Any suggestions for a good triple under sub?

Comment #8 - Posted by: Trina at March 25, 2013 6:01 PM

What are wall ball "2-fer-1's"?

Comment #9 - Posted by: Seth at March 25, 2013 6:06 PM

#8 i would jus sub with double unders if triples are not coming. #9 after you release the wall ball you complete a squat before receiving it out of the air. hope that helps.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Talib Murray at March 25, 2013 6:13 PM

To: Seth # 9; "2-fer-1s" is wall balls with two squats for every one through.

Don't have a GHD or a rope. Any suggestions for subs on back extensions and rope climbs???

Comment #20 - Posted by: Miles at March 25, 2013 10:17 PM

Miles, the main site has a link for suggested substitutions. I don't remember the quantity, but towel pull ups are the sub for rope claims.

I don't know the recommend sub for back extensions but you don't need a GHD to do them. I have just used a regular bench and had someone sit on my legs before. Good mornings might not be a bad sub.

== Do WallBalls instead of 2-fer-1's ==
============================

WallBall 2 for 1's are an excellent way to f*up your back. In a normal wallball, the idea is to catch the ball and slow its velocity at you reach the full depth of the squat. The torso is travelling in the same direction as the ball when it is caught. You use your legs to decelerate the ball over a long distance.

In the WB 2 fer 1, you are most likely standing and coming to full hip extension while simultaneously catching a falling 20lb object. The torso is moving in the opposite direction of the ball as it is caught. You use your arms and back to rapidly decelerate the ball.

Use your own judgement here, especially if you feel any pain in the back. For the most part, crossfit gets it right, but this is one exercise that is a yellow light, perhaps even a red light.
Unfortunately, too many will want to write down a time with "as Rx'd" next to it and will not even consider modifying a movement.

50 Walking lunge steps

50 Box jumps, 24 inch box

I'm surprised I did so well, even with the modifications. Box jumps and wallballs kicked my ass. Shows what weaknesses I need to work.

Looking forward to the announcement of the next Crossfit Games WOD tomorrow. Definitely not competing, but will be a great challenge.

Not rx'd. Subbed: double unders for triple unders; 45 lb good mornings for back ext; hspus for ring dips; 45 lb thrusters for wallball 2-fer-1s. Also did straight leg situps, and rope climbs were closer to 10 feet than 15, and pretty ugly at that. 37:03.

Comment #129 - Posted by: J.Wood at March 26, 2013 8:46 PM

30:35 Subbed straight jump roping (1minX2) used the exercise ball for back extensions with 20LBs on my back; no 20LB weighted ball available so with the 8LB ball I doubled the number of reps. No rope or rings available so I added more reps on the pull-up bars, varying between close and wide grips, lastly, I am still trying to master box jumping, 75 jumps on a 18". Fun workout and done in my home..I loved it

Was wondering, for the WallBalls, is there a standard for the squat in between ? Because on the video depth seems ok because he reaches the bottom medball, but his hips aren't opening on the re-catch of the ball, is this OK ?
I mean, you need time to fully squat down, and get fully back up, I have to throw the ball 11-12' high to have the appropriate tme to obtain full depth & extension back up before catching the bal, am I doing too much ?

This happened in my hometown when I was still a reservist and a civilian medic. I was on standby for that incident out at point clear to provide medical attention to, if any, survivors. Unfortunately, we couldn't do anything. I finished this in 26:28.05 but counted my 25 attempts and only completed 5 or 6 triple unders. Then I had to do reg wallball shots bc I couldn't drop fast enough. Also, had no rope available.

Man that was rough. I had to do tuck jumps instead of triple unders as the skipping rope was in someone else's locker. Also had to do the wall balls at the office (1/2 mile from the park) so that broke things up a bit). 34 minutes.
