Private security contractors = mercenary = people who fight for money. I hope crossfit doesn't plan to put theses guys in the same light as its heroes.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Otisdadog at April 26, 2013 6:18 PM

Most of the private security people are your heros or do they not count when they have left the military

Comment #5 - Posted by: Derek at April 26, 2013 6:27 PM

Why not fight for money? The US "military-industrial complex" that Eisenhower warned us about and the multi-national mega corporations are all about the money (or natural resource grabs that can be easily converted to the money). Only the brain washed peons actually think they are sacrificing for a noble cause. You know like....freedom, democracy, human rights, etcetera...blah...blah....blah...It is all hogwash. It is always been all about the money ...since the times of the Roman Empire and before.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Sgt Rock USMC 1971-1977 at April 26, 2013 6:48 PM

Comment #4/5 is misguided, uninformed and envious. Anyone who fights for the greater good is a hero. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make more money for your family. Forget your bs politics and just crossfit, dude.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Tom at April 26, 2013 6:51 PM

Heros do it for god and country. Contractors, although brave, do it for money. And to answer your question Derek, ask any contractors why the left the service then went back as contractors. Money!

Either way, RIP all.

Most are retired military. No need to act like hipsters and criticize for no reason. They still take fire to protect Americans, they just get paid more. God forbid they get paid a decent salary for doing so.

I ended up in emergency the other day after doing "Schmalls". I tried to pass the neighbor lady that was walking 9 dogs and none of them were on leashes. Today I had to modify the work out a bit. 7 muscle ups, hobble out and fetch 2 wheelbarrow loads of firewood for time. I am emberrased to post my time. Please forgive me. 4 more days of antibotics.

Those elevation masks are ridiculous and they don't work. In fact, they merely restricted breathing which is completely different from breathing/training at altitude. They are dangerous and a waste of money, especially since they've never been proven to enhance performance.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Jason at April 26, 2013 7:43 PM

Comment #15 - Posted by: Jason at April 26, 2013 7:44 PM

For those that question the motives of the PMC if they are doing the same job they were when in uniform what's the difference? The fact that they are making more money shouldn't tarnish them, just simple economics. If I am going to be shot at for doing the same job I sure as hell would want to make the most I could doing it. What about the 18 year old that joins the Army to pay for college? Seems like they're in it for the money, not noble reasons.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Michael at April 26, 2013 7:59 PM

It would nice if they had filters on their masks.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Scot at April 26, 2013 8:11 PM

Liberals are...annoying. No solutions to anything, just complaints.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Nick at April 26, 2013 8:18 PM

PSCs are no more in "service" to our country than the barista at Starbucks or technician at Jiffy Lube. A PSC is an employee doing a specific task for compensation, nothing more, nothing less. To speak of them in the same light as we do a soldier is ridiculous and disrespectful to the military.

A PSC works in a foreign country, carries a military-style weapon and can unleash hot lead at anybody and is not held to any laws, chain of command, or justice. They can also gangrape your daughter or wife and not be held to any standard of law recognized in The Hague. Ponder THAT the next time you want to thank a PSC for their "service." So long as private security firms are owned under the umbrella of the Bilderburg Group, PSCs are mercenaries, nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks to Main Page for digging through the archives, and selecting "Klepto" on the second anniversary of his death. Obviously no coincidence. Very nice tribute. Prayers and continued healing for Susie, Elizabeth, and David. Never met Klepto, but, on the other hand, I knew him quite well; I wore a bag too, for 27 years. I happened to be Navy, but a flight suit, and a pair of wings on the nametag is brotherhood.

"Heros do it for god and country. Contractors, although brave, do it for money."

You have obviously never served in the military. There are many reasons people serve, some altruistic, some selfish. Most fall somewhere in between and it's a combination of serving their country AND getting something for themselves. but say they all just do it for "God and country" is completely ignorant of reality. When I was in (both active and reserves) I never saw anyone in the military turn down enlistment bonuses, ACIP, pilot bonuses, jump pay, hazardous duty pay, combat tax exclusion, family separation pay, tuition assistance, GI bill, etc, etc.

