Dan is by far the best crossfit actor we have seen yet... its not even close. he stayed in character the whole time! Everyone else smiles when they should be serious! Dan is a freaking good actor. Props!!

Comment #3 - Posted by: Chris Aubs at June 4, 2013 5:26 PM

I have started going to a new gym and the row machine doesnt have a display on it. How any pulls is it to 250m?

Comment #4 - Posted by: Tim 32 5'6" 170 at June 4, 2013 6:09 PM

Any sub for the rowing?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Baron at June 4, 2013 6:29 PM

That Yo! MTV Raps shirt is priceless

Comment #6 - Posted by: Champions Club at June 4, 2013 6:35 PM

If you don't have a rower substitute sumo-dealift high pulls (sdhp) with 45 pounds for men and 30 pounds for women. Take the bar from mid shin to under your chin--"shin to chin."
2K row = 200 sdhp's, 1K row = 100 sdhp's, 500 meter row = 50 sdhp's

Comment #7 - Posted by: G at June 4, 2013 6:41 PM

That was seriously the funniest video I've seen in a long time.

i am coming for you Rich baby. lol.

Comment #10 - Posted by: cris at June 4, 2013 7:29 PM

@ Tim - 10m per stroke on the rower is a standard so ~25 pulls for 250m

Comment #11 - Posted by: GRM at June 4, 2013 8:22 PM

The rowing was fairly consistent but the time for 25 PU had more than doubled by the end. Could no longer do 25 in one go.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Jeff at June 4, 2013 9:19 PM

10.5 rnds

1/2 round was starting with 25 push-ups

Comment #17 - Posted by: Sanjo Monster at June 4, 2013 9:40 PM

#14/Jeff, ring push ups are harder and a better workout, so have at it. Harder to compare yourself to others, though, if you care about that.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Jim R. M/50/5'8"/160 at June 4, 2013 10:02 PM

@ Tim / #4 - 10m per rowing stroke is a fairly standard approximation. Means 25 should see your 250m.

Comment #19 - Posted by: GRM at June 4, 2013 10:17 PM

Rx 6 + row

Great video Dan! Hilarious. Good luck!

Comment #24 - Posted by: Ron at June 4, 2013 11:05 PM

I'm substituting row for sdhp but dont think I'll benefit from burning myself out with 25 full push ups per round.

What would be better?

1, reduce the rep count to 10.
2, keep the 25 and do push ups on my knees.
3, do as many full ones as possible then changing to knees once burnt out.

Comment #25 - Posted by: Barry at June 5, 2013 12:09 AM

#15 and 20/Jeff, something else--consider the effect ring push ups will have on the total amount of work you do. With ring push ups you are likely to do at least 2 fewer rounds than with standard push ups, meaning you are likely to row at least 500m less w/ that sub, plus doing a lower overall # of push ups.

That was a great video, Dan.

I am new to crossfit (i started monday). I didn't have a row machine available so i substituted it with 2 minutes of stair runs. I felt like i was going to die. I had to do most of the pushups on my knees. I had to walk the last of my stair runs. But i am here and drenched in sweat and it feels awesome to have done 6 rounds in 20 minutes! So glad I decided to do crossfit this summer!

Nice work @D.S. and Emma!

Comment #76 - Posted by: Glorybelle (F/43/5'5/135) at June 5, 2013 8:36 AM

The best sub for rowing:

10 reps of a light deadlift (95lbs) followed by 10 reps of air squats to approximate a 250m row.

Do these methodically and under control, aiming for about 1 minute to complete the deadlifts and squats. This is not a time to spaz out.

Here is my reasoning:
for a 2:00/500m pace, the average force through the drive is approximately 100lbf with a higher peak force while the legs are driving.

The 45lb SDHP does not give the same amount of work to the legs as rowing and is associated with shoulder impingement injuries because of the internally rotated arm position at the top. In fact many boxes are programming the SDHP infrequently now, but that's another story.

WOD
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
Row 250 meters
25 Push-ups

after 2 rounds, had to switch to doing .15 miles on an elliptical when someone jumped in on the rower.

4 rounds plus .11 miles. The elliptical covers the distance a lot slower, but damn I am a long way from you 10 round beasts.

I would have liked this workout much more if it had twice the rowing and half the pushups.

Pushups done in sets of 2 by the end of each set.

Rowing was surprisingly painful due to trying out our new GHD sit up set up that my husband put together the other day.

Comment #146 - Posted by: Baron at June 5, 2013 3:54 PM

Awesome rounds especially from the master crossfitters.
Way to go Carole, glad to see Doug is back in town. You too Kevin C.

Bill M, I was the regular weights/ powerlifter/aerobic person for years. I spent several months reading and researching this website before I would attempt a go at crossfit.
My first cfwo was the filthy fifty. I knew I was strong enough and fit enough to do it. Took me 31 minutes to finish. That was about average or slighly below average. I was hooked after that.
Find a workout that will challenge your wife.
Take the crossfit challenge for a week. She can always go back to the regular stuff.
This was the change I needed and that was over 5 years ago. I am still here.

As a team my hubby and I did alternated rowing and push ups. Whoever rowed controlled the time for push ups. Any 'extra' push-ups (past the 25) were 'given' to the next and continued throughout the 20 mins. Ending up with 14 rounds of rows and 15 rounds worth of push ups!

So, me and my partner altered the WOD. One guy does 25 hand-release push-ups, the other guy rows until the push-ups are done, signaled with a burpee stand-up. Keep track of the distances. Complete the last rep to even up the sets after the 20 minutes expires.

Furthest distance over the 20 minutes+ wins. Kick-ass WOD.

I did 4 rounds plus another 250m row and 16 pushups. I finished the remaining 9 after time.

I decided to really focus on picture perfect pushups for every single rep....controlled, all the way down to the deck, back flat, etc.

I know that in the short-run 4+ rounds "looks" bad, but I know that in the long run, my pushup skills will vastly improve if I do every pushup with perfect technique from here on out, no matter how tempting or easy it could have been to do 8+ rounds with less than stellar technique

My stupid iphone reset my lap count but I believe I got 7 or 8.

I'm horrible at push ups and had to sub with girl push ups half way through.

How do I get my chest endurance up? Killed it on the rowing. Ill admit my chest is my weakest link.

Decent pace on row. Sub 1:50/500 all the way through. Pushups really pathetic. Only got to 8 or so on later rounds then broken to 3's for most part, then 2's & 1's on last round.
12/3/11: 8 rounds + row & 20 pushups.
