I guess there is an article that says you can't have intensity in a garage and that you have to CrossFit at a "box" I just want to say that everyone who posts here on the mainsite is an inspiration to me and ups my intensity. All the newbs, the pros, the young ones, middle aged(me) and the veterans. I just wanted to say "thank you" to all of you. It pushes me to better myself.

I "met" Shari online back in '06 when we both blogged about running, and it was through her that I'd also learned about CrossFit. We'd encourage each other via our blogs, and reading about her fitness kept me motivated. I always knew she was a survivor and genuine and therefore have been a fan ever since. Cheers to you, Shari!

@Mike, I concur, and same to you. I've already donated to Hot Shots and can't wait to do the WOD in their honor on the 31st.

Love that she's doing the HSPUs on 'Illustrated Stories from the Book of Mormon.' I grew up reading those and listening to the tapes. She must be concerned about spiritual fitness as well as physical.

@#1 Mike - haven't seen that article, but I don't feel a lack of intensity in my basement/garage/under-the-back porch/back yard gym. This site keeps me motivated and enjoy virtually competing against the other "old guys". Since January, I've lost 27 lbs.and 4 inches in my waist, lowered my cholesterol, blood pressure, and improved in almost every strength and carido area. Thanks to the Crossfit Main Site and eating paleo for significantly improving my life!

Amazing story on Shari. Very much an uplifting moment watching that while at work. I wonder how many more like her exist within the realm of our CF community. Is there a place where people submit ideas to HQ for videos like this based on people we know?

A Truly inspiring story... I'm a big fan of life stories, there tragedies, and the power to overcome with a Victory. Too often in life are we fed the life is a bowl of cherries crap.
@ Mike, It's generally true that working out with someone may push you beyond that which you are capable, and some people need this. Just like with the open, turn on that video recorder and watch how hard you go! Each of those WODs killed me for a week. This was solely due to that competitive intensity with which it brings on. That being said, I believe there is a higher level of CF that can be achieved working out alone in your home box. It’s easy to compete against someone; it’s very hard to compete against oneself. Learning to fight off the brain demons during a WOD is a workout all in itself I think some of the best games competitors demonstrate this as most started out in a home box or working out alone. A WOD is as much mental as it is physical. The physical is the easy part; the mental is where the games are won. I’m not knocking boxes; I have toyed with the idea of opening one, just my personal thoughts…..

@Mike

I was also a bit peeved that CrossFit would say doing it a box is superior to doing it on your own. I started at a box and now that I just do it on my own I find my intensity is pretty much the same but my resolve has gotten so much stronger, you don't get that from having a cheer team

Not to say that I dislike or have anything against boxes... I'm just frugal!
