An impressive row! Anything sub 1:20 is fast and this kid could looks like he could have pushed it even harder. He'll go faster again soon. Has he raced 2000m before?

Comment #1 - Posted by: Brad at April 5, 2013 6:24 PM

Looks like the rower was set at 7

Comment #2 - Posted by: Murphinator M/38/185/5'10" at April 5, 2013 6:48 PM

Brad,

Ryan won the Crash B's Junior heavyweight division this year with a 6:02 2k: http://www.crash-b.org/web/wp-content/uploads/results/2013/event-JM.html

He was 6 seconds faster than anyone else in that category.

Comment #3 - Posted by: Russ Greene at April 5, 2013 7:01 PM

Russ,
Thanks for the info. Is Ryan rowing for a unversity in the fall? I hope he has or is planning on spending some time in a boat. Jr. National Team?

Comment #4 - Posted by: Brad at April 5, 2013 7:31 PM

That row is nuts! Nice freaking job young man!

Ryan, Holy smokes!

Comment #6 - Posted by: TheJeepinDad at April 5, 2013 8:23 PM

Ryan came to me seeking strength training for Ice Hockey! I soon realized his athletic ability. He had a natural gift for wanting to suffer and train hard. We went to the Crash B World Championships in 2011 where he placed 3rd and was the top US rower pulling a 6:13. The beauty of it all was this was done with a fraction of time spent on an erg compared to competetive rowers. Constantly varied at high intensity was how we trained! At the 2013 Crash B World Championships he won pulling a 6.02.4. He is going to Stanford to row in the fall. I wish him well. He is not only a great young athlete but a fine young man. He has earned it and deserves it. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the games some day! Very honored and thankful for CrossFit HQ for posting the video!
Much respect, Markus

On treadmill due to poor weather.
Started at 17Kph for first 3 sets. Moved upto 17.5 for 2 sets, 18 for 1, 18.5 for 1 and finally 19 for last round. Good workout. Total time just under 25 minutes.

Mapped this out on my street using a GPS pedometer. Had to run 200m then turn around and run back, so that slowed me down a tiny bit. Should have pushed harder but didn't have much left in the tank. This was exhausting and I LOVED IT.

21:56

I was reading some of the comments on the Open Leaderboard and they are, in my opinion, nonsense. If someones score was not perfectly judged because it has no video it doesn't really matter. In the long run what is a few reps. If that person is unworthy of qualifying for the regionals they will certainly not move on past the regionals. If you happen to be the unfortunate one who doesn't make regionals because of a rep or two take solace in the fact that you were a millimeter away. Let that fuel your workouts for the upcoming year and come back better and stronger for the open in 2014.
The point of this is to improve overall health and fitness, while enjoying yourself. The open is just an extension of that for 99% of the participants. It also can act as a measuring tool for where your at among the whole, and certainly a few people being placed fractions of a percent higher or lower won't affect that.
People need to relax and not worry about the scoring system. No ones life is going to change for having been placed one spot higher or lower(except in the case of the finals). Be thankful that we have found something that will lengthen our lives and make each day more enjoyable. If CF'ing adds a week, month, or year to your life be happy that you will get to spend that additional time with people you love and doing what you love. Don't waste it getting angry or anxious over whether or not someones judge is really qualified.

then oblique wind direction(at 20+ mph) killed my drive on the third.

Done on road behind office. First runs went well. Started raining on round 4. That & just fatigue contributed to drop off in times. Good job using arms on runs for momentum though.

At home on 400m route in driveway, up road, etc. Pretty tough, but good job pushing overall. Using hips on last round or 2 helped w/leg fatigue.
