Blimey!! That looks like hell on earth. Massive respect for getting it done. That was brave stuff. I'm sure Glen would have been proud. Anybody know any subs for the rope climb??? My gym has no ropes :'(. Advice will be much appreciated.
Semper Fidelis Glen.. The only easy day is yesterday.
Glen- Thanks for your hard work. Thanks to real Americans people are starting to take notice to the terrorist attacks that happened and are not blaming these deaths no more on random acts of violence that happened on Sept 11 2012. You are not forgotten. Thanks for the protection.
God Bless Glen and his family. What a terrible senseless tragedy.
R.I.P Glen, gone but never forgotten. People don't realize the sacrifices military operators make for the sake of our country. Thought the WOD demo could've been a little cooler if they had done it at the SEALFIT HQ, where his great friend, Mark Divine (former SEAL and owner) resides, but I guess they couldn't considering they had something different planned for today. Once again, thank you all operators who are risking themselves for us.
Glen-
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
I won't break any records either and it may take me even a couple of hours, but I'll get it done--
My family thanks you also.
Can't wait to do this one tomorrow! Those burpees are going to suck so bad! R.I.P Brother.
Can't wait to do this one tomrrow. R.I.P Brother.
Awareness,
Glen also trained at CrossFit Boston frequently. I echo your sentiments thanking the operators out there protecting us.
RIP Warrior. This WOD is perfect.
Rest in peace brother - we knew you ran toward the fire- fought hard to the end and did your best to protect those in need. You will be missed. I look forward to doing this workout in morning.
Rest in peace Sir. It is my honor to complete this in your honor
The only easy day was yesterday...
The very least I could do for this man is do a killer workout. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Doherty and his family in these troubling times. We can only hope that those responsible are brought to justice.
gonna sub 5 pullups and 5 air squats for 1 rope climb. RIP Glen this one is in honor of you.
This is going to be awesome. RIP Glen. You will be missed but certainly not forgotten.
@Gareth, substitute 1 towel pull up per foot of rope climb: 15 ft = 15 towel pull ups. Further info about substitutions can be found here http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#Substitutions0
"best of the best" is right, neal.
glen, you are missed. thank you for your sacrifice.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Glen. No doubt, we lost one of the good ones with this guy. I'm glad he will always be remembered as a Hero in our community.
Glen, thank you for fighting the fight. Your sacrifice won't be forgotten.
Holy wod!!!! RIP Glenn!! This is gonna sting!
What can I do instead of running? My knees are not working right now? I was going to row a mile instead to get the cardio.
God speed Glen. Thank you for your sacrifice. It was an honor to do this in your name.
We are the Pilgrims, master; we shall go
Always a little further; it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea...
RIP
Glen was an excellent classmate, waterman, and teammate, not to mention a superior human being.
CHEERS
RIP
I'm not gonna lie- this WOD looks frickin scary! Demo vid was awesome, getting to know this tiny piece of an incredible himan being puts it all into perspective and Glen's story is gonna get me through this brief moment of personal hell. God bless.

Thanks for the memories in Coronado, Glen. I will most certainly miss you waiting in the Tram line @ the 'Bird as well. Great human being on so many levels. we are diminished...
This is going to suck sooooo good. Going to get it done no matter how long it takes. You're a hero Glen, R.I.P.
I've known Glen since we were little kids. He introduced me to CF. He is an amazing person. Use google and find out more. Check out www.glendohertyfoundation.org. Thanks to CFHQ.
This will be done , no matter how long it takes!!! In your name Glen!!
We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.
RIP Warrior
I Will get this done.
Watching the VID was inspirational, and motivating to get this WOD done for Glenn (R.I.P).
With that said, my gym unfortunately doesn't support most of the CrossFitt training. Is there an alternative for the rope climb?
One TOUGH Wod. Game on.
Couple of people asking what a good sub for rope climbs.
FAQ = Good sub is towel climbs. Either alternating grips or pulling one side then the other. Wrap your towel over a chinup bar.
Down side is that you cannot use your legs and the towels may tear.
I use one foot per pullup. There may be better options but this is tough and will have your forearms burning.
RIP
Bravo Zulu Glen! You will be missed by your friends, family and Team. Rest easy we have the watch.

Sub'd 100 jumping pullups for rope climb 10 ascents, and runs were on treadmill. Very much winded after this one. Did a pretty tough leg workout yesterday and this WOD reassured me I should've just rest instead. Good times!

