I went to college with Travis. He is deserving of a very challenging workout. Running + Squats = pure pain, but we can all go home after we're finished.

Sunday musings...

1) Savannah. Cool town ya got here.

2) Volume. Heard on the street last night:"Ya, but how many is that in 'dog beers'?"

3) Bogart. "The problem with the world is that everyone is always a couple drinks behind." Humphrey Bogart.

Bogart, an accomplished drinker, is also making a statement about a general atmosphere of tension and angst in his world. While I don't necessarily condone his solution, now or then, his observation is spot on, now AND then.

Things are generally better than we are admitting out loud to others, generally better than we are admitting to ourselves. Really. To see this shouldn't necessarily require beer goggles.

4) Ghosts. Savannah is populated by hundreds, maybe thousands, of ghosts. In truth if we met any last night I either didn't notice or don't remember. They, the ghosts that is, are all said to be sad or angry. If Savannah does indeed have ghosts it stands to reason that they ALL aren't angry or sad, and that got me to thinking about ancestors.

Have you ever examined your heritage? You know, looked at what's swimming in your gene pool, and where it's been through history? There's probably a ton in there, probably a ton of information that is worth knowing. History is awfully cool, a rich and vibrant panorama that can be viewed from any spot and examined in either direction. Your OWN history is like this. You should know your own story.

Some of your heritage may still be around, their panorama moving ever slower as they spool toward the end of their part of the story. Are they happy? Are they fulfilled? Have they imparted all they, and you, need? If they were to leave this life, if there be ghosts, would they be those quiet, happy types, or the sad angry ones that provide fodder for tour guides "crawling" the haunts of Bogart and his ilk? Time grows short for your living heritage, for them and for you.

If there be ghosts, might you be wise to learn their stories before they cross over?

I'll see you next week...

Bingo,

I've been reading your comments for a number of years now, and while admittedly the plurality of the time I've been in disagreement, your musings have always been entertaining, if nothing else.

I've lost a number of relatives recently, and my family's history has become increasingly important. Your observations hit me hard today.

What you are doing on this site, and in the world of CrossFit, don't allow it to die. I don't speak exclusively for myself when I say that I miss the 'Rest Day' information, perspective and debate; you continue the legacy, irregardless of outside influences.

Thank you.

Notes to self:

1) Don't drink a large amount of beer margaritas the day before such a workout.

2) Make sure to drink more than a cup of coffee before said exercises.

3) The mind is eminently powerful.

Had to cut this one short after half an hour. I wasn't even sure I'd make it that long, but it went better than expected. Still bad at running. Probably would have been able to do the squats unbroken if not for gasping for breath after the runs.

swapped 400 metre run for 500 metre row.

Improved time from 29:30

squats felt easier but dont know if thats because the row made it easier than the run did last time.

Holy crap. Worst part is, last nine squats made me think maybe I had a little too much gas left in the tank, could've pushed a little harder and rested less between sets. Cardio was limiting factor. Felt dizzy on one of the squat sets and ran pretty slow after first couple rounds.

Climbing the stairs up & down to the track sure wasnt pretty & definately added a few minutes to my time. Oh yeah that & the last 400 meters looking like a hobbles horse didn't help either. Dripping sweat, aching back (from the running), wobbly legs on the staris are nothing compared to what those who fight for us have to go through.

Great pic from Mt Spakonufell, but should have had Travis Manion's story.

800m run
29 b.s.
20 pull-ups
29 more b.s.

then 1 rd of the original (400m,29b.s.,20 pullups)

dont ask me why I added the additional 80 pull-ups. I just felt like it.

Really disapp, Esp w/pace of last 2 squat rounds. Broken to 10+10+9, 12+10+7. Unbr first 2 rounds. Mostly 16+13 in middle rounds. Breaks too long & pace of runs too slow at beg of each lap. Squats little easier w/high bar. Easier to take breaks w/weight on back. 3 deep breaths then do a rep on later reps each round.