It is always interesting to me when people (like you) who have no real knowledge and experience on a topic decide to spout off like a subject matter expert.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Mark F at April 26, 2013 9:34 PM

@otisdadog

Chances are all four of them are prior military

One of them is a former marine, with an EGA on his left arm.

Comment #23 - Posted by: Graham at April 26, 2013 9:35 PM

Hey folks,
Don't let an argument about security contractors dominate today's discussion. As #17/Dave T. writes, today is about Klepto, who died serving his country. I for one will sweat and suffer in Klepto's honor tomorrow morning, and know his family continues to mourn. Let's think about that.

Comment #28 - Posted by: dan at April 27, 2013 12:08 AM

Modified this one and did it at home with my son. We subbed the squat cleans for snatches. Here are our results: Me: Male/42/155 - 27:28 - 27 inch bed - ceiling touch burpees - 95ish pound storage box. Son: Male/5/36 - 21:11 - 6 inch IKEA step stool - clap burpees - large pillow.

Comment #30 - Posted by: Nigel O'Connor at April 27, 2013 12:50 AM

Elevation masks do work but they are just gas masks. They don't simulate elevation just limits the air flow. They say it is also beneficial but (as far as I know) not proven.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Alp at April 27, 2013 2:06 AM

I had the chance to work with Klepto at Eielson. Though I didn't know him well, I did know him as an honest good natured pilots who was always good to my maintainers. I hope somewhere he's enjoying some "code-1 candy" and I'll dedicate my workout to him!

Comment #32 - Posted by: Tim A at April 27, 2013 2:36 AM

Those are actually protective masks, and it's usually a good idea to train to be comfortable in one while under stress, hmmmmm, maybe a WOD would be good to simulate stress. People who aren't comfortable, tend to panic due to the restricted breathing, not a good thing to do should you actually need to use it for real. Also private contractors are not freelance mercenaries. Where I work, we use a lot of private contractors for security and believe me, we honor them as heroes when they fall in the line of duty.

I really don't understand how anyone could say, "Heros do it for god and country. Contractors, although brave, do it for money." Two points, first Mark F. said it perfect, as a current military member with 15 years of service I haven't met a person who solely joined for God and country. Whether they are taking the bonuses or using the depleting education and healthcare benefits they are taking something. From young 17 year old troops to 50 year old leaders most members are willing to lay it on the line for this great country. Second, the contractors as most have pointed out are former military members and even though they may get better compensation they are standing shoulder to shoulder with our troops willing to give their lives for a cause. They are willing to do the jobs that our military members cant in some cases and they are better equipped and protected to do it. They are just as much heroes as the rest of our great military members and should be treated as such. Not to mention with the budget cuts and draw back our troops are having to do more with less so I am happy to look over and see a contractor who can pull me out or save my butt. What you should be considering is why we don't compensate our troops better, give them equivalent to the contractors as both are doing the same job. Sorry for being so long winded but to see insults against guys who will lay it down for freedom and this great country is just ignorant.

I could hear my heart in my ears. Jumps and burpees ok, but then to squat those cleans could barely do 2 in a row. I guess jumps and burpees tax the body pretty good. Was happy was over. Humble.

At least it was better than last time. BJ better when I remembered knees out & engage lumbar on jump. Did snaky Burpees for most part to conserve energy for sq cleans. Sq cleans better alter when I remembered to have chest & hips rise at same time, keep back tight & get shoulders up & forward to rcve bar. Tried to do next rep within 10 sec of last one on last 2 rounds. Seemed to help w/pace.

Would be more impressive if they actually had filters on their respirators.

Ouch. I'm sore. Did yesterday. 25:16. Should've moved faster on burpees since I rested between cleans anyway. Cleans we're easier than ever but still gassed me.
