Ahh, hell. I did this a few weeks ago and thought I would die.

No rower, so I'm subbing 100 sdhp. This will not be fun.

also that kid muscle up vid is great

Comment #2 - Posted by: Joe-fiT at May 16, 2013 5:30 PM

Any bets on fastest Jacki time for 1st regionals weekend? Ill go out on a limb and say 5:20 by Mikko

Comment #3 - Posted by: Joe-fiT at May 16, 2013 5:34 PM

@G, subbing SDHPs for the rowing isn't in your best interest. The WOD is designed to include all three modalities, endurance, strength, and gymnastics. You would be better subbing the rower for running, biking, or swimming.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Bobby at May 16, 2013 5:39 PM

Are any of the regionals going to be streamed live on-line this weekend? Or are those (great) days over?

Thanks!

Comment #5 - Posted by: Ronnieboy M/50/5'9"/185 at May 16, 2013 6:20 PM

#4 SDHP are a standard sub for this workout and for rower in general. The description of the workout does not state to isolate all three modalities of movement. How about "I prefer to sub a mono structural movement for rowing" instead of telling someone whats good for them. Share your experience and preferences if you want them to be heard.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Jobris5 at May 16, 2013 6:20 PM

I remember doing "kid muscle ups" on the playground bars as a kid. Fun times.

I'll try to do "Jackie" in 10:00 or less tomorrow, but will have to do band-assisted pull ups.

Comment #7 - Posted by: GBelleL (F/5'5/43/136) at May 16, 2013 6:21 PM

So SDHPs are a sub for rowing, but don't help with the purpose of this particular benchmark WOD, so an endurance movement should be subbed?

Is it as simple as a 1,000 m run?

Comment #8 - Posted by: G at May 16, 2013 6:22 PM

A 1k row is hardly endurance but it'll make those 45lb thrusters suck. Mind you, having subbed 100 sdhp's for rowing, before I had access to a C2, I have to say that I'd rather run 1k or cycle 2k. :)

Comment #9 - Posted by: Lol Mettam at May 16, 2013 6:23 PM

@ Bobby: is a 1k row really endurance? Mind you, it'll make those 45lb thrusters suck. Having subbed 100 sdhp's for rowing in the past, before I had access to a C2, I have to say that I'd rather run 1k or cycle 2k. :)

I did the SDHP instead of a row. Those things were brutal. I've rowed before and I would MUCH rather row 1000m. There is no way I could sub any sort of running and get a decent time. I'd have to run 2+ miles to even begin to feel like I did after the SDHP.

I am a member at Crossfit Takeover in Virginia Beach (great box) and a grad student at Regent University. I am doing a case study on Crossfit and women over 50, the benefits. If there is anyone out there with information on how women are improving or some experiences to share, please let me know. I am also looking for data such as how women over 50 have improved in strenght and performance, the games are a perfect example, not sure where to find the info. I would like to show the past three years and the improvement. Any insights are much appreciated. Nanette Miller

F/26y/174cm/72kg

Officially my first attempt at a WOD.
Did "Jackie" after 3 rounds of:
15 Box Jumps @ 60cm
12 Stiff leg Deadlifts @ 50kg
12 KB squats @ 24kg
Back Squats until failure @ 40kg

My time for "Jackie" was 13:13 (assisted pull ups with band). The rowing after the above was the hardest! No idea what that's like but I'm guessing poor, so can only improve :)

Comment #62 - Posted by: Samantha at May 17, 2013 7:16 AM

@Nannette Miller - my mom has been working out with me since day 1 (about 9 months ago), and I have a spreadsheet with data on every WOD she's completed. Not sure if it's the kind of info you're looking for, but she's definitely seen many improvements.

Wyatt, I';m in the same boat on the monday through friday, use sat to stay limber with light exercise and rest day is sunday. For the day that is listed as a rest day I'll back track in the week and do the WoD for sunday or the previous weekend. Hope this helps.

Last time I did this, I had 9:16, but I sub'd 100 SDHP for Row 1000m. Maybe that had something to do w/ the decline, or maybe the fact that I didn't rest since last Saturday. My row was finished around 3:43, not sure if that is considered slow. I know I struggled with the pull ups.

Subbed 100 SDHP with 45-lb bar. Did this a week behind schedule.

@Bobby #4: it's funny for me to see someone suggest that 100 SDHPs aren't a suitable substitution. It reminds me of one of the earliest CFJ articles I read, in which it was mentioned that an endurance athlete was lying on the ground, panting, after a high-intensity CF WOD, and said "but where's the cardio?"

I wouldn't call a 1,000 m row "endurance," but doing it as fast as you can for time is analogous to the 100 SDHPs in my humble opinion. They also tax the arms and legs similarly, which make the thrusters and pull ups more difficult than subbing with running.

As RX'D about 9:00 min. 1 min. walk from rowing machine to do thrusters. Ripped my shorts halfway through the thrusters. Did the remaining workout bare assed at the Global gym. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts! !

Again, used a rower that is a little suspect, but my row time was slow and broke the pull ups. Less than stellar performance to say the least. Missed by PR by 57.9 seconds.

Head not in it, and only did 500M on the row, thrusters were broken 35-15, PU 15-15

Working on a bad cold as well, so to get a pr to this extent was surprising.
