Comment #4 - Posted by: Bran at May 20, 2013 5:41 PM

At #2:

Instead of jumping in the air in the burpee, you jump over the bar you're using for the thrusters.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Tim at May 20, 2013 5:51 PM

A burped with your head closest to the thruster bar and feet
Furthest away when you're face down on the floor. Stand up, hop over the bar, turn around and do a burpee on that side of the bar (facing it). No need to clap your hands overhead on each rep,b but you should hop over the bar with both feet, at the same time, and not step over.

The Hero workouts are very apt and an excellent way for the Crossfit community to honor those who fall in combat.

I think that a different type of Hero workout would be also be appropriate .I was thinking of honouring those who perform daily miracles by saving lives on the operating table or in A & E units in hospitals. In particular I was thinking of those whose skills will save children's lives in hospitals.
Thank you.

I agree with you that there are many occupations that have heroes. However, since CrossFit is geared toward functional fitness in regard to law enforcement, firefighters and military, it seems appropriate that "Hero" WODs are dedicated to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Was doing great first got the 10 thruster and 15 burpees in 1:40
was around 7:00 when I got near end of 20 thru -25 burp
took me the last 10 minutes for the 25 thru - 30 burp

What slowed me down was the thrusters. COuld only do like 5 or 6 at a time at the end.
Oh well . will do this again in the future and hope to smash my time.

My name is Rob. I have been crossfitting since 2004. I am still a main site guy and probably always will be. Crossfit has been a great thing in my life. I have used it for myself, my family, my friends, and my fire department. So first off, thank you Greg Glassman and the crossfit staff community.

I am a 46 year old male and find myself in the middle of another battle of clinical depression. If you have never dealt with this or someone who suffers from it, good. When depressed it is like there is dark cloud pushing down on you and all the things you normally love to do are very difficult. You have to disregard what you feel and do the opposite. Easier said than done.

So why am I posting this personal information today. While today i made myself do Omar rx. It was miserable, my times are not even close to PR's, but my desire, right now is to finish. Often times I feel like I hear from God during my workouts because my mind actually quiets itself. I sensed that I was supposed to share this with this community and ask for prayers and support. My goal is to finish workouts for the next 30 days. I believe that is one piece in my recovery from depression.

Those of you who are struggling in any way I pray that you may find peace and contentment from Jesus through whatever hardship you may be experiencing. If nobody finds it offensive I hope to post for the next 30 days as I get through this season. God Bless all of you

Rob

Rob Hole: Thank you for sharing. I was depressed as you are now a year ago. I used medicine for my depression. In february last year I started doing crossfit. 8 months later I could get off the medicine and I am now on my 6th month off medicine and doing very well. Crossfit is what got me out of depression. If you finish your workouts for the next 30 days you will feel a lot better. Then keep working out and you will literally muscle your way out of depression.

I did RX for women, 65 lbs. Time 21:37.

As Rx 12:15
For time:
95 pound barbell Thrusters, 10
15 Bar-facing burpees
95 pound barbell Thrusters, 20
25 Bar-facing burpees
95 pound barbell Thrusters, 30
35 Bar-facing burpees
I did this during my lunch hour at Mid City, as Rx:
I had a bit of a nagging lower back pull, so I wasn't going too crazy and stayed within myself.
I broke up the 20: 9,7,4

30: 8,6,7,6,3
I basically did the bar facing burpees, somewhat laterally over the bar but legit. It actually gassed me a lot more than I thought it would.
I wore my wrist wraps also because my wrists were also nagging me with the changing weather this whole week.
Good WOD. I was definitely gassed a bit with this one. Thrusters felt o.k. but after about 8 or 9 I was taking breaks to minimize how long the breaks would be and keep on going. I was actually concerned about my back because my midline is so sore still from that last 7 minute AMRAP I did a couple days ago and I didn't want to lose my midline stability on the thrusters if my stomach was so sore.. but it was all fine.

Comment #310 - Posted by: Anton at May 30, 2013 1:02 PM

#59 Rob: Sometime we all just need to finish. That's cool. Like I told my brother-in-law who has stated CFing and we talk shop a bit... "seomtimes you destroy the workout, and sometimes it destoys you, but you always are a winner by completing it and coming back for more." This consistancy aspect of continuing on with your training will reap you the most rewards of all. This, in the end will balance you out, and give you that outlet for all those pentup emotions. When I'm pissed and it has passed and I'm getting ready to workout, I sometimes reimagine the things that were bothering me and take those frustrations out on the workout.. I USE that negative energy into a positive. I NEVER want to leave the gym with any negativity. In this way exercise is healthy and also cathartic. It develops and it's a release. We aren't allowed to yell and scream and throw tempers, so this physical release is a good outlet. Here you can grunt, and go all out until you have nothing left.. then, when you're done sit and relax and enjoy that blistful zen like moments when you are one with your breathing and enjoying your delapitated state as you recover and return to reality. A better reality without any stress. A lighter brighter outlook again.
This helps me. I am a big optimist and I think that exercise helps with my clarity and positive outlook, as well as helping me stay calm and relaxed.
