My two favorite exercises! How did you guys know........bwahahahahahahah

Comment #3 - Posted by: Joshua M. Weaver at March 6, 2013 5:17 PM

Ok so I'm fairly new to the crossfit world but... How on earth am I supposed to complete this in 17 min??

Comment #4 - Posted by: Robert at March 6, 2013 5:17 PM

@Robert (comment 4)

You'll be trying to do as many reps as possible in 17 minutes; not necessarily having to finish it.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Steven at March 6, 2013 5:21 PM

So @Steven

The goal is to see how far I get??

Comment #6 - Posted by: Robert at March 6, 2013 5:23 PM

@Robert

That is correct

Comment #7 - Posted by: James at March 6, 2013 5:28 PM

Robert - that's correct. Then you can compare to others who'll be posting their scores or try again in the future to see if you improve.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Steven at March 6, 2013 5:28 PM

Question regarding the snatches:

The site homepage and the first page of the downloadable PDF list the 3rd round male snatch weight at 165#. The scorecard, however, lists it at 185#. Which is it?

Comment #9 - Posted by: Jason Duby at March 6, 2013 5:29 PM

Sounds good. Thanks gents !

Comment #10 - Posted by: Robert at March 6, 2013 5:32 PM

Love this WOD!!!! AND NICE TIMERS!!

App is called Timers Pro and is on iTunes :)

Looking forward to doing this WOD tomorrow.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Andrew Bucchin at March 6, 2013 5:35 PM

Julie, nice work. You are an amazing athlete.
What kind of nutrition do you follow on a daily basis?
thank you.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Katie at March 6, 2013 5:43 PM

My guess is that it will take me about 8 minutes to finish the first 100 reps, and the remaining 9 will be spent trying to get a few more reps at 135. MUST LEARN OLY LIFTS!!

Comment #13 - Posted by: texinma (m/44/5'7/150) at March 6, 2013 5:51 PM

Just watched Dan bailey and Scott panchick do this wod and iam wishing that it would have only been 7 min of burpees like last year. This is going to be a very long 17 min.

Comment #14 - Posted by: hollyhog at March 6, 2013 5:57 PM

Julie is pure awesomeness. I am ready to go after this tomorrow.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Stone at March 6, 2013 5:59 PM

Shouldn't the time being recorded after each round of snatches be the elapsed time rather than the time remaining from the vid? I guess it would be easy enough to do the math before you put the score in.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Jeff R at March 6, 2013 6:14 PM

The Open Is My CrossFit Games !

Comment #17 - Posted by: Patrick at March 6, 2013 6:16 PM

Did I hear that Reebok commercial correctly during the 13.1 broadcast? Reebokcrossfit gear will take seconds off my time? Really?!

Comment #18 - Posted by: Erik at March 6, 2013 6:20 PM

The scorecard that is provided is wrong. It has the men's weights as 75-135-185-210. It should say 75-135-165-210. Just trying to help.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Jay Kay at March 6, 2013 6:20 PM

Just finished 13.1

152 reps

Tough!!

Comment #20 - Posted by: Kevin at March 6, 2013 6:31 PM

Fixed the Scorecard. Thanks CrossFit. Can't wait for this WOD.

Comment #21 - Posted by: Jay Kay at March 6, 2013 6:33 PM

why did we (we if we're a community) change video formats today? no more WMV videos?

Comment #22 - Posted by: ross at March 6, 2013 6:35 PM

Crossfit Central Wellington (In New Zealand) is going to crush this on Saturday! Go team Kiwi!

Comment #23 - Posted by: Marcus at March 6, 2013 6:42 PM

Holy crap.......Panchik is a beast. Bailey is a beast. Foucher is a beast.

Great job!

Comment #24 - Posted by: Pat Sherwood at March 6, 2013 6:53 PM

Where did the WMV video option go. Please bring back I'm unable to watch the video & instructions.

Comment #26 - Posted by: hollyhog at March 6, 2013 6:55 PM

What were the scores of the live broadcast?

Comment #27 - Posted by: kyle at March 6, 2013 6:57 PM

Let the Games begin!!!!!

Comment #28 - Posted by: Dominick at March 6, 2013 6:59 PM

Boz seems to contradict himself in the two videos. On the demo/how to video he states that you note the elapsed time of when you complete the last snatch in a round.

Then in the video of Julie's actual workout he states the time remaining when she completed her final round of 30 snatches.

Which is it?

Comment #29 - Posted by: WalterMitty at March 6, 2013 7:04 PM

Wow. Couldn't do Wed due to weather. Did workout in 16min with 45lb bar. I have a long way to go!

Comment #30 - Posted by: Eric at March 6, 2013 7:12 PM

Should you use the men's masters weight for age 40 and up

Comment #31 - Posted by: Dennis at March 6, 2013 7:16 PM

What if you cannot snatch 135 for 30 reps? How much should I lower the weight in order to get the full affect? Can I power clean instead? Thanks guys!

Comment #32 - Posted by: Anthony H at March 6, 2013 7:18 PM

On the live event they did 205 but the mainsite says 210.. Assuming the 210 is a typo but wanna know for sure

Comment #33 - Posted by: Travis at March 6, 2013 7:25 PM

My bad, they give women's weight in the demo

Comment #34 - Posted by: hollyhog at March 6, 2013 7:26 PM

Comment #40 - Posted by: Burk at March 6, 2013 8:10 PM

@#36, Sergey,

I use the iWOD Fitness app for iPad and it looks very similar. Not sure if its exactly the same or not.

