The Chinese menu of CrossFit WOD’s! One from column ‘A’ or one from column ‘B’. The Twin Girls, “Cindy” and “Mary”. What to do? What to choose? Experienced CrossFitters will see this and give considered thought as to what kind of stimulus they need/want today.
You? What about you, my freshly minted little Newbie buddy? Ho, ho, ho…not you. Nope. No decision for you at all. You, my friend, will do “Cindy.” Why? Simple. The first WOD that anyone has a chance to do As Rx’d is almost always “Cindy” and this is your first shot. That and the fact that explaining both Handstand Push-ups AND One-legged Squats on January 6th is…well…you’re doing “Cindy”! (If for some unfathomable reason you, a rank rookie, decide to do “Mary”, there are two excellent demo videos, one which is from Jenna, Josi, and Noor on scaling).
Here’s another classic CrossFit WOD pattern, the AMRAP: “As Many Rounds As Possible.” This is a “time demand” WOD. We are being given the amount of time that we will exercise and asked to do as much work as possible in that time period. Both “Cindy” and “Mary” are AMRAP 20:00, each 20 minutes of work, and each is another CrossFit triplet consisting of 3 exercises.
“Cindy” is AMRAP 20:00 of 5 Pull-ups (told ya about the PU, didn’t I?)/10 Push-ups/15 Squats. Completing all 3 equals one round. You will report your WOD as X Rounds + however many reps of each you completed in a last, incomplete round. For example: 19 rounds + 5 PU + 10 Push-ups + 10 Squats (sigh*). Entry into the Big Dawg club starts at 20 rounds in 20:00 of “Cindy” (10 rounds of “Mary”).
5 PU. Same as “Fran and “Helen”. The Kipping PU is the default PU in CrossFit. Gymnastic, Frog Kick, or Butterfly…hands away (PU), toward (chin-up), or facing…no one cares. Do whatever works best for you. Scale with rubber bands or a Gravitron. Might be an awful lot of PU in this WOD, so I would NOT advise doing Jumping PU for fear of the eccentric motion of going slow on the downstroke.
10 Push-ups. The CrossFit standard is chest to the deck on the bottom, elbows locked out at the top. The Games standard “hands release” (picking your hands up with your chest on the ground) is not asked for here. Can’t do a full, standard push-up? No worries. Do ‘em from your knees. Just don’t call them girl push-ups because there are literally thousands of CrossFit women who do them strict and straight and waaaaaay faster than you!
15 Squats. This is an air squat, just you and gravity. No added weight. Squat to a depth where the crease of your hips goes below your knees. At the top you must stand all the way up with your hips fully open. Be careful not to let your knees collapse inward on the way down or up.
Six days in and you get a third Girl! Today choose “Cindy” and if you can do a PU you get a CrossFit WOD as Rx’d already. Nice.

I did Cindy. 11 rounds no reps at 18 min 40 seconds my arms did not get the fact I had more time for pull ups but I think I could of done more push-ups and sqauats. I'll tell them ahead of time next go around. Thank you Coach. Sixth CF workout.
@Ray rings are harder but I would still do the amount in the WOD becuase you'll get stronger faster and when you get a pull up bar they'll be easier
This picture reminds me of the reason I Crossfit, not to get a PR on Fran, but so I can go do whatever activity I want or need. Fitness is not the goal. Living well is what I strive for. Now look out while I take on Mary!

Pull-ups broken after round 7 in 10/5. Last time I'd set a timer to 80 seconds which gave me about 15 seconds of rest between rounds. This time I tried 78 seconds per round which is only 2.5% faster, but I fell behind this pace about 8 minutes in.
Good HSPUs with head moving forward as Laurie Galassi showed us. Barefoot pistols no problem as always.
Pull-ups used to feel easier, I remember having done 12 or 13 rounds unbroken in the past. Need to incorporate them in my warm-up more often, to grease the groove.

3rd day of cross fit after a 6 month break. Hoping to get back into it.

I think I should have done 9 rounds, but in the beginning I slacked off a bit on some squats, and if I had not done that or reached for the towel a few times, I would have hit 9. I am happy with my first time numbers. I had my goal at 6, and after going over 8, I am feeling successful with the morning. I will have to come up with a way to count rounds in the future. That way I don't go overboard and cost myself time. I might have done 9 rounds because for a moment I lost count at 6 or 7 and decided it was better to go for the lower number to be safe.

