell for the sots press (kind of like what happens on my OHS). Tough WOD but should be able to beat this next time.

Super slow. This was an early morning WOD and my shoulders have been a bit tight and sore lately. Ever since I got rolled in a big wave last week at the beach and did 2 WODs that day as well.

With a 45 pound barbell, 21-15- and 9 reps for time of:
Turkish Get-ups, alternating arms
Sots press

I did this and was super tight... I warmed up for about 30 minutes and still felt like I would have preferred a little more time.
I felt like I might have pulled something in my left hip while warming up, but it went away and was o.k. to workout.
MUCH harder and longer than I thought it would be.
About 17:50

I think I should have done more reps for warmups and also done heavier reps for warmups... so when I did the initial round of 21 it would go faster and feel lighter.
Sots press went better than I thought. I was feeling better as the WOD went on.
Great workout. You have to stay tight and keep on moving. I was just keep on going, with not many long breaks, but slow and steady. TGUs always zap me especially higher rep WODs with TGUs.
