@ Erik #76 yesterday, Thanks for the suggested substitute for rowing I definitely will choose that over SDHP when I feel like foregoing rows. I gave it a try and I think it is a better workout/more similar to rows, and it doesn't strain my shoulders which have been operated on a few times so an added bonus.

Not sure if you will see it on yesterday's postings.

@ 5

You do 50 Double-unders, then 50 sit-ups, then you repeat this cycle for 40/40, 30/30, ect.

@8

First complete 50 doubleunders (or 100 single unders if double unders take you a while) and then immediately do 50 situps. When you finish the situps go back to 40 doubleunders (80 single unders), then 40 situps. Continue to knock out double unders and situps at 30 reps, 20 reps, and finally at 10. Time stops after your 10th situp.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Sutton Ward M/23/70"/175# at June 6, 2013 1:29 AM

FYI for the folks without double unders yet, if you're subbing singles, then you should at least triple them. The FAQ suggests tuck jumps:

http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#Substitutions11

But be warned, I got knee issues after doing them. I could have been doing the, wrong off course. The FAQ is right in that multiple singles are no where near as demanding as doubles.

If you sub, make sure not to go too low in the tuck jump, like you see in some of the videos online.
Per the FAQ: "Bend your knees and lower your body down 8-12 inches." (That's not below parallel). "Explode into the air and bring your knees up to your chest in a tucked position. Upon landing, your feet should be in a strong, dorsi flexed or "toes up" position. Use your whole foot to generate power, not just your toes! Maintain good posture in your upper body. Keep your chest and head up."

all unbroken

50's 1:46 - 1.06 seconds per rep
40's 1:42 - 1.28 spr
30's 1:15 - 1.25 spr
20's 0:56 - 1.40 spr
10's 0:31 - 1.55 spr

I think the 40's are negatively impacted by fatigue, 20's and 10's likely more impact from transition times.

Maybe a bit rude for a motivation site, but here it is. If you can only do one double under at a time then keep going by ones, singles will help you improve for practice but aren't helping you by subbing it in for du's. My time is slow because as with the others in the same time frame the doubles are a work in progress. I know I'm not going to get close to under 10 yet but big deal personal improvement is more important than putting up low times. If you can't do a movement well, work at it till you can, don't sub it out. *steps off soap box

Comment #79 - Posted by: Roscoe/30/M/185/5'10" at June 6, 2013 10:39 AM

Rx'ed (unanchored situps on mat):

8:51

First time (Feb. 2008)
subbed box jumps for double unders
18:57 (think the sit-ups were anchored w/ DBs)

Second time as rx'ed (w/ unanchored sit-ups): 19:33

Third time (2010) as rx'ed (towel on bb court): ~18

So I guess I've finally learned how to do DUs.

@48

In the WOD demo, speal is using an anchor for his feet which would make you faster, and considerably stregnthen ur core since oneside is stable. However, if u not anchoring ur feet and doing butterfly su's, you can slightly raise a foot off the ground ( while laying on ur back) then throw it down and slightly forward to initiate momentum as you come up. Also kip with your arms and try to get them closer to ur center of gravity; dont keep your hands behind ur head.Takes a little getting use to, but makes the su faster for me.
