Comment #2 - Posted by: Earl at October 15, 2012 5:23 PM

Comment #3 - Posted by: Vasily Shchegolev at October 15, 2012 5:38 PM

You can do Hand stand push-ups as a scale down version. That's what my box does.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Ryan at October 15, 2012 5:53 PM

What happens if I am not comfortable doing hand stand push ups as yet?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Vasily Shchegolev at October 15, 2012 5:55 PM

2, 3: Wall walks - look it up.

Re: photo. How could they lose with Josh Everett as their Coach???

Comment #6 - Posted by: Mel/39m/5'10"/175 at October 15, 2012 5:59 PM

Then you can do box push-ups. Get on a box or crate, put your knees together, go forward where your hands are touching the floor and do push-ups. make sure your head touches the floor. If you think it will hurt, put a mat for your head.

Sots press. I can't seem to find the description under exercises and demos or FAQ. Can someone please explain? Thanks!

Comment #9 - Posted by: Halie at October 15, 2012 6:28 PM

Halie, watch the WOD demo, they explain it nicely on there. Flexibility is my enemy. Any advice or direction appreciated! I've been stretching for years w/o improvement, now on crossfit starting thrid week and lack of flexibility is working me over.

I just googled Sots press, this should be fun!!! I'll be scaling HSPUs for the HSW (how many reps equals 15m?)

Gymnastics moves, not my strong point. Can't really handstand walk

Also Sotts Press... Wow... A lot harder than it looks.

Scaled to 2 Rounds

15 x 45# Sotts Press
5 Mins Hand stand walk practice
20 Seconds L sit hold
5 Mins Hand stand walk practice

Treated this as more of a practice the skills session rather than a metcon as I figured this will help in the long run... Looks like I'll be adding Sotts Press and handstand walking to my skills prac section of my warmup from now on.

Still can't do a freestanding handstand or walk on my hands. Used to sub handstand wall walks (shoulder taps), but I tend to overextend too much doing these. So today I just practiced handstands in a more hollow position, butt tight, shoulders shrugged with as little support from the wall as possible to keep balance.

Comment #30 - Posted by: James M/30/5'7"/155lbs at October 16, 2012 6:03 AM

That was the weirdest WOD in a long time! Couldn't get the bar off my back for the sots presses, though I'm pretty flexible, and then couldn't do L sits b/c my shoulders were fried. So I subbed everything:
3 RFT:
15 thruster, 75 lbs
20 sec handstand (against wall)
15 sec frustration trying L sits
8 strict ring pull ups
11:50
I know the sots presses are rare, but I've always been told not to do behind the neck presses b/c its hard on the shoulder joint. True, or a gym myth?

Comment #31 - Posted by: Jim R. M/50/5'8"/155 at October 16, 2012 6:21 AM

I am new to CF, is it just as good to have someone hold your feet as you walk on your hands? I hate to cheat but i can't seem to walk on my hands yet.

I did a differnt WOD early this morning:
Karen - 150 wallballs
Did this in 9:42 at about 5:15 this morning.
I woke up a little later than I wanted to only had a tiny bit of warm up in the apt.
I did this as 15 sets of 10 to see if the reduced rest between sets would give a good result. Last time I think I did it as 10 sets of 15.
I liked it. Maybe I'll start with a few sets of 15 then go to 10s and see if that helps next time.
I took a few minutes rest then did 300 DU for time
I did the DUs in sets of about 20 but was tripping up a bunch more than I wanted to after only about 140. I did the DUs in about 5:56

I have a ton of respect for those of you who can finish workouts like this. This is my first WOD and first time attempting CrossFit. I did it solo and basically had to do the beginner hand-stands (as described in the demo video) and the L-sit with my knees bent. Even then this absolutely kicked my a$$.

Will keep at it though!

Today was my first ever CrossFit workout. I'm excited to keep this going.

21:00

Three rounds for time of:
30 pound Sots press, 15 reps
Swiss ball pushups, 15 reps
20 second L-sit hold
Swiss ball pushups, 15 reps

I have never done a HSPU, let alone a HS walk, so I sub'd as best I could on short notice (didn't really know what I was doing). After the workout, I asked a trainer at the gym if he could show me how to get started with a HS. After that, I did a set of 30 shoulder-touches supporting most of my own weight. I don't feel too sore right now, but I'm sure tomorrow morning is gonna be painful.

Thanks everyone!

As rx'd, 11:43.

Did this outside in the back yard. Sots press is a goat of mine with my poor back and shoulder flexibility, but it actually went pretty well this time. L-sits on parallettes, hadn't done these in awhile. And of course I enjoy the handstand walking. Fun WOD.