I looked at this and thought, "fair enough".
I went into the gym at the Naval Base at Faslane and there were 6 Royal Marines motoring through what looked like a hell of a workout, whatever it was.
So, no pressure then.
I started, first few reps...oooooh this is going to be good. At 25 clean & Jerks i was feeling the strain....Marines still charging on.
Dropped the bar and went onto do the run on a machine next door. All those injuries i'm carrying woke up....Hello, remember me!
Was it always this hard running???? I dont remember, but i'm forgetting what I'm doing and who i am at the moment.
Back into the Crossfit gym...F**Kin Marines are still beasting away...they must be on drugs, must be! Subbed the rope climbs with 30 pullups (proper pullups, not those kippping thingys) I'll do these in banks of 10. 1, 2, 3,..7 ohhh i feel sick. Collarbone pain..neck pain. Maybe not then..wee bits at a time. Put AC/DC on, WOOOAAAAHHH here we go....
Finished those...poor effort. Marines have not stopped (am i going backwards???) That clear substance they are drinking cant be water..must be laced with some sort of muscle enhancing, endurance boosting substance. CANT be water!!
Had to row instead of running (knee gave out)struggling badly...feel sick.
Cant hear the Marines..ach... they're doing pullups.
Burpees, banks of 10, no problem.
first 10..zoom yeehaa, got my mojo back..oh..no i've not..dizzzy...13..14..where am I???
Are those different Marines...nope..aah, that ones drinking a coloured liquid, i KNEW it. No,its just lucozade...bah!
Thinking of giving up, thinking of who i'll be letting down...who cares...no one to impress..right!? I'm at 60 now & hear the distant sound of Thunder. Right banks of 5 then and i'll finish this before the song ends.......
Last one..."YEAH, it's alright...WE'RE doing fine..Thu Thu Thunderstruck...."
WTF designed this workout?????????
AAARRRGGGHHHHHH shoot me!
M/40/5'11"/203.
I decided to split the WOD in two parts, due to time issues. Subbed rope climb for towel inverted rows to pull-up bar set at forehead's height (150 towel inverted rows- 1 for each foot of rope climb).

Hero WODs are always, and should be, really hard to remind us all that there has been the ultimate sacrifice. Be that military, police, fire service, paramedics or anyone working within the public sector that passes prematurely.
On a side note does anyone know of places to purchase good quality wrist wraps? I could do with the support during thrusters, front squats etc.

subbed 5 rope pullups per ascent

Is this saying to run 30 miles? Rest in Peace to my brother in arms.
This WOD is no joke... hard work pays off.

yo back #62. equinox 63/lex 2 blocks from home. They have bumper plates, let me hang rope and most of the trainers run interference. No substitute for going to a box but with 3 boys, wife, work, church, etc. it is my only shot timewise to train daily and gets the job done. When not home, I have had the pleasure of visiting some great affiliates for which there is no substitute. How about you Jon/#62?

Can't do the box thing for most of the reasons you state along with grad school. Use Co. Gym and basement and do the best I can. I let Jim Cramer yell at me in the basement, hoping some of his advie seeks into my brain as I sweat and breathe hard. When grad school ends...we'll see.

“Glen and Tyrone had each served America as Navy SEALs for many years, before continuing their service providing security for our diplomats in Libya. They died as they lived their lives — defending their fellow Americans, and advancing the values that all of us hold dear.
-President Obama (Weekly address)
Sounds good, the only problem is this statement is a total fabrication. Yes, they were both former Navy Seals, but neither Tyrone nor Glen were part of the Ambassadors official security detail.
No. The truth is: they heard the attack, they heard the gunfire, and despite the danger to themselves they rushed into the breach taking weapons from the frightened Libyan security officials to help protect the American Consulate, Ambassador Stevens and his embassy aide Sean Smith.
Both Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were under no obligation to assist, protect or defend Stevens. They could have bugged out, they didn’t….. They ran into the breach. It was, and is, an important enough distinction such that two U.S. officials quickly wanted to tell the truth.
According to what scant actual information is available the former seal team members, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, appear to have been in Libya because they were contracted by another intelligence office, probably the CIA, to track down the missing surface-to-air missiles from the initial rebel uprising.
Someone should do a little research and correct the bio of Glen Doherty, a true American hero, instead of echoing the BS the Administration put out.

R.I.P Glenn, true to the end..., this is a way to Honor the fallen and bring attention to something that most don't take the time to look at....it is the choice of you to either Honor or not. As a former operator in the US Army I decided to protect this nation. I look for nothing in return and I don't expect everyone to enlist.....Glenn wasn't just a SEAL, he was a Human being. Crossfit doesn't charge you for this WOD, you don't need to buy Sh**, either Honor or don't, but please do not use the format of someone being honored to say your agenda. Glenn is bringing together people even in death to better themselves. Some are ment to serve and some are not.....I respect your comments but please, wrong place and time. My deepest prayers and thoughts to Glenn's Family and to the SEALFIT community. HOOYAH!!!

Comment 107. You have no idea what you are talking about. When and where did you serve. If you did what branch, and or MOS were you. If you didn't serve then you have no right to make a comment. If you did serve than you can still STFU. Cross Fit is a way of life. And it is a life lived thru our Groups, Teams, and many regular duty personel. Also to exploit? What they hell are they selling or exploiting. Showing off the kind of BAMF he was. Get a life.
As for Cross Fit.com. Keep up the good work and way to honor my Brother-In-Arms. By putting everyone who can put up thru the Suck. One that I am sure would have made him smile after. RIP Brother take a knee WE have the watch for you now. Until we meet RIP.

Very hard work out. First time doing Clean & Jerks. Started at 95lbs, then to 115lbs, then finished at 135lbs. Trying to make sure my form is proper, that's why I started so low in weight. Burpees were great, I ran out of gas at #50. Running went well. I used one of my miles as warm up. 2nd run was at 800 meters (.497 miles). Instead of rope pulls, I completed two sets of jump ropes at 100 each. Neat workout. I'll be back.