Comment #41 - Posted by: Kris at March 6, 2013 8:38 PM

@Sergey, #36

I believe the iPad app is either "Timers Pro" or "Workout Hero" (which has a Timers Pro function).

Comment #50 - Posted by: Vic at March 6, 2013 11:18 PM

WalterMitty,

You're right, I mis-spoke in Julie's video. Record the time elapsed at the end of each snatch set to use as the tiebreaker (NOT the time remaining).

Comment #58 - Posted by: Alejandro at March 7, 2013 2:09 AM

@Sergey #36, it's called "Timers Pro"

@WalterMitty #28, I saw in the text description of the WOD it said to have your timer count up if possible, so that the elapsed time will show when you complete the snatch rounds. Hope this helps.

THE OPEN IS UPON US.

Hey!
So i'm fairly to crossfit so i started with these WODs at thuesday. Its not That i'm in a bad shape. But in your opinion should i take a rest Day or go through with todays WOD? Is it necessary to adjust to WODs 3 days in a row?

Comment #61 - Posted by: Rasmus at March 7, 2013 3:05 AM

Looking forward to this one! Couple of questions though:

- is a competitor allowed to drink water during the WOD.

- Is a competitor allowed to start using or change equipment during the WOD (Example: Adding wrist straps at 165 and a belt at 205, adding knee wraps or sleeves or changing shoes...)

Should have had more than a glass of water between playing basketball last night and WOD this morning. Tank was empty after the set of 30 burpees. Finished the rest of the burpees but not snatches since form was getting dangerously bad.

114. (First) practice run. Great fun. I was at the limit of my snatch strength on the second set, so 150 would be the best score I could hope for. Although I think I would be very happy with 130.

What a great workout to start with.

Comment #84 - Posted by: Bells at March 7, 2013 6:24 AM

Am I wrong or are you not supposed to be scaling these WODs for the open? I thought the whole point was to compare yourself to everyone else competing to a set standard. If you're scaling your weight and posting your numbers then it kind of little cheating. If you can't snatch 135lbs, you're done and thats your rep count. Am I correct?

Comment #85 - Posted by: Matt at March 7, 2013 6:41 AM

105 reps

could not do snatch at 135 so I did clean and jerk as a sub. I tried to snatch at 135 but was not my luck, I have no confidence in my snatch ability. Might have done a few more but I had to switch weights out and that took a little bit of time.

Comment #110 - Posted by: bingo at March 7, 2013 10:38 AM

bingo & Kevin C. -- even as a youngster of 48 I used Master's weights for exactly the same reason bingo cites in his post. I knew if I tried Rx'd I'd get 100 reps and then spend the rest of the time trying and probably failing to get 135 since that's my 1RM under the best of circumstances anyway. I decided I'd rather be able to continue to do work for the entire time.

Movement standards for burpees is a bit unclear, hips to the ground, or chest to the ground or both?

Going to sub one arm dumbell snatches at 1/2 weight because dont have any coaching or experience with barbell snatches. Was going to do 30 per arm to move the same net weight. Should allow more than 17 min to complet the workout as doing in effect double reps will make a big difference time-wise? Any sage thoughts?

Hi, great WOD. Could I suggest that WOD weights are also released with the required weight in kg's. The conversion allows for inconsistency and confusion around the world (outside of USA).

@sean Snyder - I can work out the weights Sean, just can't find the standards to say if the metric equivalent has to be heavier or what? Messing about with piddley little weights to get the correct standard will eat into my time, not a newbie. So please obie one master of all. Patience with the Europeans.

Can we make the weights a bit more inclusive?

I don't mean less, but around the World many of us don't have lb plates. Are we to be doubly penalised: have to round up every weight and juggle lots of little plates in tired sweaty fingers?

Or is there a sensible compromise. I'm not entering so I matters little to me, so I used 35kg (1kg up) and 60kg (1kg down), 75kg and 95kg worked fine. It means I have virtually the same plate changes as someone using lbs and the weights are far closer than rounding up to the next 2.5kg.

Please, please, please publish 'official' metric weights so that some poor person doesn't have their dream shattered because they are using heavier weights and failing or using lighter weights and getting disqualified.

As rx'd, 151 total reps (1 snatch at 165#).

The burpees destroyed me. I felt I had this pretty well paced, completing the 30 burpees with about 10 minutes left. My plan was to get through the Isabel portion in 5 minutes (6 snatches per minute), but I was struggling to keep this pace. In the end, it took about 6 minutes, but I was hating life going back to the 20 burpees. Got 165# on the bar with about a minute left and no time to recover - I was able to get in 4 good attempts. All of them were close, but only the last one made it all the way up. Brutal.

Not rx'd. Due to equipment limitations, and personal failings, did 65 lbs and 95 lbs, and would have gone on to 115 lbs if I made it that far. I didn't.
40 burpees + 30 power snatch at 65 lbs + 30 burpees + 30 power snatch at 95 lbs + 14 burpees = 144 reps.

In 17 minutes:

40 Burpees
30 pound dumbbell Snatch, 30 reps
30 Burpees
55 pound one-arm dumbbell Snatch, 30 reps each side
20 Burpees
65 pound one-arm dumbbell Snatch, 1 reps each side

This one got a little crazy towards the end! Improvised with the one-arm db snatches...would start with them sooner next time.
