Yeaaaa buddy did some extra 5-5-5-5-5 dead lifts an clean an jerks today after the10 rounds 7 burpies an 7 knee to elbows. Get them legs bigger!!!! Still fairly new but loving crossfit!

Used parallel bars for dips, otherwise as rxd with the exception of losing my wedding ring after set 5 of sumos, then found after a full min of searching and finishing my last set if dips. 12:38. Damn I don't know which activity got my heart rate up more.

#19 On cleans, your pull should never ever look like a SDLHP, your elbows should always stay at or below shoulder level. Even a strong front rack position still has the elbows even with the shoulders not above as in the SDLHP. As for snathces, the wider grip puts the shoulder in a much better position for a pull where the elbows raise above the shoulders. A SDLHP, perfectly executed, is a great exercise but under heavy load and questionable form, it can be bad and certainly should not look like your clean or snatch pulls.

@comment 18- I've read upright rows are a "never do" for shoulder as the movement is performed usually with shoulders rolled fwd which is a bad place to be when under stress. I think SDLHP could be a bit different if done right. If during the pull portion the athlete is pulling shoulders back and down (squeezing shoulder blades together) this could be shoulder safe and maybe shoulder friendly as it would strengthen the muscles that help keep the shoulder in its happy place?

I do dips in my warmup every day and thought I was reasonably good at them. Wrong.

Fixed dips--no rings.
Scaled back to 15 after the first two rounds. (Still 21 on SDHP).

Tks Joe and Bill. This WOD was in my wheelhouse, and I was careful to count rounds this time, though I'm sure my dip form suffered later in the WOD. I'm sure our roles will return to their normal order tomorrow!

Regards SDHP and shoulder health: I have terrible shoulders, but SDHPs have never hurt mine (of course they can get injured in many places!). Though I see how the SDHP can injure the shoulder, its a great all-body exercise, and HQ rarely (ever?) calls for heavy weight.

Good form on both exercises. Ring dips in hollow position with turn out on top.

All rounds broken in 2 or 3 sets for SDHPs and 2 to 5 sets for ring dips.

Done after Wendler strength WODs-back squats (5X3 to get main site WOD in as well) & shoulder presses along w/squat burnouts.
Ring dips esp tough. Keep wrists forward on SDHP. Kipped on dips, but need to have rings @ PU bar. Power tower too cumbersome.