Sunday musings (lazy day)...
1) Weird. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
2) Climb. Affiliate field trip to a climbing gym yesterday. It was really fun to hear the experienced climbers say stuff like:"I've never seen someone do it that way", "she just PULLED herself up", or my favorite "you're not supposed to be able to do that."
Bilateral exchange of passions on display all day. The CrossFitters want to come back for more climbing, and the climbers want some CrossFit, just to 'get some'!
3) Consistency. CrossFit, Inc has been quite consistent in many, many ways. HQ has kept its own counsel regarding the CF programming, business model, IP control, PR, etc. When presented with an idea that is better, or something new, HQ has embraced it, albeit not with any sense of urgency, and often "bent" a bit to be more CrossFitty".
There are many, many suggestions out there for HQ, from within the CrossFit Community and most certainly from outsiders. HQ has been quite consistent in its response to those that are simply re-runs, no matter how fresh and new they might seem to folks newer to the world: they are all ignored. Still.
What is equally consistent if how surprised everyone is when HQ continues to demonstrate consistency in the face of success.
4) Others. "Trying to control what other people think is a trap." Seth Godin. Think about this (I know; sorry). An idea or a job or an innovation is either good or it's not, but until it's out there and in the game it's essentially nothing at all. When you are creating, the effect or outcome of the idea itself is primary, not what you think someone else might think of it. That can lead to paralysis, an idea trapped.
Sure, part of any successful endeavor will include positive responses, good "talk" from other folks. But it's really incredible how many good ideas are dead at birth, or before birth, because we are afraid of what people MIGHT say about the idea, or us. Worry about the idea, the plan, the model, and let the words fall where they may.
5) Resolve (Re-post). I landed on "Cool Hand Luke" while surfing yesterday. Man, was Paul Newman something, or what? For all of his faults, and despite being guilty of whatever landed him in that prison camp, Luke was resolved to fight the injustice of his existence. He was resolved not to lose the essence of who he was, despite the hardships imposed on him by those who would break him, break his will, make him relinquish that which made him, well, cool.
Movies are usually an escape for me. I'm not often prompted to terribly deep thought while watching one. But I wondered, what of my life that occasionally seems so hard, is actually hard enough that it bends me from a true course? And if it is, indeed, that hard, how long could I hold out against the constancy of the difficulty, like Luke, before I broke?
Luke, knowing that he may finally be broken, seeks answers in the church he forswore. He looks to the ceiling, challenging Him, demanding an answer. He opens the door, stands there, framed. "What we have here is a failure to communicate". A last act of defiance, or a capitulation? One is left to wonder: did He answer?

I programed the gymboss to beep at every minute. When i completed the 26th round i took a look at the gymboss and it said 1 round left , so i did my best and completed the 27 round, but I didnt take into account that gymboss uses the minute 0 as well. I was in the floor with one minute left but in my mind i had finished, felt horrible, i got up but i wanted to puke. I lost 1 hole minute, guess next time i will be able to finish 1 moe round at least.
The first 6 rounds I did them before the 2 minutes mark. When I got to 10 i stopped some seconds to rebuild the determination for the rest of the WOD. Last rounds were more of a mental game. I take that last round was like a Failed rep at a strength based training. couldnt make my mind to do one more rep of anything. Its all in your head. Next time I will brake that barrier.

January 4 2012, was my last Cindy, and I said I wanted to reduce the pain for the year. It worked. I backed off from Crossfit by at least half, which dramatically minimized my DOMS, and increased my time for doing more traditional exercise like surfing, backpacking and tree-climbing. Thanks Coach for helping me achieve a basic core of fitness to handle real-world tasks.

Pistols weren't very deep, esp right leg since worried about knee. HSPU not bad. On heels & finger tips on way down then push through heel of hand on way up. Pistols - keep leg in position & lean body that way. Keep stomach tight. Must've pulled a muscle in left shoulder. Didn't feel it until next day. Also pulled muscle in my calf the next day as well. WTF???
