My 4-rep-max has been 132, how much should I deadlift for this WOD?

Comment #6 - Posted by: Kendy at June 24, 2013 7:32 PM

Kendy, entirely up to what you feel comfortable with but I would do a weight i could go unbroken for the first 1 or 2 sets with, then maybe 2-2-1 for the last 3 sets... so maybe 85-105lbs?
Good luck!

But remember to make it a challenging weight but not to challenging cuz the workout should be a sprint so don't go to heavy

Unfortunately somewhere between CrossFit and soccer I got a hernia. I recall doing heavy dead lifts the week it happened but I felt something happen during a soccer game. It took 8 weeks to finally confirm it was a hernia. Surgery will be 3rd week of July. I'm somewhat nervous about getting back into CrossFit, especially dead lifting. I'm 46 years old and weigh around 157 lbs. four years ago before CrossFit I weighed 230 lbs.

205 DL and abmat sit ups - 13:48

Could of gone 215 or 225 in hindsight. But still working to regain my strength. abmat sit ups were harder than expected.

I feel like I am climbing my way out of the depression. For almost 2 months I felt like I was drowning, then about 2 weeks ago I felt like I was treading water, and now I feel like I am doing the doggy paddle. Hope to be using better strokes soon. Thankful for the support I have received from various communities in my life. Hope you all have a great day

sit ups got pretty sluggish after the second set. are you supposed to use an ab mat on top of a floor mat/pad? every time I use one on the bare ground, I get what likens to a rug burn near my coccyx(tailbone).

05:30 rx'd sit ups where so much harder than i expected them to be. Today it's been two months since i started crossfit, i love it now its time to measure my improvement, coming from a weightlifting/bodybuilding style to crossfit i have learned that strength alone is nothing, when you have a combination of skill, strength and performance then you can say. Im fit, for fitness is the true definition of strength.

No barbell at hotel, so I subbed dumbbell deadlifts

Used 50# dumbbells each hand for last three sets of 5.
That was the heaviest weight they had but probably couldn't have handled 60# each hand without sacrificing form.

30:00 cool down elliptical.

@Meg #107, main site stopped posting women's weight on the WODs, since everything is meant to be scaled regardless of gender.

What's your 1 RM for the DL? That's a good place to start and then work backwards. Seems this one should take you anywhere from 6-10 minutes. If you are a lot quicker the weight is too light.

Switched it up a bit - did:

Five rounds for time of:
275 pound Deadlift, 5 reps
10 Ring Dips

As rx'd, 3:34.

My buddy came over to test his 1RM bench press today, so I worked in with him, and was able to get 260, which ties my all-time PR - set 14 years ago when I was 26. Narrowly missed 265. The metcon was short and sweet. Deadlifts were just heavy enough to make you not want to pick up the bar in later rounds. Went unbroken on ring dips through 2 rounds, then 5-5, 5-3-2, and a lot of singles in the last round. I do love these short ones - they're over before you realize they hurt.

Comment #130 - Posted by: Mel 40/m/5'10"/175 at June 25, 2013 11:49 AM

I have 150lbs of weight. So, I multiplied 275lbsx5 and divided by 150lbs so that I could hit the same volume at least. It worked out to 10 reps @150lbs for the dead lift

As Rx'd 8:43

No barbell at hotel. Subbed 50# dumbbells in each hand to do dumbbell deadlifts. They didn't have a higher weight.

9 minutes, some odd seconds. The sit ups slowed me down more than the deadlifts.

Did 45:00 elliptical, some for warm up and other for cool down.

Love deads. Love em even more when they treat repaired right biceps nicely and go up smoothly for 5x5.

- warmup - lunge, spider, passthrus, DL 95, 115, 135 x 5; then 9-7-5 of HSPU smith bar to 5", grav dips + 50# help = 2:08

5 rft of DL 155#, 10 sit-ups, 15 push-ups = 6:24

Shied away from doing 25 situps as rx'd because of ab-DOMS from FS-GHD workout Friday and FGB on Sunday. Cost a bit of time but saved more DOMS -- the kind of tradeoff I need to make.

@spencer #180 lots of good reasons for folks to scale this and other workouts - injury and lack of strength probably at the top of the list.

Still working on the right Deadlift technique (w/o any belt), so scaled to 50% (135lbs)

Five rounds for time of:
185 pound Deadlift, 5 reps
25 Sit-ups

6:14

*i could have gone heavier and still had a good time since the sit-ups were the limiting factor. scaled too much.
